BigGame Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 Does anyone else have current favorites? Only including people that are on the team now??? Caleb Johnson, because the way he plays the game. Quote
CoteauRinkRat Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 Does anyone else have current favorites? Only including people that are on the team now??? Digger Not a lot of players who can play with that type of intensity at that high level of skill every game. Quote
siouxjoy Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 I have to vote for Digger, too, as my favorite (gotta love Sioux linebackers), but I definitely want to mention David Wisthoff. He has been a key contributor each season, with not a whole lot of glory. I also heard a rumor that he was a walk-on. Great job, David! Quote

I am pretty sure he was an invited walk-on which is a little different then being a true walk on. He was recruited but they gave scholarship money to another fullback coming in or they just didn't have any money allocated for the fullback position that year. In any case, I am sure he didn't have to try out for the team. Quote
NuSu Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 I hope that a few of the more mature readers remember an athlete my the name of Dave "Butch" Lince. If my memory is correct; last football player in NCC to play both ways ( great picture of him waiting on Dakota field for his teammates - in Forum), on same basketball team as Phil Jackson, may have lettered in both track and baseball. All when freshmen could not play. I was told that the "Sioux Ill." had a nice bit on him and Jim Hester. I think Lince was from Mott, ND and Hester from Davenport, Iowa. Not many had the number of "letters" in three years as Butch. And then played in the NFL for 3/5 yrs?? It was sad to hear of his passing to cancer this past year. I would hope that those that remember - would nominate him to the "Hall of Fame" or for something special! Quote

I thought invited walk-ons still had to do some conditioning tests as a part of the weekend (unless I am thinking of a different invited walk-on process). Either way, he worked dang hard his freshman season for not having any money. Quote
siouxyeahyeah Posted May 6, 2004 Posted May 6, 2004 I wouldn't consider him my "favorite" but who doesn't love Babington-Johnson? I mean, the kid dances while the band plays prior to face offs, he dances on the sidelines, he dances everywhere. He gets really pumped up really quickly. It pays off, too. That kid sheds blockers like no one's business. Just really a fun guy to watch. Quote

sioux7 Posted May 6, 2004 Posted May 6, 2004 Uh, sioux7, I believe that Vito Perrone was the dean of the (at the time) Center for Teaching and Learning (college of education) in the 1970's. My recollection is that Dr. Perrone was not a real football fan and spent most of his time writng articles for scholarly journals theorizing about how schools should operate more like permissive families and that children should be allowed to "discover" the truths in life rather than being taught them. If my aging and failing memory serves me, I think that he went from UND to one of the Ivy League schools (not in a football capacity) - Princeton seems to come to mind. True, there was a Vito Perrone Sr. He move on along with his family to beome dean of students at Harvard. Vito Jr. was on the football team I think 76' or 77. He might have been a wrestler for the Sioux as well since Vito Sr. was an All-American at Michigan. Quote
Wilbur Posted May 10, 2004 Posted May 10, 2004 Current: Digger Former: Juhaz, and I gotta give Dan Graff some love too. Quote
siouxoutlaw Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 Past, Present, and Future I would have to say the General....... Dale Lennon. If I am not mistaken he scored a TD on his last college carry, as a coach at UND he took RTs foundation to the next level (NCC 99, 01, 03, DII 2001), and the future....... Time will tell but looks very bright..... Current player would have to be Adam Roland. The kid is a hard nose get-er-done tailback. I am glad to see he is on the poster this year. Does anyone know where a guy could get some copies of the '04 posters??? Quote
Billy the Kid Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 I think that Tyler Storhaug hasnt got the chance to prove himself at Center. He will be one of the most dominant centers in the league this year, not only does he dominate at that but he also dominates the Buffet line and basketball game at Happy Joe's. Quote
sucka Posted August 2, 2004 Posted August 2, 2004 Thomas Loegering and Alec van Dyke are my favorites. I have talked to their teammates and I have been hearing that they are making major progress this summer. Move over Caleb and Dan, these two are for real and they are here to stay. Quote
Mr. Blanston Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 Kelly Howe. I still remember his one-handed interception in the end zone against the Bison at Memorial Stadium, it was priceless. Quote
Ba Ba Canoosh Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 Vito Perrone. I believe he played in the early to mid 70's. Vito Perrone - what a great gangsta name! He must of stepped on a few bison turds. Quote
BisonSuck Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 Remember Jimmy K. in 1998 in the Fargodome.... when he burned the bison D-backs like they were standing still. We always knew he was a great football player.... that prooved him as an outstanding athelete! Quote
