Ray77 Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 If Vegas and Seattle are chosen, how would divisions be realigned. They wouldn't put Vegas in the Central would they? Would there be a major realignment again? What about during that time Florida heads to QC and Arizona goes to Portland? Move Arizona to the Central Division and add Las Vegas and Seattle to the Pacific. You'd then have 16 teams in each conference and 8 teams in each division. Quote
SiouxVolley Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Perhaps Kansas City may have a potential owner now. Lamar Hunt Jr, worth $4 bill, bought the CHLs Missouri Mavericks. Might be interested in an NHL team. http://lamarhuntjrsports.com/lamar-hunt-jr-brings-kansas-city-hockey-into-the-future/ Quote

Las Vegas would want to be Pacific as it would have drivable rivals with Phoenix, Anaheim, and LA. Quote
SiouxVolley Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 At least one potential owner has thrown in his hat for a second Toronto team. A second Toronto team could play in the West, so Toronto would often have doubleheader nights on TV. That could mean the NHL could add four teams, with Quebec City getting one in the east. http://m.thn.com/blog/graeme-roustan-will-definitely-apply-for-second-nhl-team-in-toronto/ Quote

I was thinking about moving Calgary to the Central to put LV in the Pacific, but they'd want to keep Calgary and Edmonton in the same conference - so moving both might work. Quote

SiouxVolley Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 The new owners of the Atlanta Hawks want a new arena. The old owner let Phillips run down and didn't want the Thrashers. Ted Turner only insisted the arena be in downtown so he could walk from his penthouse condo. If an NBA/NHL arena had been built in suburban Cobb/ Gwinnett, the Thrashers would likely still be there. If the Hawks get a new suburban arena, that will probably be the new favorite location for moving the Panthers. http://markbradley.blog.ajc.com/2015/06/25/hawks-fans-are-you-ready-for-a-new-arena/ Atlanta developers never tire of a build and demolish strategy. California Golden Seals and the Minnesota North Stars, two blasts from the past. Quote
GeauxSioux Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 http://www.hockeyfeed.com/breaking-city-comes-out-of-nowhere-and-expresses-desire-for-an-nhl-team/ With all the talk of NHL expansion in cities like Quebec City, Las Vegas, Seattle and even Kansas City it’s easy to forget that their may be other cities interested in bringing the NHL to their town. According to multiple reports the city of Proctor, Minnesota intends to throw it’s name in the hat for an NHL franchise, and they think they can draw the necessary fan base, city councilor Travis White makes a solid point.... .....“You look at Grand Forks, the University of North Dakota, their hockey team brings in about 11,600 fans to each home game, while the lowest NHL team brings in 11,200. That’s part of the market for an NHL team up here,” explained White.” Quote
SiouxVolley Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 http://www.hockeyfeed.com/breaking-city-comes-out-of-nowhere-and-expresses-desire-for-an-nhl-team/ The city council of Proctor needs some proctologists to examine their brain matter, unless they have a $300 MIL arena, a prospective owner with $500 MIL lining his pocket, and a plan to be a suburb of Milwaukee instead of Duluth. Maybe Fargo will push for an NHL team in the FargoDome too! Quote

SiouxVolley Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 This isn't as crazy as Jon Greenspon trying to get the 2026 Winter Olympics in Bozeman MT. Small towns have a history of hosting the Winter Games. Bozeman can be just as capable as Squaw Valley, Lake Placid, Lillehammer, or the tiny S Korean town upcoming. The NHL requires a massive nearby population to seĺlout games for seven months, nevermind a big local corporate presence. Proctor has a lot better chance to be taken seriously with an Olympic bid, but they don't have alpine venues. Quote

Duluth rarely saw the team, if ever. Maybe Proctor could get a team the same way, just by taking a share of the home teams gate and the NHL NBC contract. Quote
SiouxVolley Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 http://www.sonicsrising.com/2015/7/8/8916975/victor-coleman-seattle-nhl-expansion So Seattle might have four groups bidding, one for an arena in south downtown, one for an arena in Tukwila, and two for an arena in Bellevue. Each submitted application costs $10 mil. Las Vegas, Quebec City, and Toronto/Hamilton/South Ontario will have bids submitted too. Only Vegas and Quebec have arenas being built. Quote

Pure guess (with some "Capt. Obvious" assumption): Tech money (Microsoft or Google) Bellevue is halfway between Seattle and Redmond. Quote
