dagies
Evidence? Two birthday parties and the Nevada Gaming Comm. for evidence is that enough? I own a copy of Mein Kampf. I also own a book with personal photos and diary accounts from German soldiers and officers involved in the Holocaust. What does that make me? The PC idiot brigade may send the FBI after you. I have a WWII book on the SS with a bunch of pictures of Himmler, Heydrich, etc. in it. I had better watch out, too. redwing77
Aw crap. I am reading Desmond Young's biography of Irwin Rommel... I read recently a nonfiction account of the early Russian Revolution, about a mutiny on the Battleship Potempkin...who voted against Obama. I guess I'm a Nazi loving communist leaning racist ultra conservative hate mongering Jew. I think my head is going to explode from all that internal strife! The Sicatoka
I was witness to the horrors of "objectification" caused by team nicknames on Friday. A group of college age females, who did not know I could overhear them, commented that a young male who'd just walked by was a "fine specimen" and would most likely be able to (I won't quote exactly, but) meet their pleasure needs. I blame the NBA Milwaukee and Chicago franchises for this objectifying view of males. No more "Bucks". No more "Bulls".

Detroit87
Did your staff wear t-shirts that said, "EUROPEAN TOUR '39'-45' " on them? He almost lost his license over this. If they had taken his license what could he have done about it?
The Sicatoka
He almost lost his license over this. He did not lose his license. He did apologize for the untoward events. The FBI did investigate and did not find any of the alleged leanings. (No "almosts" in that.) The FBI opened an investigation of late Imperial Palace owner Ralph Engelstad over his fascination with Adolf Hitler and Nazi memorabilia, bureau documents obtained by the Review-Journal show. Over a four-year period in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the bureau examined concerns Engelstad had "political leanings toward the extreme right wing in Nazism as opposed to simply being interested from a historical basis." The inquiry, which detailed his multimillion dollar collection of Nazi-era items and private celebrations of Hitler's birthday at the hotel, failed to produce any "solid evidence" Engelstad was a Nazi or had "such beliefs." The longtime Las Vegas casino owner died of lung cancer in November, making his FBI file available to the public. "He was very wealthy and had money to spend on a cause if it mattered to him," observed Michael Green, a professor of history at the Community College of Southern Nevada. "The FBI's long-standing displeasure with casino operators might have made the feds a little more interested in him than they might have been if it were the guy who ran the corner bookstore." Worse? The documents obtained by the Review-Journal also trace a bureau inquiry into threats Engelstad received from individuals claiming to represent a radical Jewish group. http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/200...s/21325141.html The man has been dead for nearly seven years now. Can we bury him and argue the merits of today?
Detroit87
Still what would he have done if they had taken his license?
Goon
Still what would he have done if they had taken his license? Ralph was into the construction industry and that is how he made a lot of his money and Ralph did a lot of things he still would have been gainfully employed anyways, we get it you have an axe to grind with Ralph Englestad. 82SiouxGuy
Still what would he have done if they had taken his license? It's hard to say since they didn't. But since he started in the construction business, and made a lot of money in construction, I'm sure he would have found a way to make a living. Not to mention the real estate business, which seemed to be very good to him. They didn't take his license. The FBI didn't find enough evidence to charge him with anything after a 4 year investigation. He's been dead for several years. I'm sure that he wasn't a saint. Very few people are. But there isn't enough evidence of any kind to say that he was a monster either. Maybe it's time to let it go and let Ralph rest in peace. siouxforeverbaby
Still what would he have done if they had taken his license? what if the sun fell out of the sky and no one would ever be warm again? I get that you didn't/don't like Ralph Englestad. However, the man died 8 YEARS AGO! let him rest in peace. again, the FBI did an investigation and did not find anything to charge him with! Please explain to me how what they found does not matter?

krangodance
Evidence? Two birthday parties and the Nevada Gaming Comm. for evidence is that enough? blah, blah, blah. it doesn't matter. und is not ralph engelstad. und fans are not ralph engelstad. und athletes are not ralph engelstad. the und nickname is not ralph engelstad. the und logo is not ralph engelstad. by your logic, we should do an investigation of every person who ever donated money to a university. for every person we find who has anything that could possibly be construed as seedy in their past, we must change the nickname and logo of the university to which they made donations and tear down anything that was built using those donation dollars. the nickname and logo debate has nothing to do with ralph engelstad. if you want to start a thread about re-naming the hockey arena because you believe it's named after a "bad" man, then go to your university's message board and take care of business. NorthDakotaHockey
Ralph Engelstad gave away more money to more people and charitable causes than most all of us, combined, will ever see in our working lives. His casinos, both in Nevada and in The Gulf, were the largest employers of disadvantaged and handicapped individuals across the entire gaming industry. Every year, he donated many many wheelchairs to those who were without and in need of the same. He lived his life with passion, with conviction, with pride, and with purpose. He was never shy to lend a helping hand, or a handful of dollars, to anyone who was rightfully in need. The tired old talk about FBI investigations that went nowhere, and about an ill conceived party for which he later apologized (a party tied to an unveiling of the world's largest collection of WWII vehicles, many of them German), comes from the lips of the uninformed and the downright ignorant. If the world had a much bigger raft of Ralph Engelstads, the world would be a much better place for all of us.

Wasn't Columbus a butcher in his own right? Yet we celebrate him every year. We have people get feathers ruffled about two birthday parties and one Nevada license snafu and yet we glorify Columbus? My history is fuzzy, but I'm sure there are others.
