  1. QUOTE(iramurphy @ Sep 27 2006, 11:55 AM) QUOTE(UND92,96 @ Sep 27 2006, 10:05 AM) Press release for the UND-Augie game. Looking at the depth chart, I'm assuming it's just a matter of nobody bothering to update it since last week. Is it really possible that Strouth is still ahead of Chappell given the huge disparity between their numbers so far this year? Yup and I like it. He is a senior (Jr. cuz of Medical hardship) and Chapell will likely get the same reps. Smart move for the program. The message is that if you put in your time you will be rewarded. I would also get Tom Loegering on the field for the same reason. Over the years we have lost too many kids who hang it up after a year, two or three because they don't get any playing time and don't think hanging in there until they are seniors will make a difference.. When those kids quit it hurts your depth and it eventually hurts your recruiting. These guys also tend to have leadership skills and can be valuable in bringing along your younger stars. I like what Dale is doing. At some point in time Chapell will start. Don't know if it will be this year, but Strouth has been a very good RB and worked his butt off to return from his injury. Chapell may get more carries in any given game but it won't matter who starts. I don't necessarily want to bury Strouth on the depth chart, but I really have to question whether he's healthy. Through four games, his per carry average is roughly half of his career average. I could dismiss it after a game or two, but we're now nearly halfway through the regular season. The line seems to be opening holes for Chappell, which would seem to suggest that perhaps the problem lies with Strouth having lost a step or two since his surgery? DO you not remember the catch and run against northen iowa that helped us win the game... Strouth is a major piece to this program...case closed
  2. I definately feel Manke will be the guy that gets us over the hump. SOme players have game speed, which I feel he has, and his insticts and poise should make him the perfect field general that we need. Not to mention I would rather have him go for the gritty yards on 4th and 1 as oppose to Belmore....
  3. I too heard that ZBJ will be returning. I believe I saw him around the banquet weekend at the Holiday Inn. I believe someone told me he needed to take care of some grades and some personal things.....I do hope he returns...Zekes that have had good early careers end up having superb senior seasons...for example...Schmidt, Hermes, and Dahlen......
  4. Alright, i just got confirmation that it is true...those players did return and ZBJ did leave. WHy? Was he dismissed, or was this something that had to happen?
  5. I know that I heard that Andy Hoffelt, and Rick Presthus are back with the team this spring....are there any others that have also returned?? I also believe I heard that ZBJ is not returning for his senior season, but I assume this is a mistake. If any one knows anything for sure about these 3 please respond, and even any new information on players returning
  6. Here is my bet...Grand Valley gets the s^it kicked out of them the next times they play UND in any sport
  7. I am definately happy for Tim, he truly is a classy guy and will be missed around these parts. Im sure this job not only brought warm weather, but a doubling of salary right around christmas for a newly wed........sounds good to me. I dont know if I would be worried about Mussman leaving, after our offensive output Im not sure he could even get the job he feels he wants/deserves at this point, probably after next year for sure though, if the offense is productive, and probably by another team trying to move into the conference or a team already in the conference.
  8. I feel the sioux had a chance, we just looked exhausted on defense. Obdviously the turnovers on our end of the field hurt us. How long have we been talking about Belmore needing to get benched in favor of Manke. Ithink the point is mute by now. And the playcalling and clock management is on the coaches. But Im sure this will all get taken care of, because if we see it, Im more then positive the coaches see it, and no one is trying to end the season anytime soon.
  9. First of all I think dressler has a better return team then lueck had, mainly because its basically the same players, they are just older. And Im glad someone finally asked about the return team, watch the punt returns and tell me if Dressler is doing it by his self. As far as the game goes, I think UND will come out fired up, the real question is how long SCSU fights, becuase it gets lonely in the alerus, when your getting beat, and its loud. I hope and I mean hope that its a good game (though to me good game is what weve had in the first half of last week)
  10. Does anyone know the schedule for next year. Dates, teams we play, in order, and where they are played? I thought I heard we might be playing Winona, and I can assume Duluth, Mankato, South Dakota, Ferris State on the road. At home were playing UNO, SCSU, Auggie. Other then that should be fun. but anyone with schedule information would be helpfull.
  11. The rb is Anthony Longe. And for the record he played a ton of rb in highschool. He has excellent quickness, and a low center of gravity. I dont know where they are gunna play him, but the minute he gets the ball everyone will feel that he should have the ball all the time. Kick-Return and Punt Return are his I promise, and dressler is good, but this guy looks special. Just swing by a practice and watch. The reciever is Martin Tatum I believe. I havent got to see him catch balls, but he does have good speed, and great size.
  12. Well this looks to be a good game. I think the key this week will be making Grand Valley Pass. There quarterback is a good runner from what I have heard, (same guy from last year) and Tennesse is a very capable runner. Neither are great, and this will be a defensive matchup. I think the key will be to score on defense. Lets not count on the offense. On the other side, our offense which has been running the ball great, and hitting the FB, and TE, should put up 14 at least. I like Bowenkamp with some strength in his arm, he is much more relaxed in the pocket, and looks off recievers, Im excited now that we will be unstoppable. Special Teams, is gunna be the biggest piece Jeff should be the touchback king in the alerus, so field position will never come past the 25 all day on KO. Kick Return will start at least on the 30. Punt Return will block one, and return one ....We were close last week doing both again And Punt....is amazing and I expect grand valley pinned deep everytime I predict a close game up until about 9 minutes left in the forth. UND 31- GVSU 6.
  13. Great point, and I was just about to say I forgot to say wistoff. I am not clear, but how does the all-conference selection go anyway. Who nominates who, who votes, etc.
  14. I was very happy with most of the all-conference selections. Chris Kupers was a no brainer, along with the most valuable lineman. Gagners as well. I would have liked to see maybe another reciever at honorable mention. And I thought Ullspberger, Nordiq, Babington-Johnson, and Hoffschneider would have gotten at least honorable mention, or one of them at least. Every year though I guess folks get left out, but I thought they deserved it. Especially Nordiq, being a senior, Ullspberger, for tons of plays, Hoffschneider for much improved play. But I guess next year.
  15. I couldnt agree more. Our recievers made amazing catches yesterday....on screens..Its gut wrenching..I called out every person Belmore was going to throw to yesterday, and I was only wrong when he didnt throw it at all. I am seriously concerned, it does harm to our defense to combine the playcalling of Mussman, with the Playmaking of Belmore. I cant believe this isnt made into a bigger issue. We have 2 top quality backs, and our oline like I have been saying in the recent weeks, is playing excellent. Our recievers have elevated their game immensly. Our defense is back on track. Our quarterback is killing us. Dale...loose the extra weight, and get another ring.
  16. Ok....Just some thoughts about what we will need to do...better yet...my predictions on what were going to do when we whip on the Huskies this weekend. 1...........OF course....Stop the run...Matt Birkel wont go over 50. I got faith in my boys. 2..........Rush for 150 plus...OUr oline is looking good..GIve musman credit...He is a former o lineman. He knows how to have an o-line playing good, when it counts. 3..........Hit our 3 big play recievers.....Caleb Johnson, Dan Grossman, and Jeff Webber, ...I suspect they will each have 65 plus recieving 4..........Sacks, and tipped balls, I think our defense went throught a period of time in which we were just living off of past fame. We are now in the playoffs, and they have something to prove, even if our O would play bad(which it wont.) Not to mention coach Tibesar in his first year at D-Coordinator, faces the team that gave him his first loss...... 5.......Punt Return and Punt.....We have the best Punt Return team in the world..And we will get one. Plus our Bullets and punter are A+ as well.... 6......Play start to finish..Im telling you ..The huskie fans our in for a sad day....
  17. Hey...its good to wish and what not. Bowenkamp isnt going to be 100 percent. He sat out how many weeks, and wasnt. WHen he throws he tears it. He probably has digressed in progress. It shouldnt even be an option. It now comes to Reed or Belmore. I would like to see Reed. With a opened up playbook I feel his decisionmaking is better than Belmores, and Reed is a quarterback who has played in and won big games. Belmore to date still has never won a big game. But as far as John Goes, he is a gonner. Thanks for the memories. Good luck in business, its been a hell of a ride.
  18. Man...I just watched the first half of the sioux show. Did you see how bowenkamps passes were coming out. They were lobs, It makes it even more painful that we went with him for the whole game. Im hurt, and I know the players have to be a bit confused as well, I just dont understand it.
  19. Easy now....First thing...Our offensive line played great against Nebraska-Omaha. I was there. THey had a guy who was 340, and some speedy linebackers, and good defensive ends. And ...strouth rushed for 80 yards on 17 carries, and roland had maybe 20. Bowenkamp wasnt pressured all that much..ANd I think the reason is this.....it didnt take long for them to see that he couldnt throw deep. On that interception he almost threw, there were a line of linebackers at the first down marker, and he threw right to them. Ive never in my life seen coach lennon leave a guy in there on the road, playing that bad. He completed for less then 80 yards....Less than 80. Our defense didnt play there best game ever. But our offense was responsible for 3 points. Boe and the boys drive a bit the first drive, thanks to the running game, and one short pass. Punt return gets the ball on the 3. Thank heaven we scored Punt Return puts up another 7......Guys we only scored 17 points...And 14 came from the special teams. I think with Belmore or Manke we had a much better shot. WHy would we tank the season for a guy who hasnt played since week 1. It didnt even look like there was offensive cohesiveness . I think we can still make the playoffs and still will. But some things need to be worked out ...because in the playoffs our defense in 2 big games sees we cant count on anything..Special Teams played amazing. We will be ready, and waiting in florence, after earning it with tough wins on the road
  20. I think Reed is starting...And wont be looking back. What better game to build your confidence than mankato...And get ready to hit the road. Bowenkamp should just rest and get ready for the playoffs..And we evaluate from there. But Manke...Manke this is what you have been waiting for...
  21. I totally agree..Also helps teams play teams they havent played before....
  22. UND is looking a lot like Ocklahoma in the polls...But oh well..Fellas, do what fans do and speculate and work every angle, but know, we still have big wins coming over SD, and NO...Were in the driver seat.....Just start getting ready for the tin can to get rockin for the playoffs
  23. First.....Groeschol was fumbling the ball, if he catches them, he gets at least 15 yards..We always average atleast 13.....It is the team...Lueck last year, yes decent speed or good speed helps dramatically....Just look the next chance you get.....And then come back and post. 2. I agree with the Beatty and Charles comment..Coach Lennon, dont sacrafice the support of your upper classmen, just for sake of a freshman, youve never done it before. 3. Manke...Manke...Manke....(He is number 3 also) ...ALl I have to say is......Watch and see...the boy is a born winner....It wont take long to convince everyone
  24. well I know thats not true for sure, because we play mankato here this weekend....I think he should come back in relief against mankato, and play in Omaha.
  25. I think Lennon and the staff might be putting too much on Dressler. I havent seen the ball forced into the hands of a freshman, in all my years hear. Even Jimmy was a man child, and was like our only tight end option due to injury. Dressler is great on special teams, but he seems to be slowing the offense. I saw 2 passes thrown to Caleb, who is our number one reciever, and he caught both. Grossman was having a fine day, and Webber seems to be just as exciting with the ball in his hands. Plus they are all seasoned recievers. Dressler was not open any of the times the ball was thrown to him, resulting in incomplete passes. SOmetimes ......and I have noticed this since Augustana that they force the ball to him and Caleb or Webber will be wide open, maybe this is just Belmore in his reads, but after listening to Coach on the Show, I havent heard anyone talked about like he talks about weston. He is great on Kick return, and punt return.....those suit him perfect...the thing that has him playing right now is his excellent speed, and good quickness, and those are perfect cause they put him in the open field, and he can take a seam, but his reciever play is different. DOnt put too much on the kid, we have guys that do that....Hell if not anyone Caleb....Look at the National Championship game, or NDSU, or Winona..Big games and big catches....And now that he is the number one shot, he doesnt get the ball.........Webber has shown what he can do...... All I know is that my seat is right behind the offense bench, and I even heard Hogs (who never complain) complaining when he went in at rb...Now players are players and coaches are coaches for a reason...But we cant sacrafice a team for one player....ITs been what makes UND ...UND....Hell if that wasnt the case ....Im sure We would have different people still here...and we wouldnt be respected like we are....... Just my thoughts
