I agree basketball programs need more promotion and information coming into the fall. All other major sports are putting out information quite regularly in the off season.  I also would like to hear what the school is doing on improving facilities and funding for basketball. This could be sports that could grow very quickly in fan sports because basketball is very much big time sport followed nationally and to improve programs around only takes few players to turn around program. Look last spring when we made deep run in men’s Summit tournament how fan interest grew.  I believe that UND could easily become basketball school if I so chose to do so if resources were directed to these programs and for women’s program there is only one way for program to go now and that is up because we are near bottom now in women’s basketball rankings.

I do not know if Hutter is the right guy for this job but let's give him another year.  Here is a recent note from him.  The WBB Newsletter is attached below the message from Hutter.

****************

We have officially begun “Year Two” of our three-year plan to rebuild the Women’s Basketball program. We are excited about the progress we’ve made and are focused on taking another significant step forward — both on and off the court.

In “Year One,” our priority was to establish a strong foundation built on culture, family, and selflessness. I’m proud to say our team embraced this vision and made meaningful strides. We call our culture “Family First,” and our players truly lived that out this past year. The team:

  • Achieved a team GPA of 3.62
  • Completed over 350 hours of community service
  • Gave back locally by coaching youth teams, leading camps, and providing individual instruction
  • Actively participated in campus organizations such as Hawkademy, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student-athlete Advisory Committee, and other student groups

These accomplishments reflect a core belief in our program, “Person OVER Player.” The lessons our student-athletes gain here will stay with them long after their playing days are over. I’m incredibly proud of the culture we are building within our UND Women’s Basketball Family.

As we move into “Year Tw
o," our focus expands to enhancing our roster and elevating our on-court performance. We are committed to recruiting not just talented players, but exceptional people whose values align with ours.

To continue improving the student-athlete experience and to remain competitive within our league, we are working to strengthen several areas of our program. One priority is increasing support for the 701 Award, UND's name, image, and likeness (NIL) initiative.

The 701 Award helps us recruit and retain student-athletes who fit our culture and compete for championships. NIL support has become an essential part of building and sustaining a competitive program.

If you believe in what we're building, please consider making a gift to the 701 Award designated for Women's Basketball. Give online at pd.UNDalumni.org/give-701.

We are excited about where this program is headed and grateful you are part of our WBB Family. I hope you can catch a game this season.

Go Hawks,

Dennis Hutter
Head Coach

Sounds nice and I'm glad they're getting a positive vibe as a team, but at some point they are going to have to win games.

He should (and will) get at least three years to turn things around (or at least headed in the right direction).
