Devils Lake has a FR goalie on their girls team who is also legit.  She's going to be an animal.  L/B put up 16 SOG in the first an 21 in the second and trailed 2-1 going into period 3.  25 SOG in period 3 and finally scored 3 times but it took a tip and plenty of net front traffic.

Forsberg is a character.  You've got to have some swagger when the deck is stacked against you the way it is.  He knows he has to play well or they won't win, simple as that.

DL vs RR could be a very interesting first round EDC matchup

Talk about a team on the edge.  Century with wins over Mandan in OT, Williston late, Dickinson in OT, and rallied late to beat Bottineau-Rugby after trailing 3-1 late today.

They won the games, but I'd put them on upset alert for WDA.

They've been missing an impact player for about 2 weeks now.  He should be set to return soon.  Regardless...seeds 2-6 in the West, on the right weekend....take your pick.  All about peaking at the right time.

Going to a fun last 2 weeks. Jays got @Century, Mandan and finish with @Bismarck

WF beat Jamestown 6-2.  The Jays were doing a good job on Mattern until about the ten minute mark of the second period and things fell apart a bit on them.  I thought their young goalie played pretty well given the quality of shots that WF had on them.  Mattern had 2 goals and 2 assists.

Good to hear Leif was good between the pipes. Had the pleasure to of coached him for 3 seasons. He had been sick for 2 weeks and just came back last week. Kid has no pulse. Nothing bothers him

Looks like Mattern is well on his way to shatter the highest goal total in the EDC in the past 20 years (45) and the total points in the EDC in the past 20 years (85).

I know DL does some goalie specialized training sessions for all ages , but there must be a lot more of it than I realize. It seems like the boys have an all-state goalie every 2-3 years and have the top goalie in the state every 5-6.

No clue on the all-time EDC record. The online stats only go back to 2004. But I believe the 99 point season by Peluso in his Jr season still stands as the most in a season in the state history, granted that was WDA and I'm just speaking EDC here for the Mattern stats. 

Historically the rough rule of thumb has been a 25% points adder for playing in the west. For instance, that historic season of Peluso getting 99 points would have been more like 74 points had he played it in the East.

Mattern is currently sitting at 71 points in 19 games, with 2 reg season games left to go. At his current pace (3.74 pts per game) he will end the regular season with around 78+.

He's guaranteed 2 games at EDC, likely 3, so assuming 3 games...that puts him around 90 points. If WF makes state and plays all 3 games, then he'd roughly finish with around 101 points which would beat the all-time record...and doing it in the EDC versus WDA to boot. Lots of ifs there, but technically he has a chance.

 

1. Needs to continue his pace every game

2. They need to make state, and win at least 1 of their first 2 games at state to ensure playing 3 games

 

If WF makes state, I think that alone makes the trip to watch state worthwhile.

He made one of the best saves I've ever seen in the third reaching behind him and keeping a puck out of the net after he got left hung out to dry.  Glad the Jamestown parents let him know it too.  

Hoping the Jays make the state tournament.  I'm told they'll get Walz back here soon.

He has a high ankle sprain so those can be a shirt time or a long time to heal. Hoping for the short time. I did see him at the rink before their Hazen game and he was walking without much of a limp
