The Sicatoka
No, not Norse, but how about ... The Norse-Germanic god of ... Justice Courage Strategy Self-sacrifice Order War Athletics His element is fire (think UND's flame logo). His symbol is the spear (or upward pointing arrow) <-- possible logo alert! In mythology, he gave his right hand to bind the evil wolf that would bring the end of the world. (How fitting is that. ) He was original head of the pantheon of Norse gods. He has a day of the week named for him (the day after Monday). His name is Tyr (see also: Tyr). And those who'd follow him would be .... the Tyrants. And before someone jumps all over me ... tyrant (defined).

I like it, it's unique and the Norwegian connection is definitely North Dakota, but I doubt there will ever be concensus on this issue enough to make it happen. I'm thinking just going with "North Dakota" is going to be the safe, conservative North Dakota way - not that there is anything wrong with that. sioux7>5
Go Cavalry. I like it a lot. it is historical and ties into North Dakota. But most of all i think it could make a kick ass logo. Use the crossing swords that the military uses. It would be awesome. But after saying that. Keep the Sioux nickname if possible. If not go Cavalry! If you are going to go with "just" North Dakota, I say just use "Dakota"...it won't be long until somebody complains about that either I'm sure...
