Probably not related. My guess is the Champions Club announcement is more along the lines of an "annual" announcement, especially with the timing.

With eight months to spare, UND’s North Dakota Spirit campaign surpassed its $300 million goal, according to Tim O’Keefe, the CEO and executive vice president of the UND Foundation and Alumni Association.

Two recent large gifts have pushed the campaign to nearly $300.6 million, said O’Keefe, who made the announcement Thursday during the State of the Alumni Association and Foundation address.

“When we set the goal of $300 million a little over six years ago, many thought we were beyond overly optimistic,” he told the Herald. “In fact, some even questioned our sanity. We have not only blown through this goal, but we are going to accomplish so much more throughout the balance of this campaign and beyond.”
