Thinking NC$$ will put us in SF with Duluth & Western in Loveland right.

Looks like there's a 21% chance UMD is in SF with us.
44% chance they end up #5 and get paired with WMU.
35% chance they end up #8 and get paired with Mich.

So if I am understanding this correctly, with perfect bracket integrity, UND's first round opponent will be either St. Thomas, UMass, UConn, or Augustana?

Could be Minnesota State as well.

Or BC.

Because they could steal the #15 pairwise spot, is that what you're saying?  Otherwise, they are not in the #15 column.

Could be Ohio St., Princeton, or Merrimack, for that matter then, too.

Not sure on this, but I think Mankato and BC only get in if they win their league, but if they do that they also move up to 13 or 14, so UND wouldn't play them in any event.

Or Bentley, if Harvard or Clarkson win their conferences.

The only integrity the committee cares about is 1 vs 16.

If the team we end up getting paired with is hovering around 20 in the NPI compared to the next team above being 14 in the NPI I would think they’re more likely to keep us paired. Should increase the odds of it at least

100%. No chance the committee does it differently, regardless of regional location.

Well we are locked into #2 ranking. Now just a question of who we play at #15. (Yes, it will be #15, and #1 will play #16) Also, means #7 will be in our regional, most likely Providence. I disagree with those who think the brackets will be rearranged for attendance and travel considerations. The committee should and will honor bracket/NPI rating integrity, otherwise why bother doing it.

Looks like we are very likely to be in Duluth’s bracket. God help our defensemen discover how to keep themselves between the puck carrier and the goal

I doubt it, unless they land at #7. But most likely they land at #5 or #6 and are out of the SF region.

From the NPI site:

The NPI, represented here, is the official system for selecting AND SEEDING teams for the NCAA Tournament.

UMD has zero chance of ending up 6th. If they beat Denver they will be #5, if they lose and Providence loses they will be #7 and if Providence wins they will likely be #8. So if we don't want them in our region they need to beat Denver

Right so we play 15 in Sioux Falls.  No brainer

Wrong. Providence isn't playing, they're done. UMD stays at #6 with a loss and moves to #5 with a win.

If you believe the NPI probability matrix, this is incorrect.  Duluth is 5 if they win, and 7 or 8 if they lose.  I don't know what results trigger the move between 7 and 8.

According to Prob Matrix, UMD can only finish 5, 7, or 8.

Okay, I was zeroed in on Providence, who still is most likely to land at #7 (over 50% chance). Denver is at 0.5% chance of #7 and UMD is at 23% chance of #7. Got it.

Slight chance of Dartmouth or Cornell at #7 too. We'll see what happens next weekend!

We need to hope one of the lower-ranked ECAC or Hockey East teams (Clarkson, Princeton, Harvard, Merrimack) pulls off an upset and wins their conference tournament. If one of them do, that should be our opponent in Sioux Falls.
