I don't get why we have to have a nickname, and especially don't get why "that time is now." The 2 scare tactics being used to force a new name don't hold water. 1. I. don't believe the nonsense about losing out on countless $$$ because UND sweatshirts don't have a unicorn or sun dog on them. It could be argued alienating a large percentage of donors with a moronic nickname would be just as costly if not more so. 2. What in the wide wide world of sports could the NCAA do if we continued to have no nickname? I would like to see the NCAA rule mandating nicknames. Is there one? There is no way the NCAA could impose sanctions against UND for not having a nickname; their argument would essentially boil down to playing the role of Thought Police.... "Your Honor, Even though UND has no official nickname, we just know deep inside their minds they are still thinking they are the Fighting Sioux." Ridiculous.

That's probably attributed to people buying lifetime supplies of Sioux stuff. I also would like to see what this "big financial hit" is estimated to be if there is no new nickname. My guess is the number of donors that feel even further alienated by having some new nickname forced on them and thus quit giving or lower their amount, will outweigh selling a few extra sweatshirts that say "UND... <insert dumb nickname here>."

I agree. I would like to see what the nc$$ would do or try to do. I think the nc$$ wiuld eventually cave, as they woukd look ridiculous playing the role of Thought Police, and threatening sanctions for not having a nickname.

When we all hear the new nickname, and 98% of us think it sucks because it was not on our own short list, Green and White will all of a sudden look a lot more appealing, albeit too late.

Those of you that are coming to the meeting, first of all thank you for taking the time. And secondly, I hope you get the opportunity to voice your opinions about having no name. If the comeback is- the NC$$ will punish us, ask the committee for absolute proof of this. Is it written anywhere in NC$$ by laws that you must have a nickname or suffer consequences???
