I agree with you that UC Davis will likely look like a better win this year and benefit us more, but we've been completely embarrassed by them since we joined the Big Sky. This win would be more gratifying for me long term, and i would love to be the team that knocks them out of the rankings to break their streak....and do it at their house. Plus if we lose to Davis, that would give us another 'quality loss' But hey I'd be down for winning both!

A D II school scored 30 points on them this year, we need to score 40.....and hold them to under 40 and we win. If Idaho can hold them to under 30 we can do it. They are at home though and their backs are against the playoff wall right now so they are going to be pretty amped up. We need to get off to a good start in the first quarter!

On a normal blocking scheme there is supposed to be a designated hole/gap. In zone blocking......not 100% sure....but does the back just view and look for the best hole, or is there supposed to be a designated gap for the RB to look for? If so, JJ is probably more effective when he knows he has to barrow through a designated hole. Of course on any scheme, a RB may need to bounce it out of the designated hole, but wonder if JJ's skill set isn't the best match for zone blocking? Either way, hope we figure it out this weekend, I'm sure it's been a focal point the past two weeks. Gordan seems like he'd be a good RB to slide and pick the best hole.

I'd say this helps them slightly more than it helps us. We are use to playing in a dome, they are use to playing in crappy weather at home towards the end of the year, so crappy weather games are normal for them. Been a while since we've played a crappy weather game hasn't it? Our DB's have been playing great, if a DB slips....boom a WR is wide open, granted this could happen to either team. I agree with the other previous poster that a lot will depend on if their QB has a hot game or not, and if we can get any running game established.

I agree, that bothered me too. I wanted to make a comment and reply to that, but until our team actually shows up against them I just left it alone. We've been completely embarrassed by them for years, it's time to change that this year!

With last years offense, we would have loved this as we were ground and pound. This year I'd rather just take perfect conditions and just flat out beat EWU.

Defensive struggle

He should definitely get more touches. Not sure why Danny isn’t using him on the sweep this year, it was so effective last year.

That is funny that he remembers those specifics from two different UND football games that occurred about15 years ago

And......Kett didn't play, they put a true freshman in. And if Tommy went down...they probably would have went to Boltmann. Edit: I forgot about Grover for a minute, probably would have went to Grover/Boltmann if Tommy went down.

I don't think the coaches will hesitate to play Schuster if they feel it's the best for the team right now. For one, he could play the next two games and still have 1 more game left. Also if Zimm is out the rest of the year, I'd say pretty good chance Schuster's shirt will get burned unless Kett stays healthy the rest of the year after he comes back. I think they realize how the last few years are and know we need to win now. And I agree, too many assumptions as to what things could be like in 4 years.

We have not beaten them since joining the Big Sky, and a few of the games they completely blew us out. We need a pelt from them this year before we leave the Big Sky. They kind of think we are a joke since they usually smoke us every year. Playing the duel threat QB in SH was good prep for Eastern. They are gonna score some points, but maybe if we can keep them in the low to mid 30’s we can out score them. Will need some of this tipped balls to go our way too

You're right! Looking at that in slow motion, we snap the ball in the 16 yard line, the OL pushes the whole DL back to the 14-15 yard line by the time Chappel hits the hole. We had DII players and were pushing the FCS line of a decent team back,. We do have 7 Sioux in the box on the snap though, but the OL still pushed their DL back.

Might be the biggest thing that came out of this game. I for one had that oh sh*t feeling during this game....like here we go again....and thought our season may be borderline over (in a sense of realistic playoff shot) in September once again, but the team found a way to win with a true freshman and not being able to run the ball.

I don't fully buy into the Bubba being nice thing and letting off the gas. I hardly doubt he said anything to Danny about letting off the gas on offense after we were up 27-14. In fact Danny was still being aggressive which led to us throwing the pick that got them back in the game. I do agree with the general notion of sometimes maybe Bubba being too nice and that the team sometimes doesn't seem to have the killer instinct. However I don't feel we let off the gas on offense at all, I mean how could we....we couldn't run the ball to save our lives.

A pass definitely would have been questioned if it went incomplete, however I'm thinking some type of sweep outside or a rollout pass or something would have been better since we had been getting nothing all day. However when it's 4th and 1 normally an OC should feel comfortable calling any running play....just sad by the OL yesterday. When I saw how we were lined up, it sure looked like it was just going to be a run by JJ and it wasn't looking good to me before they even snapped the ball.

Siegel has been very impressive. Their stud WR had four catches for 11 yards, totally agree our secondary play is the best it’s probably ever been since moving up. And the fact we are doing that with our best DB our is awesome. Schmidt seemed to get s better handle on their QB running in the second half. Great secondary play and starting to figure out mobile QB will be big against EWU.
-
Thought for sure missing that extra point was going to cost us the game. But weirdly enough it ended up helping us win.
-
I think good chance Kett will be back as well. Although maybe a little rusty if he's not able to practice much? Siegal is good!!
-
JJ 14 carries for 20 yards.....Ouch! I would have never thought that possible.
-
Danny's 3rd game as OC....I'm sure he is still figuring a few things out as to what he likes, what works, what doesn't etc... Sure is a lot harder to call plays when you have almost no run game at all. When is the last time Cam ran the sweep, man that is one play we should have kept from last year.
-
Probably can't scrap zone blocking in the middle of the season, but that was seriously ugly....and they should damn near consider scrapping it!
-
For it being Potato Bowl....against a good team on a beautiful day.......ouch that isn't good.

Well hey, might be the first game in a long time where we made the better adjustments. We needed this win so badly, congrats to the team, coaches and players, for getting it done under some true adversity when you throw a true freshman in there. Need to figure out something on the ground though......Ufff.
