An added benefit of our new offense is it will help our defense when we play teams like Weber, Eastern Washington etc.. They will be used to seeing a lot more misdirection and things going on, other than run up the middle, toss left or right, pass to Wanzek. And we run some up tempo on offense in practice too which will help. I'm ok during games being slow and deliberate to burn clock against teams like EWU. To me you can still be a ball control team without having to be ground and pound up the middle, you just need to move the chains consistently. Move the chains, take your time in the huddle....you can still give your defense a rest and keep the other potent offense off the field.

I could be wrong, but haven't you said in the past that having new, flashy or cool uniforms is important for recruiting? Or maybe that was Geausioux. I'd rather have a fun atmosphere as a recruit over flashy uniforms. I'm ok not keeping score and what not for the spring game, but I remember when Nevermann made that one move in a drill in spring practice that got people all excited. From the sounds of it the general opinion is that the spring game this year was extra boring. It really wouldn't take too much to make it a little more exciting. I was looking forward to it being streamed, but maybe with the new offense this year they purposely didn't stream it? We have a pretty big game the second game of the year, might be able to show a few things in that game that we won't show verses Drake.
-
Thanks...I had just found it.
-
Isn't there audio? Can't find anything.....ugh
-
So there should be audio of spring practice....on 550 or was it 710?
-
Really....well that completely blows!! So in essence we are taking a step backwards this year......by not streaming it, great. There has been such little chat this spring practice....was at least looking forward to the last practice/scrimmage being streamed. Hoping they still might come up with something. Well at least we had two pages today of arguing over where to hold spring ball....and the difference between silver and grey.
-
I think if they are able to add a white helmet at some point, the grey jerseys and white helmet could look really good. The grey jerseys as they are right now though, I agree with you. They wear the grey jerseys a fair amount, I wonder if the players like them for some reason? It seems like they almost wear them more than the green.

Is Izzy going to be 100% come this fall? Is he practicing in spring practice? Danny didn't even mention him when talking about the WR's.
-
You think they'd be doing that already now though wouldn't you? I mean whomever is going to switch would need some time to make that adjustment I'd think.
-
We seem to have pretty good depth now at almost every position but NG. They knew a year ago at this time we were losing two of your NG's and did nothing. I'd love to give the staff the benefit of the doubt....but I have a feeling we are going to get pushed around all year up the middle and it's going to hurt us. I sure hope I'm wrong.

Grover has to be one of the most under the radar players we've had in a while. I believe he was a PWO? Last year at this time I barely even knew he was on the roster and now it's looking like he might be 2nd on depth chart? The fall notebook post from last August barely even mentions him, and doesn't really even mention him as contending for the starting spot. https://fightinghawks.com/news/2018/8/10/football-fall-camp-notebook-vol- 8.aspx Just looking for something to talk about since things have been so quiet this spring ball season.

Are you kidding.....there is no way that would have worked if we would have split Santiago out wide.
-
Given our schedule, this could happen. NDSU and EWU will likely both be top 5 teams, and we play them on the road. Typically there is no shame in losing to Sam Houston, but this one is almost a must win game so we can be 2-2. Not to say I don't want to win the other two. We got a pelt from Montana last year we really need one from EWU before we leave the Big Sky schedule, but they will be good this year and will be a tough one on the road. I'd love it if we were 3-1 after the first four. We may have the toughest FCS schedule of anyone this year. But yet I'm sure we'll still hear how we didn't play Montana.
-
As in won't start for us......ever? Or just not this year because he's 4th on depth chart? Next year the only QB's other than Boltmann will be Grover and the true freshman.
-
So is Boltmann being listed at 4th string and getting some reps at WR.... 1. A sign that the other QB's are looking really good? 2. A sign that he isn't has good as we were hoping. Some of us thought he might be a Keaton 2.0.......able to run but with a better arm? Either way I think he ends up staying at QB long term because we graduate two QB's this year and will need him next year. Somebody commented on the DL looking undersized. How has the NG position looked during spring ball so far, are we going to be screwed all year because we don't have a legit sized NG?
-
Me to...and yes it was. Waited four years to be able to drive up for that game, and it was pathetic. So sad to see Brady and John go out in such offensive futility in their last college game, what a shame. In hindsight though, I'm glad it was as bad as it was to ensure Rudy got canned. Even with Kelly Green glasses on I don't think there is any way I could have been excited about the upcoming season if we hadn't made a change after those last three games of the year last year.
-
Give the staff some credit, after losing two guys the caliber of John and Brady, I still feel pretty excited about the RB's we have going into this year. And definitely excited to see what they can do with a more experienced OL, and real offense. Gordon was really good when he got his chances early on, he'll definitely be a nice change of pace to JJ. I think the different RB's will compliment each other well this year and we have some different styles to mix things up.
-
For me I Kinda like the NAU one since I can drive to that. And I’d like to get that horrible taste out of my mouth since my only time being to one at NAU was last year, and that game was about as ugly as you can get given there was a playoff spot riding on it.
-
Just having a more diverse and fun offense to watch will likely put a few more butts in the seats for home games on it's own. Hopefully with that offense and a strong defense it will help bring more wins as well which will help attendance. The last four games last year were so miserable, I am SO thankful I don't have to watch another year of Rudy ball! How did JJ look, is he a little leaner this year?
-
Hopefully with a little more of a diverse offense, and if we can have success with it......we'll have a better chance at landing these type of WR's. If you were a WR coming out of HS, unless you had some major reason to come to UND, who wouldn't want to go to SDSU over UND. Not too many WR's would want to come play for hand off up the gut every play until 3rd and long.
-
Question, I'm not sure what or how much contact is allowed with the team in the off season. Danny obviously has a brand new, and completely different playbook (Thank God), is he able to get that out to the players in the off season so they can start reviewing it and getting familiar with it? Or will they walk in day one of spring ball and see the new play book for the first time that day?
-
I like it too. You know Kleiman won't allow K State to overlook or let up in that game, he's going to want to stick it in us good.
-
Even though the debacle at the end of the year last year happened, and how frustrating it was to watch......I'm SO glad we laid an egg at the end of the year. If we would have just won one of those games we would have been in playoffs and I'd guess Rudy is still calling plays for us. We were never going to be more than maybe a one win playoff team with him. I waited for about 4-5 years for UND to play at NAU again since we didn't play them at NAU since 2013 I think. Had looked forward to that game for so long and being able to see the team in person again. Was such an ugly and embarrassment of a game, but I am now thankful for it. Last year we were somewhat excited because we thought we had a QB who could throw the deep ball better, it gave us a glimmer of hope for the offense. Well this year we have some real reason to have some hope for our offense and almost the entire offense returning. Most of the defense is returning, and we just seem to have better depth at almost every position than we've had in a while, minus NG. Danny still has to prove himself as OC, but I certainly think there is reason for hope. I'm going to wear my Kelly Green glasses all off season because I have to have hope for something better than what was, otherwise there is no point. We do have a very tough schedule next year though and who knows we may only go .500, but I'm going to be excited for a few months while I can.
