Pressure creating a TO 👀

Lol ya I mean should get a few steals but they aren't even a good team. Try this defense against a good team and would be down 25 by now. And can we stop bombing 3s? Nobody but Kraft at this point should be putting up a 3 in this game.

Our young guards show some promise offensively but are going to need a lot of work defensively.  We play matador defense on vertical penetration.  Defensively Eli can’t leave the floor or we are in trouble.  Shooting has been very poor but getting open looks.  Just not falling.  Shooting 36 percent. Jones has gone strong on the inside which is encouraging.  Kraft so far is the only one who has hit a 3.

The pressure is literally the main thing keeping us in the game 😂 doesn’t matter if it wouldn’t work against a good team because its working right now.

Idk if I totally agree with that. It's more that they just arent very good. And id say 3/4 of their points have been easy ones from breaking the pressure. But our rotation has definitely been better the 2nd half. But im still not sold on the defense working as we are still getting beat by a bad team.

Bigger concern is why Sather’s offense has 2 guys who cant shoot stand in the corner and not move for 25 seconds

Or maybe we should spend the entire next practice shooting freethrows.😬

Can we get the collective to donate some more shooting machines to the program

Smith is going to struggle with strength on d, but he has a wicked fast first step to the lane.  He has left people in the dust several times in the last couple of minutes.

I had an event tonight so watched it delayed. This is going to be a hard season to watch if the games continue to look like this. This is some very ugly basketball. Not D1 quality at all, both their skill level and decision making out there.

We could kill two birds with one stone if we collected more players who can shoot.

Obviously this team has shortcomings, and criticism is warranted, but with regard to last night's game, this has to be kept in mind (from Alex Faber's Herald article):

Quote

GRAND FORKS — Anthony Smith III felt terrible before Thursday night’s game at the Betty Engelstad Sioux center.

UND’s freshman guard, like most of his teammates, had spent the last 24 hours dealing with an illness ahead of the home opener against UC Riverside.

"All that’s happened within the last 24 hours health wise, I’ve got to give our guys credit, I thought they really battled," head coach Paul Sather said. "We had a lot of guys hooked up to IVs today, just trying to get some fluids, me included."

Marley Curtis was barely able to play, and of course Micah is still out. If nothing else, it's going to be interesting to watch the development of Uelmen, Smith and the Curtises over the course of the season.
