been out of NoDak for awhile...what is team ND that competes to play for USA Hockey championships?  Who puts that together?

NDAHA puts together teams after tryouts.  They play Sioux Falls Power in best of three.  Winner heads to nationals.

Teams are divided equally with kids from the east and the west.

Equally is not accurate,

Equitably might be more acceptable way to describe

Interesting outcomes this year to say the least.  I think its safe to say that Central will end up at the state tournament, but after that its really up in the air in the EDC.  Out west I think I've seen enough to say that Minot, Century, and Legacy are locks to be there.  Century has played the EDC teams on their schedule tough.  OT with North, a 1 goal game (with EN) with WF, and beating Sheyenne.  The same could be said for Legacy in matchups with WF and North, and played Minot tough.  Could be a year with multiple west teams making it out of the QF at REA.  Been a few years since we've seen that.

Mandan and Jamestown will also be in the mix and if you catch Dickinson on the wrong day in a one and done format with Kadrmas in the net, watch out.

CHS-Legacy was a great game last night.  CHS controlled play for the most part, shots were lopsided.  Legacy did a good job of limiting high quality chances and hanging around after a terrible 1st period - or a great 1st period for CHS however you wanna say it.  CHS 2 goals, oddly enough, came at the end of PK when Legacy had forward as last man, and it ended up in the net both times.  Legacy had darn near a full 5x3 in the final half of the 3rd and CHS did a great job keeping them outside and limiting chances.  CHS has 3 guys that are tough match-ups and they made the difference.  Good crowd/atmosphere for a Bismarck game.

Minot on a mission to run the table in the west.  Legacy over Jamestown 6-2.  LHS broke a 2-2 tie with 6 seconds left in the 2nd and it went haywire from there.  Jamestown controlled plenty of the play and will definitely be a factor come WDA.

Surprise score was Davies over North 7-1.  Davies has got some swagger since they knocked off Red River.  Playing really well right now.

Sophomore goalie for the Jays is having troubles with his angles. Same problem he had on occasion when he was my bantam goalie last year. Started first 4 games playing really well. Hopefully he gets it figured out sooner than later

1 vote later.

     - Signed anyone facing Jtown in the WDA tourney.

Jamestown is a good team with potential and is going to cause fits to anyone this season, outside of Minot and Central and even then, chip chair chance.

Davies might be the only team left on Minot's regular season schedule that has a chance to hand them an L. CHS and Legacy likely have decent chances too but man alive Minot smoked CHS last night. Minot also has some swagger pouring

Having watched both, Davies will struggle to keep up with Minot, they don't match up well at all.

Century is done with Minot till potentially WDA, Legacy would have to play the perfect game to beat Minot, but with the game up in Minot.... going to find the ice a bit tilted as always up there, tough place to play. Can't give them a PP.

Minot is a wagon on a mission to do something special this season and they play like they want it... that's a dangerous team.

Probably going to want to switch WF and Davies on your list based on who all the have left to play. IMO

The absolute wildest stat in the WDA is that Minot hasn't hoisted the post season trophy since like 2006 - not sure on the exact year but it's somewhere around there.  Pretty mind blowing if you ask me.  WDA in Minot this year, they're gonna want it bad.  But as we see every year....there's a reason the games are played.

Sidebar: Red River comes to Legacy in a couple weeks for a rare, second half crossover.  Could be an interesting game.

Take a gander at the girls standings.  North is obviously at the top with 25 points.  Teams seeded 2 through 7 have 20, 19 or 18 points...all just a puck bounce away from each other in the standings.  Davies has 9, Willy has 9 and Dicky has 8 in the battle for the final spot.  Jamestown has 3 and DL has 1.  This is going to come down to the wire.

A lot of surprises to me with the girls this season, but the biggest so far is Minot.  The coaching staff has done a fantastic job with this team after losing their first 5 games of the season, they've won 6 straight and it should be 7 with Willy tonight and who knows Friday with North coming to town and Keneigh Fischer being gone with Team USA overseas.  Brynn Hanson (on of the best CC runners in Class B state history) has put herself on the map as a top 1-3 forward in the state and should be a D1 hockey player.

That is wild. I think you're right, the last time they won the WDA championship is when their current coach Jordan Wilert was playing which was either 2005 or 2006? They didnt even win the WDA in 2013 when they went on to win the state title...

2015 they won the state championship.  Fun fact, they finished 3rd in the WDA tournament that year.  They had to beat Jamestown on Saturday in Bismarck to even get there.  They also got an extremely good draw that year.  Devils Lake upset Red River in the EDC tournament, so Minot played them first round, then they played #4 EDC seed South/Shanley who was ahead in the third period before a kid took a 5 minute major and Minot scored twice on the major penalty.  In the championship they just withstood Central and got a fantastic goaltending performance to win 2-1.

As a Minot alum I've seen a lot of things that have went terribly wrong for the magi in their state tournament runs, but that year things just magically fell into place.  Was also the first year the state tournament was held at Scheels Arena.  I think that helped as well.
