I wanted to know from people that have a little experience taking cabs in Minneapolis. We have booked a hotel in Bloomington and possibly plan on taking the tram to downtown Minneapolis. From there, we would get a cab to the Xcel to avoid parking/traffic.

Has anyone done this before to games at the Xcel? If so, how much did it cost from the tram station in downtown Minneapolis to the Xcel by getting a cab?

Thanks

Me and my girlfriend took a cab from the X to our hotel which was about 4 miles away and it cost $15.00

Haven't taken that exact route, but have taken plenty of cabs aournd the cities. I would guess it will run about $20-$25.

Edit: Agree - probably better off going direct. Will save a but of time and will only be an incremental $5 or so.

You'd be better off taking a cab from Bloomington to the X directly. It would probably cost the same...ballpark $30

Tram costs also vary by time. The website below can help with that. Also, keep in mind, that while it might take longer....taking the train and then a bus to the X might be cheaper. Again, the website can help you plan out the best route. Though hint, going to downtown St. Paul....I don't recommend taking the train all the way to downtown MPLS....the 32nd Station would most likely be the closest one for going to downtown St. Paul.

To your immediate question, I don't know. I'm guessing $25-30, but that's a wild guess.

There may be better choices than light rail to taxi to Xcel.

First, If you are comfortable with public transportation, the 94 Express bus (from Downtown Minneapolis to downtown St Paul) is a good choice.

http://www.metrotransit.org/Schedules/WebSchedules.aspx?route=94&service=1

If you take the bus, I cannot stress too strongly the importance of the express. (There is a local route that takes over an hour from dntn Mpls to dntn St Paul.

Second, if you are comfortable taking public transportation, I would suggest just taking the Route 54 from MOA to Downtown St Paul.

http://www.metrotransit.org/Schedules/WebSchedules.aspx?route=54&service=1

Third, if you are taking a taxi, it only saves about 2 miles to go from Downtown Mpls instead of just going from Bloomington. (Plus the light rail savings.)

Hope this is helpful. I live on the north side of town, so have not taken those south-side transportation routes personally. ALLOW EXTRA TIME is the general rule.

I should have thought of Route 54....I forgot that one.

At the final 5 our hotel was 4 miles east on I-94 ..........

During the afternoon we took the metro bus from the hotel to within a block of the X for $1.75 (20 minute ride)

Late that night from downtown to the hotel the cab was $16.50

Under NO circumstances should you take a non-express route between downtown Minneapolis and St Paul (ie the 16 or the 50). The route these buses travel on is currently under construction for the new light rail and it will take you double the time it normally does.

Bus 54 is a great option for MOA to the X. Peak time cost is $2.25 per person. Otherwise, it's $1.75 each. Pretty quick trip too, and it runs every 15 or 30 minutes (cant remember for sure).

I would agree that it might be cheaper to just cab directly from Bloomington to the Xcel rather than take the tram into Mpls. By the time you pay your fair to ride both ways you will have been able to cover that cost in the taxi. Plus it might be less expensive with a group.

The Metro Transit also has a very helpful "Trip Planner" feature where you can enter your address/landmark and time of travel and it will give you some options for how to get there. It's on the upper-right corner of the website: http://www.metrotransit.org/

There is also a number you can call and, from my experience, they would be more than willing to help you out to find the best plans as well. Once on the bus, the drivers are also usually very friendly and will help you get where you need to go.

I'd take the route 54 bus downtown and then take a cab home after the game/bar time...

Cabs from Downtown Minneapolis to St Paul are ~$33-35, I've done it several times...
