The only place colder than an ODR in Grand Forks was playing indoors at the Bill Jerome in Devils Lake

Speaking of, it's the oldest indoor rink in the state with an opening year of 1935. They're doing some renovations to it currently which includes a neat touch of hanging all sorts of old hockey photos taken in the rink over the years all around the lobby. Photos from the DLHS varisty vs UND JV games in the 50s and 60s are some of the neater ones. Nice to see they're keeping it going. And yes, the tractor zam lives on as the corners are too sharp for a real zam to work which is why it has continued on despite zam upgrades at the other rink lol.

The Old Rink in Thief River is pretty darn cold as well.

Old rink in Roseau was pretty cold, then when you were defending the east net, they would open up the overhead door behind the goalie to freeze him even more.

Red Lake Falls was cold also, with uninsulated corrugated metal walls and roof that was about 18’ over the very hard ice. The metal walls and roof seemed to transfer the cold in.

No kidding one year I was in college on a Saturday you had a load of Red River guys playing a load of Central guys in an old school no coaches ODR game.  I believe it was the rink up north by the dike right by where the Simonsons skated for years.

The old Cardin Hunt really got cold when those 5:30 am practices popped up. Need a whistle flip it up off the ceiling. Kids nowadays don't get the joys of the locker rooms being in the firetrap upstairs with 6 foot ceilings and hallways that were about 4 feet wide.

The Lumberdome in Bottineau was not pleasant to play in. Not only ice cold but those boards did not move. Valley City is another one as I had practice and games there when I coached peewees and bantams. Awesome ice though all taken care of by parents

Langdon, they open the doors to freeze the ice after the tractor resurfaces the ice. Frost could be scraped of the glass.

Crosby was cold but those ranchers'/farmers' daughters though

Busy week for Devils Lake.  Had Central on Saturday, West Fargo tomorrow, at Red River on Thursday, and then makeup from mother nature with Sheyenne on Friday.

Believe they play all their EDC games before they get Mr. Nelson back.  They've been in every game minus the Central game since early January, but haven't been able to get over the top.  Tied 1-1 with Red River until the wheels fell off with about 10 minutes to go in that one.

At least they have Saturday to Monday to get some rest before getting Davies on Tuesday of next week followed by a trip to Grafton.

Dang I was hoping they would reschedule that postponed game out to that final week before EDC play-in games!

Who was the injured top 6 forward and when do they get him back?

Jr. Carson Hogness with a shoulder injury. He was a solid top 6 F last year and again this year. Smaller fast and disruptive forward that does a lot for them on PK and other playmaking off the scoresheet. He was back for the GFC game, but that apparently didn't help much haha. Hopefully he heals all the way up and starts burying the puck a bit more now like they need him to. I think they have 5-6 decent forwards by EDC standards, so losing 2 of them essentially took them from a 2 line team to a 1 line team. I think with Hogness back they at least have 2 decent lines again.

My predictions have been awful this season but I'm no quitter.

Minot over Jamestown 4-1

BHS over Hazen 6-0

Legacy over Bott 4-2

Williston over Dickinson 3-1

Wahp over Mayport 6-2

Central over North 7-1

Shanley over GPR 5-3

RR over Davies 6-3

DL over WF 4-2

Blue Jays have a chance to make the West a real toss up of who will end up on top when all is said and done. Minot took it to them up in Minot over a month ago. Jays did not play well. Looking forward to the rematch tonight at Wilson Arena
