sprig
Kozek scores one in Surrey's 3-2 loss to Vernon, Watkins not in the Vernon scoring. Surrey leads series 2-1. Watkins is interviewed on "this week in the BCHL with Bernie". Super acceleration and speed. Wow! This week in the BCHL
Bubz
Although Mario has been scoreless the first round of the Clark Cup play-offs, the #4 Storm advance after beating #1 Omaha 3 games to 2. Neither team won a home game in this series. Lammy finished the round with 0g, 0a, 12pim, and +2 On to Sioux City for round 2 starting Tuesday the 13th. This week in the BCHL <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This interview is kindof old as it was more than likely filmed before he had committed to UND. The one with Kozek in it talks about UND. Also, Kozek gets a passing mention in another interview with Mike-Lee K(something) who is a goaltender that is heading to MTU. He makes a point of watching how Kozek plays. Having goaltenders study you, even in juniors, is a good thing.
sprig
Kozek 1-1-2 in Surrey's Friday night win, 4-3 in OT (Watkins didn't score for Vernon). Surrey leads series 3-1, one more win and they are one of the 5 teams in the RBC, which will be played in Weyburn, Sask this year. That's just 45 miles north of the ND border (in western ND). Wonder if the Sioux coaches will be on hand recruiting? You can follow the RBC (May 7-15) here. Championship on May 15 (6:30CDT) will be shown on TSN, if anyone gets it. Watkins assisted on Vernon's loan goal. Surrey is on its way to the RBC in Weyburn. Kozek finishes second in post season BCHL scoring and first in goals scored with 16. Duncan ended up number 4 in scoring although with many fewer games played. National Canadian rankings have Fort William as #1 (part of a 5 team northern Ontario league, the SIJHL), followed by 4 OPJHL teams. The highest rated BCHL team is Nainamo at 6, Vernon at 10, and the winner Surrey is at #30. Final scoring leaders, BCHL playoffs
jk
To clarify, Surrey has to beat the AJHL champion to qualify for the Royal Bank Cup. Surrey just won the Fred Page Cup as the BCHL champion. This is from the BCHL site: "The Eagles will now host the winner of the AJHL Champions in the best of 7 Doyle Cup Championship beginning Friday night in Surrey. Games 1 and 2 will go Friday and Saturday - a 3rd game would be played in Surrey Sunday if the teams split the first 2 games." I ripped this off (excuse me, borrowed this) from a message board post on HF. I can't vouch for its accuracy, but it at least is presented nicely: ------------------------------------------------ 2004/05 RBC Royal Bank Cup CJAHL & Hockey Canada Jr.A National Championship Weyburn, Saskatchewan Teams Host - Weyburn Red Wings (SJHL) Pacific - Surrey / Camrose / Ft.McMurray West - Yorkton / Battlefords / Portage Central - North Bay / Northern Michigan / Ft.William / St.Mike's / Georgetown Atlantic - Nepean / Hawkesbury / Vaudreuil / St.Jerome / Truro / Yarmouth Schedule (All Games at Weyburn Colosseum) (All Times Central) Sat. May 7 WEST vs. Weyburn - 7:30pm Sun. May 8 PACIFIC vs. ATLANTIC - 2:00pm Weyburn vs. CENTRAL - 7:30pm Mon. May 9 PACIFIC vs. WEST - 2:00pm CENTRAL vs. ATLANTIC - 7:30pm Tue. May 10 Weyburn vs. PACIFIC - 7:30pm Wed. May 11 WEST vs. CENTRAL - 2:00pm ATLANTIC vs. Weyburn - 7:30pm Thu. May 12 CENTRAL vs. PACIFIC - 2:00pm ATLANTIC vs. WEST - 7:30pm Sat. May 14 Semi-Final - 2:00pm Semi-Final - 7:30pm Sun. May 15 RBC Royal Bank Cup Final - Time TBA Live on TSN ------------------------------------------ One crazy thing about the Vernon/Surrey series that just finished was Surrey's goalie situation. Prelude: Vernon won its preceding playoff round by defeating Prince George and its goalie, Michael-Lee Teslak. Now, the crazy part: One of Surrey's two goalies was hurt in its preceding series. Then, early in the Vernon series, a Vernon player ran Surrey's second goalie, injuring him. Surrey was then allowed by a Canadian hockey rule to add any goalie from another BCHL team, so long as that team was already eliminated from the playoffs. So they called up Teslak and asked if he'd like another shot at Vernon. He played in the last three games of the series and exacted his revenge on Vernon just a week after having his season ended (!?) by them. #1siouxfan22
I borrowed this from GPL. It's te ratings for the local players from last years select 16 festival. Mario was 16 and that Volpei from shattuck who has been talked about on here was 35th. Another opinion on Brian Volpei. USHR rated him as the 35th best forward at last summers Select 16 festival. BinaIsGod
I don't know if this is relavant to Sioux recruits, but a couple local boys (namely Jordan McIntyre and Josh Stengl) won the MJHL championship with Portage the other day. jk
Looks like Surrey will be facing Camrose from the AJHL for the right to advance to the RBC. Camrose has on its team a future Michigan forward, two future UMD Bulldogs, and a future DU defenseman.

Couldn't remember from last year which provincial juniors played off against each other to earn the Pacific, West, Central, and Atlantic slots in the RBC. Assume Sask vs Manitoba for the West slot, Surrey vs. Camrose for the Pacific? Let's go, Surrey, would like to see Kozek in Weyburn.

Just take the Perimeter Highway West around the south end of Winnipeg and Portage is just over a half hour drive once you pick up the Trans-Canada. sprig
Kozek scored once in each of the first two Doyle Cup games vs Camrose. The teams split the games, and will play the third of the series tonight in Surrey, then move to Camrose for the remainder of the series. Kozek remains on top in playoff goal scoring, tied with teammate Girling for total points, while both trail teammate Mullock who has the point lead in the playoffs.
