SooToo Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Let me preface this by saying that I'm happy with the Big Sky, and I hope the Big Sky presidents are still happy with UND despite our lack of travel partner in the eastern Dakota's. With that said, IF--and I repeat IF--the Big Sky is no longer happy with adding UND as an all-sports member due to travel concerns, it would seem that the logical way out of it would be to give UND a football-only bid, a la UC-Davis and Cal Poly. That's the one and only way Kolpack's suggestion makes any sense whatsoever. Agree 100%. Fullerton's recent comments, cited from a newspaper article and posted in another thread today, that UND likely could exit the Big Sky with no financial penalty if they went about it "the right way" represented, I think, an acknowledgement that the Sky's attempt to branch out in the Dakotas hasn't gone entirely as planned. Nice to know we have that option. I always assumed that UND eventually would end up in the Summit and MVFC, with the MVFC split into divisions. Still think that could happen eventually. Certainly, a Summit/BSC-football-only arrangement could be reasonable as well, and I suspect the BSC might be more amenable to that since USD bailed out of their verbal commitment, essentially closing the door on further expansion in the Dakotas Having said all that, I agree full Big Sky is the best choice -- much higher name recognition/reputation, a single conference for all sports, a path separate from the AC (always love that one) and the other dakota schools and a chance to bring UND athletics to new territory. The only drawback, of course, is travel costs, which eventually could be a drag, especially for non-revenue sports. At some point that may make a change more attractive. And getting back to the original topic, bring on the yotes anytime. Quote
The Sicatoka Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 The only drawback, of course, is travel costs, ... Folks, today we're sending teams from NJIT to Cal Poly! I heard Faison on with Dan Hammer. He said the BSC is a wash at worst. Having known travel destinations (conference) makes scheduling and dealing for rates far easier. If Faison says the BSC travel cost is no worse than today I believe him. Quote
bincitysioux Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 As far as the original question of this thread, I would like to continue playing the Yotes, in all sports. People like to downplay the "rivalry", but since the transition, we've had some excellent games with them in football and basketball. The OT football game in Vermillion, the WBB game in Vermillion when Roebuck pulled the players off the floor at the end, and the MBB team knocking them out of the post-season in successive years after they whooped us in the regular season. They're easily #3 on the rival list after Minnesota and NDSU, and I'd guess they'd still love to play us. 1 Quote
JackJD Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Now that SDSU has their true #1 rival back in USD are they still going to play for the marker with NDSU.... Will SDSU and NDSU still play for the Marker? Yes. I don't think SDSU will rank its rivals...it will just have tough rivalries with more than one school. Quote
goyotes Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Hopefully the Yotes - Sioux games will continue. What better authority to consult for questions regarding then Yotes-Sioux than Red Green and his advice is to remember "we're all in this together". And some additional advice from Red, obviously just for the Sioux "keep your stick on the ice." Quote

usdfbalum Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 I really think that USD and UND will play again regularly in BB and VB yearly for sure going forward - FB perhaps every other year. In talking with the Athletic Department of USD - they mentioned that UND and USD's relationship is solid. I was hoping to see USD go to the Big Sky, but I also understand why USD eventually went to the MVFC. I think most rational people do. Interesting to read all the pot-shots some have taken at USD after the conference shake-out by a few posters on this board. I respect your University and your athletic programs, and I also know first hand that you have mostly great fans. The ones I was referring to are most likely the same trouble seeking, drunk, loudmouths in the stands that I see security escorting out every time I have come to the Alerus to watch a game. Can't wait until next year - it will be USD's first victory in Grand Forks since 234 BC. And if some on this board get their wish, and it is the last game of the series - a fun parting gift from the Coyotes. 1 Quote
Westside Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Kolpack wears a green and yellow pleated skirt with matching pom-poms. What else would you expect him to come up with? But... does Kolpack reach the NCAA minimum height requirement for cheerleading participation? Quote

Considering the 180 that USD just pulled on UND it is pretty obvious that we're not all in this together. Quote
