Some of these guys already have interest in UND, so I would be curious if the player Schlossman is referring to is someone who didn’t previously have interest in UND, or if getting Reschny and Verhoeff would be what tipped it in UND’s favor from someone who has us on their list.

He said that the player reached out to his agent within 2 hours of the news being broke on Friday. It’s also worth noting that he said the birth year of the player and DuPont is the year after the player he said. I do find it weird that Schloss has brought up DuPont a couple of times recently. He doesn’t name drop players too often that don’t want to come here.

Wonder if Bear stays in the WHL for a year to recover and finish those courses. Then goes NCAA for a year in 2026-27

That sounds like the plan. Not sure these guys understand how easy classes are. You pretty much just have to show up.

DuPont was at a camp here last year. There is mutual interest from both sides. Landing Verhoeff could seal the deal on him.

A lot of podcasts are interviewing these players, and frequently they are asked a variation of the question, "so, after the draft, obviously you want to move on to the NHL, but if that won't happen this year, do you think you go back to your junior team or do you go to the NCAA?"

For the most part you hear them say, a) they think they are ready for the NHL, and the NHL is the goal, and b) they will talk to the team that drafts them and listen to what they have to say about what is best for their development.

So, basically, NHL teams are going to decide whether these high end kids go to the NCAA, and if so, probably which school will be best for them.

It is going to be absolutely key that UND develop relationships that are positive with the NHL gm's and their staffs.

I should note, however, that I have also heard a few kids talk about their loyalty to their junior organization, and their dream of winning a Memorial Cup.  If it is left up to the kid, I don't think we can underestimate the possibility of that loyalty winning out over a chance to play against tougher competition in the NCAAs for some of these kids.

The other thing, and this is key for confidence and part of offensive development, a lot of forwards need to put up big point totals. Harder to do that in the NCAA as opposed to junior. A lot of guys will take the easier route, but route that will build confidence by seeing the puck go in the net and their production remain high.

Certain NHL teams, Boston specifically, love the NCAA route, and will steer their uncommitted drafted prospects to the NCAA route, while others will let the kids make their own educated decision, or even prefer keeping those guys in the CHL after get them signed to their ELC.

We will see what happens. I think Ben Kindel needs to go to the NCAA for a couple years instead of stat padding even more in the Dub for 2 more years. Just my opinion

I think it'll depend on what the trend is with 1st time eligible commits on August 1. If more of the 2009 born CHLers start committing on August 1 2025 and shortly after that, then teams will have more time to plan out/stagger their recruiting classes.

The current issue is that the new rules coming into effect last November is that you had all of the 2004 born overagers, 2005s, 2006s, 2007s, and 2008s in the entire CHL become NCAA eligible overnight. We knew that plenty of the 2004s would commit to CCHA/ECAC/Atlantic schools with a handful ending up in the NCHC/B1G/Hockey East, but we didn't know if/when 2005s, 2006s, 2007s, and 2008s would commit. Tons of 2005s have, and we've seen an increase in 2006s/2007s/2008s commit in recent months. But there are still plenty uncommitted, many of whom are 2025 Draft eligible and then a ton of em are 2026 Draft eligible.

Very intrigued to see how everyone in junior & NCAA hockey adapt.

Agreed.  Early committing chippas will be committing in concert with heading off to the CHL in August of their 16 year. The Wild West of this year will start to settle down.  There will be a market for overagers, but they will be depth players most likely.

didn't mean to single out your post and sound like a jerk.  nothing aimed at you. Just calling out the click hound vultures

Half of those prospects are already committed. Definitely a clickbait article

UND should be patient and get the best CHL forwards available after the stint Gordon pulled. No time to panic.

I bet UND lands one more serious CHL skill player, maybe two.

You want to make next year’s team as good as possible.

He seems pretty tight with Cooper Williams on social media as well…

I like it.
Having a top 5 draft player from both 2026 and 2027 on the roster would definitely put UND back on the map for future blue chippers.

Ben Kindel, Braeden Cootes, Cameron Schmidt, Lynden Lakovic, Roger McQueen (if healthy), Nathan Behm are in/around the Carter Bear tier of Dub forwards I'd like to add. But who knows how many of them want to play in the NCAA, they could just sign their ELCs after being drafted.

Complete the 25/26 roster with Kindel & McQueen, then add Bear next season 26/27.  There, that was easy.  ;)

It's reassuring knowing that Chyzyk has probably 10 different plans with even more contingencies going off those plans for the roster building, not only for 2025-26, but also for 2026-27. Felt like the last couple years that the staff did the bare minimum portal work and then called it a day in early summer. You already know Chyzyk will be at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in August to scout/recruit all of the uncommitted guys there.

Not as much glitz and glammer as some but maybe watch out for Owen Martin to be a target. Plays for Spokane of the WHL, from Oakbank, Manitoba. Ranked as a 3rd round pick by Scott Wheeler of The Athletic.

Wheeler on Martin:

“Martin was a steady riser this year for scouts despite missing a chunk of the year to a tendon injury from blocking a shot. He finished the season with 34 points in 39 regular-season games, playing 18-19 minutes per game on a deep Spokane team. He also had a really strong playoffs for them. Martin is a center with good outside speed and a very quick first few steps who took defenders wide consistently this season despite having a bit of a splay at his ankles. He plays with pace and hustle. He’s strong in the faceoff circle and contributed on both special teams, including a prominent role on Spokane’s penalty kill. He works hard, plays in the guts of the ice, is always scanning and reading/anticipating, stays around chances and the puck because of it, can play in give-and-gos and has enough secondary skill and good game smarts. He’s just a good, versatile player and gamer who plays between the dots and finds ways to influence a game.“

There is 152 CHL commitments:

WHL: 70

OHL: 49

QMJHL: 33

I haven't followed the CHL to this point in any way, shape, or form so I'm wondering if someone on here knows which of those 3 leagues is considered the strongest? Or if it changes each season? Anyone that's followed it over the years have any insight?

WHL > OHL > QMJHL
