  1. I completly agree! There is nothing wrong with bringing in a couple JUCO guys or a transfer here and there to fill in some holes, but 4-5 year players recruited from HS are the way to go. I am also really hoping that the new staff hits the recruiting trail hard, so we don't miss out on a entire recruiting class.
  2. Once again you have miss quoted me. Go read it again and you will see I said "some of you" not "everyone". Apparently I am arguing with someone so highly regarded that nobody is allowed to contradict your point. Go ahead and comment again, I refuse to discuss something with someone who doesn't get the point.
  3. Wow, someone doesn't read and comprehend very well. Did I say "every" FBS assistant? Did I say that UND was not in a top FCS conference? No, I did not! Where are you coming up with this mediocrity crap? Sugarcoat what the university does? How am I doing that? A list of Minnesota assistant salaries: Tracy Claeys, defensive coordinator - $320,000 Matt Limegrover, offensive coordinator - $305,000 Bill Miller, assistant head coach/linebackers - $200,000 Jeff Phelps, defensive line - $180,000 Jim Zebrowski, quarterbacks - $180,000 Rob Reeves, tight ends/H-backs - $145,000 Jay Sawvel, defensive backs/special teams - $145,000 Patrick Poore, receivers - $135,000 Brian Anderson, running backs - $135,000 http://www.mndaily.com/blogs/upon-further-review/2012/06/05/gophers-football-assistant-salaries-rank-among-big-ten%E2%80%99s-lowest
  4. Trust me, the Ag school will be getting a dose of reality over the next couple of years since Kill (unlike Brewster) is pulling in the best regional talent. The MVC will even out and possibly shift toward UNI or SDSU, while UND pulls in more and better regional talent. Although I am sure those in fantasy land at Moo U, think they will continue to win national championships forever.
  5. You are talking in circles. I think Bubba is a great choice and will turn the program around over the next couple of years. My point is that some people think that UND would be able to pull coaches from the FBS ranks, when those coaches are currently making more money and have more opportunity. I have seen people comment that UND should try to get someone from Kill's staff, but they obviously don't realize that U of M is second to last in coaches salary in the BIG10 and even position coaches make more than a HC at UND. The money available to coaches at the FBS level is significantly higher than FCS (Bohl 300k at NDSU / 1.5 at Wyo). If you want top coaches, you have to be willing to pay them. Personally, I think Bubba is a steal at $150k, considering his experience and connection to HS coaches in the midwest, along with his enthusiasm for UND. Give Bubba 2-3 years and he will put a product on the field that we will not only be proud of, but will also be able to compete with the Ag school to the south.
  6. 1. we are not currently a top FCS program, I did not say we could never be a top FCS program. 2. you are delusional to think you are going to bring in a FBS coach that makes 100k more in his current postion. 3. i did not say that we should expect to be bottom feeders and accept mediocrity. If you must, read my post again, then comment on what was said, not what you implied.
  7. Sorry, but I think a few of you are a bit delusional. First off, UND is not a "top FCS program". Secondly a "experienced FBS assistant" would have to take a significant pay cut to coach at UND and probably has opportunities to move up at the FBS level. Keep in mind that Bubba will make half of the new NDSU HC and less than a position coach at any BIG10 school. The fact of the matter is that Bubba is a good coach with good experience and connections across the midwest (after recruiting ND,SD,MN,WI,ILL,IA). Faison interviewd multiple qualified candidates and made the decision on the best fit for the UND.
  8. If my memory serves me right, Roger Thomas was announced as the new HC just before Christmas.
  9. So, it is ok for you to take opportunities in your career but not ok for a coach at UND?
  10. When did the university make these comments? Didn't realize that UND was quoted.
  11. I don't feel like Dale and Bubba turned their back on UND. They had a opportunity to move up to D-1AA and make more money. You really can't blame someone for wanting to further their career.
  12. I don't get a say in who gets the job, but if I did, my vote would be for Bubba.
  13. Ok, I have been trying to be as patient as possible in the hiring process, but this is starting to get ridiculious. I am assuming that they new Muss was getting let go and had a short list of potiential candidates, then came the "public job posting" period. There isn't any reason the announcement should have taken this long and will only put the new staff at a even greater disadvantage in the recruiting process. With so much uncertainty and so little time to recruit, this is setting the program back further than it needs to be.
  14. I am seriously concerned about this recruiting class. The 2014 class is widely considered to be one of the best the state of Minnesota has ever had and the coaching change could cause us to miss out on some talent across the midwest (mostly because this process took so long). Players quitting/transfering and a weak recruiting class could make for a few lean years in the win column. I guess the good news is that if Bubba is hired, he has lots of connections with HS coaches across ND,SD, MN, IA and Ill, so he may be able to pull a few guys in. Hopefully the decison is made soon and the new coach can get to work on recruiting asap.
  15. Gelinske was fun to watch and I won't argue much with Dressler or Hardin, but IMO Tracy Martin and Dan Graf definitely deserve to be in the top 5.
  16. Love the list, but I wouldn't want a quitter on my team. Just my opinion.
  17. I am VERY good friends with the booster club president at a top 5 HS program in the south and he told me that the head coach gets 100k, a car and home. He does not teach at all, he only coaches football and strength training for football.
  18. Since when does pay determine your ability to coach? So if we would have paid Muss twice as much he would have done twice as good?
  19. There are plenty of high school head coaches across the country that are more than qualified to coach at any college level and there are also college coaches that should not be coaching at the college level (Tim Brewster comes to mind). Just because you are a D-III or high school coach, doesn't mean that you don't know the game as well or how to teach, game plan or handle personalities. People get so wrapped up on which level someone has been coaching, but I am more interested in if they understand how to run a program, create positive relationships with players/recruits and game plan for their next opponent. Many high school coaches choose not to move beyond high school for various reasons (most because they don't want to be uproot their family).
  20. No offense to those that have already been mentioned, but in my opninion Tracy Martin is by far the best WR that UND has ever seen.
  21. No, let me apologize for my comments. Going forward I will try to only read the message board without commenting. Sorry if I offended you are anyone reading with my opinions/comments. I will delete my account to avoid this in the future.
