PCM
Joe LaPointe, a sportswriter for the New York Times, has written a story about Fighting Sioux hockey and the World Junior tournament called The Little Rink on the Prairie in North Dakota. und24
pretty nice article. Lets just hope our team can start dazzling as much as our arena
Let'sGoHawks!
I like the Times article much more than the Sports Illustrated article. Great piece.
Cratter
I didn't know "a top junior league has its headquarters here"?
choyt3
I didn't know "a top junior league has its headquarters here"? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's true.
PCM
It's true. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And it's the reason why Gino Gasparini still lives in Grand Forks.
ScottM
Not a bad piece at all. I would have liked if they had at least interviewed a Native American who was in favor of the name, but at least they didn't make the name/logo issue the center of the article. Marty
Not a bad piece at all. I would have liked if they had at least interviewed a Native American who was in favor of the name, but at least they didn't make the name/logo issue the center of the article. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The truth is that many Native Americans are for the logo. It is the WAY left (farther than Democrats) liberals that are against it. A great article though. I think this is what Ralph was invisioning when he built The Ralphm, national recognition of the school. I couldn't be prouder to be a Sioux fan. sioux rube
Great article. With the pros on strike and ESPN2 picking up some of the games, the RALPH should be well known throughout the country once the tourney is over.
JESUS,family, rutgers
Hello Sioux rube, I didn't know espn2 was going to televise college hockey. Any North Dakota games scheduled on it?
The Sicatoka
I think rube means World Junior Championships games.
sioux rube
I think rube means World Junior Championships games. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is correct.
Bacardio
Good article when talking about hockey.. Poor article that it showed only the "one-side" of both Ralph and the name-change issue and didn't even mention that some the the past Sioux players were/are part of the national Sioux Tribe. Hopefully, that will come out if they do put some of the games on ESPN2
Godsmack
I didn't care for the undertones pertaining to the nickname/logo. They grossly overscore the negative sentiment while failing to present opinions of others (including Native Americans) who happen to understand and like the name/logo. Tommiejo
I have just finishing reading the article & the article is "REALLY AWESOME." If you ask me the New York Times did a much greater job on the Ralph than SI will EVER do BAR NONE. SIOUX FAN SINCE 1973
Cratter
And it's the reason why Gino Gasparini still lives in Grand Forks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hey thanks, I didn't realize, that is pretty cool, and I also didn't know Gino still lived in GF. Thanks, I just got the message....haha I must have skipped over it reading it earlier, didn't realize until now searching for my own previous posts. As for the Undertones its getting the whole story, which NY Times does a good job of. If you left out the fact that the benefactor left out that he was an avid supporter of the name and wrote a letter to Kupchella stating he'll "take (his) lumps and walk away", you'd be missing a huge part, along with the "Nazi Parties." The average reader should know that and it adds a lot of the understanding of the situation.
