I'm constantly told they don't have enough kids, yet their roster shows they have 43 this year lol. Not to mention another 20+ on the Junior gold team which probably equates to at least another handful that opted out due to knowing they wouldnt play varsity. I fully understand there's more to it than that, but it seems egregious when about 1/3 of their peers around the state make it work with those numbers. Tell me you know nothing about the Fargo programs without telling me you know nothing about the Fargo Programs... Quote

Fargo population 140k = 3 varsity teams ( 1 per 47k) 2012 Fargo population 100k = 4 varsity teams (1 per 25k) Bismarck population 75k = 3 varsity teams ( 1 per 25k) Grand Forks population 58k = 2 varsity teams ( 1 per 29k) Minot population 47k = 1 varsity team, soon to be 2 ( 1 per 24k) WF population 42k = 2 varsity teams (1 per 21k) Which one stands out? Fargo just needs to be honest and admit it's an unneeded co-op that's just about being competitive and not at all actually about the numbers. What's there to know about the Fargo program....the numbers are there. Quote
Johnny Five Posted December 12 Posted December 12 Population doesn't mean much to me. Girls hockey is as niche as it gets. I love it, but it's the honest truth. Like I mentioned above, all communities need to do a better job of recruiting girls to the sport. In order to determine the viability of 3 programs in Fargo, would have to look at the youth club 15u down to 10u, check addresses and and determine which pipeline/school hockey girls are filtered into. In a 3 year snapshot (think soph-senior, but have to look back to basically 12u levels), if there aren't 18 girls it's going to be tough to pull off. Some of those girls will quit. Some of those girls will move to other schools. Some of those girls will leave the state. Looks easy on the surface. There was A LOT of discussion in Bismarck on when, how and which schools to co-op. Club numbers as a ratio of population is also very interesting, or would be if such a table of info was compiled. Quote

Brim006 Posted December 12 Posted December 12 Sorry, yes I had changed the subject from girls hockey to boys hockey. FS/S in particular. Quote

BAA Fargo 2020 PWAA WF 2021 I don't see results from 2022 2023or 2024 so cant say how many for sure, BAA PWAA hasnt been around all that long in its current format, but never she aint, and in its formats now its not exactly a large pool of teams Always been a proponent that GF does it right tho, especially when they have done 2 top even teams at the PW level whether that's AA or A. I think this year's GF BAA team is something I'd make a point to go watch. Quote

That is hard for me to comprehend schools of that size needing a coop. Bismarck did the right thing for growing the girls game. Sure it's not without growing pains but it was right for the growth of hockey. Bismarck was just 10 years too late. Now it’s Fargo’s turn to stack some teams Quote
dustnyou Posted December 13 Posted December 13 I don’t know the numbers for this season or the last couple but when my son was playing NDHS in 2021 I don’t think South/Shanley had any players on their roster that went to school at South. If they did, maybe one or two. They were all Shanley students. Quote
Wilbur Posted December 13 Posted December 13 Very limited number of South kids on the South/Shanley team. Also very limited number of South girls on the North/South Coop. Not a ton of hockey players at South. 1 Quote

gfhockey Posted December 13 Posted December 13 Youth hockey worse on top of all that there is $1000 fee to play and then you have to sell raffle tickets and then you have to stay in a hotel room minimum five times per year times two nights Quote

You also have to consider youth travel starting at squirts in many places. Hotels, meals, fuel, association fees plus equipment. Z71 Suburban's ain't cheap either. Quote
