I thought Knight had a pretty decent freshman season. He didn't show up a whole lot on the goals/assists sheet, but he worked hard every shift and was probably one of our lowest penalized players all year. I think he'll get faster/stronger over the off-season and be a more dynamic and dominant player next year. I think there is more to the Toews story - when he played I generally liked what I saw...he won many races to the puck and had good hockey sense. It surprised me how little he played down the stretch. Cichy definitely didn't live up to the hype - should be interesting to see the progress he makes in the offseason as well. Marto was stellar night in and night out...and MacWilliam adjusted to the college level of play faster than I anticipated. He really will be an "animal" on the blue line next season. LaPoint, while he was a decent player this year, seemed a half step slow most of the time and I'm not sure if that was his injury lingering from last year or if it was a mental thing but I think he needs to speed up his game a bit and he'll be even better. Gleason was pretty consistent and I think will have a solid roster spot next year even with the new guys coming in. Blood...well when he is conscious of how/where his body is and hits cleanly he is a force. He also has a very strong shot that can give goalies some fits. But he needs to learn how to control his shot better - he breaks lots of sticks at really inopportune times. And he always plays the body and not the puck...sometimes I wish he'd do the opposite when the situation calls for it. He often makes me nervous when he's trying to break out of our zone - skating right in front or through the crease. He needs to get quicker on his feet and learn how to hit without getting penalized. All in all, the team that is coming back next year excites me. We return a lot of talent and a lot of character guys as well. A little healthy competition to earn a spot each night should only help the guys work harder and leave it all on the ice when given an opportunity. We could do some serious damage next year... Oh, and I think we'll see Chay in the fall for the senior season he was robbed from having. October is too far away...

As of about 3 years ago, the #1 seed gets the night game regardless of what other teams are at the F5.

Not sure how his PCS occurred, but Rylan Kaip also ended the season from the stands due to a concussion..

Now uscho has us at 5th. Other games must have ended since I last looked. Could we (gasp!) perhaps work our way into a #1 seed???

We're at 7th in the pairwise. It would be nice to stay out of Denver's bracket until the FF...I think we can handle Miami much easier. So I hope we stay above 8th...Let's not look past Tech next weekend, boys.

Did anyone else think the "celebration" for the 2000 championship team was lame? No video with game clips or on-ice celebration afterwards, no photos, nothing. No recap from their season over the PA, nothing. Just introducing them by name. With all the lights on. Couldn't even get the trophy itself onto the ice. For all the technology, bells and whistles the REA has I was really disappointed with that. Why even invite them back for the 2 minutes it took to introduce them??

Gophers finish the sweep with a 7-4 win over CC. We're still at 8 in PWR but CC drops to 18. Now we need to grab the bull(dog) by the horns and win tonight!

I don't like either option. It's a sad statement about the quality of the WCHA refs when I have to choose between Adam and Anderson based on which one is LESS bad. Anderson screwed us as recently as the Wisconsin series in Dec. with that phantom penalty on Hextall with 5 seconds left. (And for the record, while I throw up a little in my mouth I'll pick Anderson by a nose only because I have hated Adam since the Paukovich/Bina incident.)

If you have enough people sitting in a row you can always have each of the letters for M-E-D-I-O-C-R-E and hold them up when they spell Minnesota at the end of that stupid rouser... I've always been a fan of "Gopher hockey: Peak early, choke late." Classic.

...I'd just like to remind people that as far as I know and have heard the Buning hire was singlehandedly Kupchella's call. And...the AD committee was much smaller but additions were made by people already on the committee that thought they needed certain others on it. I do agree, though, Phil does know politics which should continue to prove to be helpful with keeping a pulse on and influencing members of the state legislature. Carry on...

I just booked a flight from Fargo to Colorado Springs for $450 which included a car rental for the duration of my stay. Fly out dawn on Thurs and back dawn on Monday. It works great for me because I know people to stay with in The Springs and just have to pay for gas/parking when I go to the games. Try northwest - on their main page go to "fare promotions" and click on "last minute packages." No flights to Denver but for $450 with a car when everything else was nearing 1000 bucks I'll take driving the hour up to Denver. I'm totally stoked! This is my first Frozen Four...already went to the Final Five this year and the regional in Madtown. Denver will give me the postseason Sioux hockey sweep! GO SIOUX!! See you all there!

Saw Trupp at the airport today traveling with the team to Madtown. He may not be game ready, but how hilarious would it be to have him dress and skate around for warmups just to freak the other team out and then not play and let him get healed enough (hopefully) for the Frozen Four. I say (provided we win Saturday) we play a dirty trick on the DU/WI winner and dress him for warmups before Sunday's game!

I have been using the same sign at Final Fives for a few years now: "Minnesota: Land of 10,000 Excuses." It will be there again this weekend. It would be nice, though, to have some pro-UND signs as well as a sign for our game vs. Denver. As much as I like to rip on the gophers, it wouldn't be too relevant for our game. I only wish we were holding up a "Where is Minnesota?" sign tonight...
