Fans of UND and USD were adamant that NDSU and SDSU were making a massive mistake and would never be relevant at the next level up. That is not entirely accurate. The UND fan base was very divided on this issue, but it really did not matter because Roger Thomas had already decided that it was a bad idea to move up to FCS. Many UND fans were upset, many agreed with Roger Thomas. I thought it was a mistake at the time, and history has shown that it did hurt UND not moving up sooner. I'm not sure what I think about the move to FBS because the cost is so great. I don't blame NDSU for moving up, and it was probably the right move for its program. I would like to see UND compete at the FBS level, but I do understand the financial concerns. I expect that UND will closely monitor SDSU, USD and the Montana schools before making the decision. I do believe that the landscape of college football is still evolving, and fully expect that there will be another "FCS" type division that will include the schools that are not in the Big 10 and SEC. 3 Quote

I should have been more precise with my words. There were UND fans that saw the move that NDSU made up to I-AA(at the time) and thought UND should make the move with them. There were plenty of others who ridiculed and said nearly the exact same things being said in this thread. "It's not a real step up in competition, current division is just fine and not being eroded away, NDSU will regret making this move etc" Regardless, the conversation in this thread is very similar to 2003-2004 and I'm just curious if history will repeat itself with NDSU leading the way(relative to it's historical peers) with the move and everyone else is critical while silently planning the same move. Moving from Division 2 to FCS was way easier and cheaper than moving from FCS to FBS, even if it is G6 and not P4. The only way I would support UND moving to G6 is if there is a G6 playoff tournament. Until then, it isn't worth the expense to settle for a crappy bowl game that nobody outside of the fans of the two teams playing cares about. 2 1 Quote

That seems more likely in the short term than this mythical second tier division that we’ve all been talking about for 15 years. Quote

Expanding the playoff to 24 would be stupid letting teams in that have no way of winning the title just puts the title game into February , probably rises a lot of money for the top teams tho ‘at least in basketball some lower teams have a chance to win a couple games 1 Quote

I've gone to many of our P4 games and have talked with many of their fans and everyone was interested in NDSU because of what they have heard. Most said they were going to sell their tickets for a FCS game but when they heard it was the Bison, they wanted to see what we were all about. You can believe what you want but the jealousy on this board is over the top. Quote

More games=More revenue The CFP has never been about the spirit of competition, I don’t see the member school turning down additional TV money from an expanded playoff field. Quote

Who knows how this all plays out, every school is doing their own analysis and making decisions on what they see as their best path to their goals. In my mind, jumping into the MW is logical. The teams who are leaving for the Pac12 were once a part of the MW, logic follows that may be an option for NDSU in the future if they continue to build and the FM area continues to grow. The FM area has had double digit growth for by decade for nearly it's entire existence. Will that continue? Who knows? I don't pretend to know what NDSU's long term goals are for the University or the Football team. But I do know that this step to FBS is a move that makes a lot of sense to me and could make even more sense as the landscape of college football continues to evolve. Can't make decisions about your future with today's landscape in mind. You're describing the status quo in 2026. I'm talking about a path forward that puts us in a spot where NDSU wants to be in 2050 and beyond. Quote

UND doesn’t get much football exposure , but with all the ndsu exposure why is their enrollment tanking now maybe go back to bisonville if you please Quote
