SiouxMeNow
Maybe I'm out of my element here, but what the Hell is a Grundelwart and/or Stingring??? the result of a couple TOO many barley pops! redwing77
Dakota Devil Dogs but I also like the Norsemen or even just the Vikings Nope. Devil anything won't work in ND. The Devils Lake community will make you change the name to the Dakota Fighting Donuts or the Saints or something like that. (Reference: DL's high school mascot) Seriously though, why are we considering this? There isn't the need for a pro team here. No market really. MafiaMan
Even thought it's a blatant rip-off of the Brandon Wheat Kings, I must admit, the Dakota Sugar Kings does have a nice ring to it.
dakotadan
I have to say that I like GreenBayGuy's idea of Dakota Flood. I also like MafiaMan's Norskies. That is a name some of us had talked about in 2000 when the big sioux issue was going on. Go with a scandinavian/viking theme. And I am 100% norwegian and I will be the first to testify that I will not be insulted.
soSIOUXme
I like Bubz idea -- Dakota BlackIce with a nasty looking black icicle logo Dangerous, Can't see it till you hit it or in this case it hits you!
bigmrg74
the result of a couple TOO many barley pops! Signed, The Voice of Experience That didn't answer my question, and google turned up nothing for it, not even some goofyassed page thats all in norwegian or something else that I can't read. choyt3
Seriously though, why are we considering this? There isn't the need for a pro team here. No market really. If North Dakota ever had a professional hockey team what do you think their name would be? I'm doing a project for my senior portfolio and part of my project is to design a new logo, t-shirts, ticket-stubs, etc... fir the team name. Any ideas? No Native American names please. The Sicatoka
What would one call a North Dakota professional hockey team? How about "Stanley Cup Champions"?
morley
How about the: Dakota Prairie Dogs?? ND Flickers Dakota Prairie Fires Dakota Glaciers Since everyone thinks we are part of Canada, Dakota Canucks Dakota Canadians would work better if these two teams didn't exist already Think we could Deano back to be its Head Coach?? dakotadan
I have to say that I love the prarie dogs. It is a north dakota version of the gophers. I should love the GOPHER idea considering that it was my high school mascot, Grenora Gophers (ND). But prarie dogs is an origional idea that fits ND perfect. I say either Norskies or Prarie Dogs!!!! Those would by my two choices if UND was going to change it's nickname. If it was going towards UND I would have to say Norskies! 1.UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA FIGHTING NORSKIES!!!!!!!!!! 2. UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA PRARIE DOGS! there are alot of logos that would work with that.
Jordan_Parise_FREAK!
I like Bubz idea -- Dakota BlackIce That does sound pretty good, actually. Or I like the idea of North Dakota Chill.
siouxfan1
I think the team would be or should be named, Icebergs!! With a logo of a Iceberg on the Jersey! Just a thought! Go Sioux!!!
jerseychaser1
We don't really have any ice bergs in North Dakota. Just during the winter time when the snow plows like to make huge piles of snow somewhere in a huge parking lot.
BinaIsGod
How about the North Dakota Zephyrs...I've always thought that would be a great name for a hockey team. It plays on our propensity for a lot of wind here...and shows a fluidity, a smooth flow on the ice.
BigGame
Dakota Dirty Snow Piles - We seem to have a lot of those around in the winter or maybe the Dakota Blizzard, Dakota Chill, Dakota Pike, Dakota Tractors
Blackheart
Here's a couple.... 1) ND Conservative Scandinavians 2) Snerts 3) Flatlanders 4) Frozen Tundra 5) Shelter Belters 6) North Stars (sounds familiar?) 7) Giant Fiascos....it really couldn't work, could it? I'm a native North Dakotan trapped in hockey wasteland (Twin Cities) so please have mercy on me!!
dakotadan
How about the North Dakota Zephyrs...I've always thought that would be a great name for a hockey team. It plays on our propensity for a lot of wind here...and shows a fluidity, a smooth flow on the ice. My home town is Zahl, ND. Back when it had a school its mascot was the zephyrs. By the way, ND has a professional hockey team. It is called the North Dakota Fighting Sioux. Oh wait, I think that is SUPPOSED to be a college team. MafiaMan
Wow. I thought I knew of all the small-town NoDak schools, but I'll admit...I'm looking up Zahl right now on www.mapquest.com. North of Williston....hmnnn...you must be familiar with the Epping Eagles, then, dakotaboy? Aren't they North Dakota's Hoosiers? How about the Dakota Nimrods? Oh wait...that one's already taken. sprig
My home town is Zahl, ND. Back when it had a school its mascot was the zephyrs. Lake Zahl National Wildlife Refuge, right next to Zahl.
