SWSiouxMN
Despite a better defensive performance in the 2nd half and crashing the offensive boards, a 5 minute drought at the end of the first half cost UND a win against the hated Yotes and they fell to 0-4. No rest of the weary, as they continue their now 2 game homestand (the UST game has been PPD due to COVID in the UST program). About Western Illinois. Last year, Western Illinois started to show some life in the 2nd half of the conference season. After splitting against North Dakota (and honestly should have won both games), WIU won 4 out of their last 6 to finish the season before getting bounced in the Summit Quarterfinals. Needless to say, there was much to look forward to Year 2 under Jeter. If you look at their non-conference, they got off to a blistering start, taking down Nebraska to start the season and roaring to a 9-2 non-conference start. Their two losses were a combined 8 points. Many felt that Western was ready to challenge the top 3 for Summit Supremacy. Then the conference season started, and Western got a reality check. They escaped for a win against Denver on the road, but since then haven't gotten back into the win column. They dropped a game against Omaha, then got hammered against St. Thomas. They almost pulled off a win at home against ORU, but starting off the conference season 1-3 was not what they had in mind with the awesome non-conference season. It isn't the end of the world, compared to where they were before Jeter is a night and day difference. Plus, there is still plenty of time to turn things around. About Rob Jeter (201-191 overall record, 17-21 at Western, 6-12 Summit) The former Milwaukee coach has certain made good progress in rebuilding the Leatherneck program. They are no longer the doormat of the conference they once were and certainly look to have a bright future. However, there are still some growing pains to get to where they need to go but Jeter has them heading in the right direction. Key Player: Will Carius III (6'7 Senior) The D3 transfer from a year ago, when this get gets it going, look out. He can get hot from downtown. He certainly has improved his scoring numbers from last year and is hitting 42% of his shots from downtown. UND had to deal with one of his hot streaks last year. Given the thinness of the forwards for UND, he might be due for a big night. Series History: Series History: UND leads the all time series 7-4, including a 5-1 mark in the Summit. Other Games: NDSU/UST is off due to COVID issues for UST SDSU (4-0) @ Omaha (2-3): SDSU smashed USD in their only game of the weekend, while Omaha got a win over UND and nearly another against NDSU. Was it the jump start that the Mavs program needed? Tough road against SDSU, who might be having the next big star in their program developing in Zeke Mayo, who might give Bruns a run for his money for Summit Freshman POY. USD (1-3) @ Denver (2-3): Both teams took down UND in the past few days. This might be an important game for both squads. Denver could get to .500 and have important wins at home against UND and USD. The Yotes could use this road trip to jump start their season. Something has to give. Keys: 1) Build off of the defensive performance against USD. 2) Slow down the guards 3) Get someone outside of Bruns going. The Call: Western continues to trend in the right direction, while UND is still dealing with injuries. With the status of Nero unknowned and a less than 100% Sueker, UND has a tough row to hoe. If they can hit their shots and play the defense they did against USD in the 2nd half, they can win this game. However, while I think they will battle hard, they won't have an answer for Carius. WIU 84-73 The game is on the Plus and Midco.

No one "hoes a road". A literal tough row to hoe might be one that is long or that involves hoeing dirt with lots of rocks or roots - the figurative version was what you were shooting at. Not being a jerk or anal-retentive grammar nazi - just trying to help you be a better writer. It's still important in this world. You know UND sports - proper writing is your best way to convey it. Just trying to help.
