  1. I think Sioux Falls is a great choice! (I may be a bit biased as I live here) premier center is a great venue, only downfall is lack of restaurants/ bars within walking distance to arena. But downtown and now the 8th and railroad area are really great areas to hang out and have a nice variety of bars, food and even a few brewery/tap rooms. Hopefully the slightly larger capacity than scheel's means I'll actually be able to get my hands on some tickets!
  2. No joke. And midcosn is currently showing a replay of last week's game. Ridiculous....
  3. I live in SF and while I agree that the venue itself is a great place to watch a hockey game ( I prefer it over the scheels area in Fargo) Sioux falls is not a great town to host this tourney. There is a lack of restaurants close to the arena. Much like Fargo taxi service is also not incredibly convenient. Also quite honestly Sioux falls is boring as hell.
  4. I just moved from St. Paul to Sioux Falls and now have midco and get to watch the hockey games again. Personally I don't care who calls it because I'm just so excited I'm not forced to watch the gophers anymore (or listen to the FSN crew during gopher/UND games)! Not having seen the last few seasons of the FSSN broadcasts I can't really compare to new Midco broadcasts, but I'm not annoyed with the new announcers. And as long as I don't feel the need to watch with the sound turned off, I'm happy with it.
  5. http://metrotransit.org/Schedules/WebSchedules.aspx?route=55&service=2 On Friday and Saturday nights the last train leaves target field at 2:13 am. As with any late night outside of any bar area in a large or a small town you need to have situational awareness and use some common sense. Having moved from ND to St. Paul seven years ago I can tell you that my idea of what constitutes a 'safe' environment has changed over time. Honestly the downtown area is 'safer' ie has a larger police presence (both city and transit forces) and better street lighting and taxi options than other areas in the Twin Cities. The area surrounding the U of M campus is far more 'dangerous' lately. Although there are some shady areas near downtown, but like another poster stated- after leaving the bars and heading to your hotel you wouldn't be anywhere near those neighborhoods anyway.
  6. I was watching online and I saw a recap/highlights from our games during the later games. But online you can watch everything from both espn3 and espnu live so I'm not sure which feed it was on. Maybe the channel you were on didn't show highlights because they were doing a delayed broadcast of the game?
  7. As someone who doesn't have TV, only the internet I have to say I really like the online espnu viewer and how it lets you spitscreen to watch multiple games at once. The fact that Comcast ISP allows access is probably the only thing I like about its service.
  8. I started fall 2001 and was in the band and can tell you that the band and the cheerleaders were doing DAKOTA at the end of Stand up and Cheer back then.
  9. tough game- they managed to hang in there for the first half of the game, but MN was faster. On the other hand MN's non-ability to hit an empty net throughout most of 3rd was kind of amusing
  10. Oooh I didn't know the Rusty Taco was owned by UND alums. Now I like it more- and it is already super delicious and reasonably priced! It's in the parking lot of the Trader Joe's so I always go hungry when I shop there so I can make the excuse of getting tacos as well
  11. Considering "Pride of the North" is currently in use at UND as the name of the marching/pep bands, I would doubt it ends up being the nickname for the entire sports program.
  12. I was at the Minnesota/Wisconsin game in the Target center a few years ago. Its not my favorite place to watch a hockey game- there is just something off about the atmosphere. Maybe I'm just spoiled from games at REA and the X. In comparision I'm also not the hugest fan of Mariucci either- I personally feel the game day/production atomosphere has always felt a little on the amatuer side and more like being at a traveling club team arena than what I've come to expect at REA and the X. I kind of like the idea of rotating locations. Gives people another chance to see other schools' arenas. Though this may not be what brings in the most $ so it may not be the most realistic of options.
  13. I'll admit to rooting for NDSU during thier playoff run and now trip to the championship game. When I was a student and marching band member at UND we were fortunate enough to be able to travel to and support our team as they played in 2 National championships. It was a great experience that I know not everyone gets to have. Those road trips are some of my favorite memories from undergrad. I'm happy not only for the student/athelets who have worked hard to get to where they are, but also for their parents and the NDSU fans, students and alumni who will travel to the game. From experience I know they will have a great time playing in/attending the championship game win or lose. (Though it is more fun to win) But most of all I'm rooting for UND to continue to build upon our tradition of excellence and hopeful that it won't be too long before we get to play in our first D1 national championship.
  14. oh I would agree about the lack of economic diversity. I'd love to come back now that I'm done with grad school, but unfortunatley there isn't a very large market for my skill set in ND.
  15. http://www.ndus.edu/students/paying-for-college/grants-scholarships/#NDSP Yep its called the North Dakota Scholars program. Plus you can use it in addition to any school specific scholarship offers. For example I also had a UND Presidential Scholarship which I ended up using to pay for room and board.
  16. The state of North Dakota does have something similar to this. When I was at UND I recieved a tuition 'waiver'/scolarship becasue of my high ACT score which could be used I believe at any college in ND. I don't recall it being well advertised, nor do I think it was something I applied for. I'll have to check to see if there is an online link to it
