  1. 1. Now that UND has voted on and approved a new Hawk Mascot, it is time to name the Hawk.

What other submissions? SME Did the one 30 mins before the deadline, ... like a freshman doing their 1st term paper.

UND's Fighting Hawks athletic logo design is down to two options, and it's unknown to the public what they look like.

Interim President Ed Schafer said seven or eight semi-final concepts have been narrowed to two after several recent focus groups. The next step is deciding the appropriate time to release the final logo.

I am sure a lot of people would be curious on the other submissions by SME.

Holy cow if we could get our hands on those other concepts, we would have enough to bitch about right through the summer and thebpost counts could carry the board right back into hockey season.

I would think that the concepts would be protected due to some type of trade secret, They could potentially be used for diffefent clients.... lots of opportunity in the "Hawk" marketplace.

No one else had a say on the logo, SME came out with 3 logos which no one else saw and Ed picked which one “he” liked best.

Your second post literally contradicts your first post. Yes, the absolute final say was Ed's, however there was input on the design and narrowing it down, along with opinions given on the final decision from people besides him.

But there was no public input on the logo. They had focus groups to narrow it down, who were these people in the group and what were the other choices. The only part of the process without a vote of at least the students, seems to be the biggest criticism.

I see this point and its a fair criticism, the process was a circus but having one part of it not as open as the others does seem to not fit.

I do think SME proprietary information on the other logo types has something of a part in it.

i.e. the next time someone needs a bird-related logo they can dig one of those out of the hopper and tweak it.
