I think Shuster led him too much, was more poor throw than a drop IMO

My ESPN isn't working either, had to create an account on Midco real quick.

Too late to get Schmidt back? We were butter on that drive.

I'm excited for some UND football!! Hearing Boltmann is probably out though is a huge buzzkill. I think he would have gotten a fair amount of snaps at QB today, especially if Tommy Gun struggles to move the team.

That’s the beauty of having such good corners, we can put them out on an island maybe a bit more to focus on the run. They may get beat a few times but I doubt our corners will get carved up all day unless their QB is on fire and dropping dimes all day.

I always listen to them, was hoping you’d still be doing them this spring. I listened last night. After listening last night, it does make me more concerned about stopping their power running game. However last year I thought MSU would run all over us and we held them to around 10-12 points. It will definitely be a good test for our DL tomorrow.

I think the game is a bit of a toss up, I could see it going either way......so why not say it goes UND's way........UND 27 SIU 24.

It will be interesting to see what the energy level will be in the Alerus on Saturday. Hopefully we make some big plays early to get things going.
-
Last year we probably have to throw it on 4th and 1, hopefully it's a much different story this year and we get a consistent push.

Last year we beat Montana State, and nearly beat Weber State with starting DL of Jaelen Johnson, Griffin Lickfeldt, and DeVore (taking from the Tom Miller article), Bennett was injured for a part of the year in 2019. We lost Bennett but everyone else is back and should have more weight on and they guys returning from 2019 should be improved. While I'm trying to be glass half full, it still concerns me and remains to be seen how well they can plug things up and not get pushed back.

Love hearing that he thinks the OL is one of the strengths of the team, I can't remember the last time that was the case.

I think for a lot of teams it's going to depend on how things go. For example, should we lose the opener and then lose to SDSU, and then get a 3rd loss by mid season, well at that point playoffs are pretty much out the window. I could then see the coaches getting younger players more reps than they normally would, and I would hope the do so. Nobody is losing out of a year of eligibility this year, so by the end of the year, depending on your record....may determine how hard you are really trying to win. Not that you aren't trying, but maybe not giving all of your studs as many reps, keep them healthy for the fall, getting young guys some experience to build depth for the fall. On the other hand, if you are winning.....you are going to pretty much play it out as regular season trying to keep winning and make the playoffs. That is my take on how it may play out.

Probably a combination of all of those, and the fact that it is February and below zero. I'm very glad there will be football next week and we are having a season, but it just feels odd. I think there was an article last fall somewhere about how FCS should always play in the spring so they can be showcased. Screw that, football is for the Fall, I wouldn't want this every year. Hopefully all of the tickets will be spoken for though, come next Saturday.

I'd think we'd have an updated 2 deep roster by Monday?

The OL has put 15 lbs back on, almost everyone back, all of them healthy so far I believe, one more year of experience.....I'm hoping this is the year the OL puts it all together. While we lost Bennet from Fall 2019 on the DL, we were so undersized. Most of those guys put on weight since then and should be more experienced, lets hope we see some improvement there as well. The fact that our OL, on paper, should be improved...gets me excited. Would be nice to see what Danny can do when we actually have a consistent running game.

Southern Illinois...first game is only ten days away. What are the early predictions as to how this game goes? So quiet in here......need something to talk about. They are picked ahead of us and should be a solid team. It will be a good test right out of the gate to give us an idea of where we are at. CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois was picked to finish fifth in the Missouri Valley Football Conference preseason poll released Wednesday, the highest the program has been picked to finish since the 2014 season. The No. 24 ranked Salukis are coming off a 7-5 season in 2019 and won their only game in the 2020 fall season when they beat No. 25 SEMO.

I just read the write up on the UNDFootball360 site.....I guess his twin brother grant has signed with NDSU. Talk about a divided family on game day! I'm glad we are in the MVFC and get to play NDSU every year so we can heat up that rivalry again and watch it play out on the field annually. Plus playing the South Dakota's schools every year. From the 360 article: An interesting tidbit that just broke this morning: Simon’s twin brother, Grant, just committed to NDSU for football. How neat is that?

Will be 7 QB's on the roster next fall, if you include Boltmann. 2 are PWO's though.

Not sure there is such a thing as.....leading the conference in Special Teams. Too many different variables and things to look at to quantify properly.

They should also keep some of the old original brick and use it as a fund raising type of thing. Some people may want to buy one of those old bricks for a few bucks a brick, this may have already been mentioned.

When it comes to kicking FG's, I think a kid either has it or he doesn't. Sure the coach can try and help with technique and what not, but either he is accurate or he isn't. Seems like a lot of our kickers from 1990 on that I remember, kicked as freshman and for the most part were pretty good right out of the gate. They didn't need to be coached up for two years first. We did have a pretty good run of about 25 years of always having a solid kicker and we probably took it for granted. Hope one of them this year can become pretty reliable. In previous years with kickers like Glass etc if we needed a 47 yard FG to win the game, I felt there was about a 75% chance they would nail it in the clutch. In that scenario now I'd feel like 15% chance. Right now if we had a 29 yard FG for the win I'd be thinking it's 50/50.

Yes, thanks for posting the article. VERY good to see that Waletzko appears healthy.

Thanks for posting that Riverhawk! Will be interesting to see if they continue to give Boltmann the 2nd string reps.

What did Miller have to say in his article today about the first practice? I don't have an online subscription to the Herald so it won't let me read it.
