jerseychaser1 Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 If North Dakota ever had a professional hockey team what do you think their name would be? I'm doing a project for my senior portfolio and part of my project is to design a new logo, t-shirts, ticket-stubs, etc... fir the team name. Any ideas? No Native American names please. Quote
Wilbur Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 If North Dakota had a professional hockey team.....they'd be in a lock out...... Quote
bigmrg74 Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 *like you know this wasn't going to open you up to abuse??* here's a few Ideas.... North Dakota Flyovers. North Dakota Farmboys. North Dakota Border Patrol. --works better closer to Canada eh?? North Dakota Squares. North Dakota Tractors. North Dakota Trappers. --eh, nobody loves the Trap. North Dakota Hippies. North Dakota Amish. *could have been meaner, but I'll hold off on those ideas. Gotta adgitate a little.... * Also, you may want to only go with Dakota (-------) as that would also give you a chance to increase your viewing market to South Dakota as well. Could even work out a deal to play a few Home games there somewhere. Quote
SiouxTupa Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Brace yourself for the... North Dakota Blowing Wind!! Strikes fear in your heart doesn't it! Quote
skateshattrick Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 *could have been meaner, but I'll hold off on those ideas. Gotta adgitate a little.... * Perhaps you should learn how to spell before you make fun of North Dakota. "Adgitate" is not a word, even in your kindergarten class. Quote
MafiaMan Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Given the current state of expansion nicknames of the past few years (Minnesota Wild, Tampa Bay Lightning, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, etc.), I can only imagine the possibilities: North Dakota Freeze North Dakota Blizzard North Dakota Chill North Dakota Polar Bears North Dakota IceMen My broomball team is the IceHoggs...how about the IceCows? Quote
bigmrg74 Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Perhaps you should learn how to spell before you make fun of North Dakota. "Adgitate" is not a word, even in your kindergarten class. I was to tired and lazy last night to use spellchecker. So sue me!! North Dakota (Planes, Plains) -either as an airplane or the Great Plains. North Dakota Tundra. North Dakota Yeti. North Dakota Snowman. -Abominal or Frosty North Dakota Monsters. - I want a five percent ownership if you use that one!! North Dakota Forkers. - Can't say you wouldn't laugh at their tagline, "Go Fork somebody!" North Dakota Nimrods. -as like those ESPN commersals. North Dakota Bubble Boys. Quote
jerseychaser1 Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 Mafia Man, I was actually thinking about using North Dakota Blizzard, or Snowstorms. Or else you could replace it with the Dakota Snowstorms. That might sound cool. Quote

MafiaMan Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 bigmrg74, Sorry, but there might be a copyright on the Watersmeet Nimrods. That's not just an imaginary ESPN commercial...the town and name are located in Michigan's upper peninsula. North Dakota Arctic Blast? North Dakota Pioneers (uh oh...politically incorrect...survey says...XXX)? North Dakota Wind Chill? The trend in minor league sports is to combine names like the already-mentioned IceHoggs, IceDogs, IceHounds, etc. IceNorskies? I like it! Quote
jloos Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Nimrod Michigan? What about Nimrod MN. Quote
MafiaMan Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 That's pretty funny. The Nimrod Nimrods? I like it! Looks like Watersmeet, MI, is a straight shot east of GF on US Highway 2. Watersmeet, MI Quote
MafiaMan Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 By the way...an interesting site explaining the name and also 1986's ESPN's top nicknames. Personally, I think the Belfield Bantams should be on there, but that's just my opinion. Ishpeming Hematites is a good one, too. A town's sports teams named after a rock. What is a Nimrod and ESPN Top Ten List Quote
Fetch Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Mallards Minot's not using it anymore are they ? Quote
MafiaMan Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Jerseychaser, If you were going with Snowstorms, I might suggest using Snowstorm without the "s" at the end. Continuing my trend of joining up two separate words, I think something like the Dakota IceDucks wouldn't be bad. Quote
Godsmack Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 How about: The Dakota Grundelwarts The Dakota Stingrings Quote
bigmrg74 Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 How about: The Dakota Grundelwarts The Dakota Stingrings Maybe I'm out of my element here, but what the Hell is a Grundelwart and/or Stingring??? Quote
Jordan_Parise_FREAK! Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 The "North Dakota Blizzards" sounds good....reminds me of Dairy Queen. Quote
Goon Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 Mallards Minot's not using it anymore are they ? I was thinking maybe even Honkers or Slough Rats. Quote
Bubz Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 The name for my Fantasy hockey team the last few years: Dakota Norsemen I know its lame, so here's a few other sad ones: Wheatkings Chill Drift Blackice Northern Lights So Cans (southern Canada) Bad Landers Quote
