  1. As a coach, I would not be willing to roll the dice on a $60,000 - $120,000 scholarship for a kid that could possibly never play or have a lengthy recovery. I would rather give a preferred walk on and scholarship him after he has completely recovered and proven that he is back to normal. When you have a limited number of scholarships, you don't want to use one in the hopes that he will be 100% again. Remember, Adrian Peterson is a freak, so thinking that he will be ready to practice in 10 months, is wishful thinking. With that said, I would love to see Leach come to UND.
  2. I am very familiar with Nick Leach and love the way he plays. Not sure he would play RB in college, but a athlete that good will find a place on the field. Honestly, I wouldn't scholarship anyone with a injury until they have fully recovered, so a preferred walk on will probably be what he gets from anyone.
  3. Using code words like 'facetious" should make it harder for the NDSU trolls to figure out what we are talking about.
  4. His speed looks good, as do his route running and blocking. Great pick up for us!
  5. The recruits that I would like to see us get: RB - Raymonte Maynard QB - Connor Wilkie OL - Adam Stiner, Jack Vasko, Landon Carney DL - Preston Woods, Drew Greely LB - Malik Bondon, Blake Weber DB - Tim Gordon, Mike Warner WR - Deion Harris, Chris Larson Athletes - Jamien Hampton, Will Daniels I could be missing someone, but from what I have seen statistically and on film, this would be a good group.
  6. For a small fee, I will take over the recruiting!
  7. The longer you wait, the longer it takes to hire a new coach and staff. Do it now and if you can hire someone over the next 2 weeks then we still have a decent shot at having a good recruiting class.
  8. I hope that we don't miss out on one of the best recruiting classes because the AD waits too long to make a decision.
  9. I would have to agree on this one too.
  10. I just went to look up this kid's stats, and you are right. After seeing how good his stats were, I looked him up on hudl. Why haven't we offered him? He looks like he could start for us right away. 6'5, 210lbs 2055 yards passing with 18 TD's in 8 games (2013) 1711 yards passing with 20 TD's in 8 games (2012)
  11. I think that the reality is that very few upper end recruits are going to seriously consider us with the uncertainty of the coaching staff, especially if they have other offers from more established programs.
  12. You make some some very good points, but I don't think the "sales pitch" is about the current players, I think it is about what resources you have, and vision of what UND can be once again. The pitch can be about how you will work with that coach to help him build a elite program from scratch and that the fans will give him time to clean up the mess left behind (very little immediate pressure to win).
  13. "Sad Sack"? You obviously don't know anything about the current Minnesota coaching staff. There are at least 2-3 coaches I would take from Minnesota over someone that knows nothing about recruiting the midwest.
  14. Having a strong running game isn't "smashmouth" football. Running a power offense that relies solely on a running game is "smashmouth". NDSU has the ability to run or throw, but when the defense is giving up large chunks on the ground, why throw. The point I was trying to make is you win in the trenches with a strong OL/DL and we obviously do not have that.
  15. NDSU doesn't play "smash mouth", they have built a O-Line that is dominant with the run and pass. This isn't about running the ball or "playstation", this is about having the talent to accomplish the goal. Don't get me wrong, we do have some talent, but over the past 6 seasons, Muss has failed to bring in the talent on the O-Line, thus we don't run the ball well and our pass protection is terrible. You can have the best QB,RB and WR's in the world but winning comes in the trenches. Obviously you want to recruit playmakers on both sides of the ball, but if it was me, I would be searching high and low for the best OL/DL players that I could get my hands on.
  16. I think the drop off comes from multiple sources. The play calling and offensive adjustments are partly to blame, having a veteran QB always helps with setting the protection properly and knowing the receivers. Remember that when the fish stinks, it usually stinks at the head first.
  17. In my opinion, if you aren't on the right track after 5-6 years, you probably picked the wrong track. If the AD doesn't do something now or by the end of the month, he is screwing the next coaching staff and will have a major failure with this recruiting class. I don't want just Muss gone, I want a new staff, to get rid of the current dysfunction.
  18. Well said!
  19. I don't think this weeks loss will push and recruits to commit.
  20. Where you are wrong is that I do have information that I can't discuss in a public forum. I do agree with some of your points but the excuse that we are only 2 years in is just a excuse. As for your sarcasm ("Why our coaches allow players to fumble or throw interceptions or miss tackles is just awful coaching"), it in fact is a coaches responsibility to teach ball security, reading defenses and proper tackling technique. If a QB or WR make the wrong read, that falls directly on the coaching staff.and they need to spend more time with those players to ensure that everyone is on the same page. This also goes for offensive linemen who don't adjust to blitzing LB's or anyone else on the field. Coaching is teaching and if you feel that we have the talent to compete at a high level and aren't, then the only other problem is that players are not understanding what their coach is teaching. I too will support UND football, just as I have for the past 35 years, but I am frustrated with how poorly we have performed in recent years, along with some of the questionable recruiting. I think it speaks volumes that we have made 60 offers thus far and have zero verbals (shows we are not the 1st choice for anyone).
  21. Without going into any detail, I do have much more than 2% of the facts. Secondly, by "passion" I mean taking care of every single detail when it comes to your football team. Players acting appropriately on the sidelines, working hard in the classroom, making sure they know their playbook and executing on game day. I don't mind losing if you are playing hard and get beat by a better team, but losing to a inferior team is unacceptable. Also, I personally don't care if they own a home or live in the community, this isn't 5th grade football, this is NCAA D-1AA and they are getting paid to perform. Just as they get a contract extension with more money for doing well, they are also aware that the "axe" may fall if they do not perform well. I am not trying to be negative, I am pointing out the obvious short comings of the staff and as part of their job, they need to figure out how to correct the problem. If they can't, then we need to bring someone in that can sell everything that UND has to offer including the proud football tradition.
  22. Great post! I think the part that people are most concerned with is the ability for the current coaching staff to "sell" that to the right kids and bring the program back, or at least that is my major concern.
  23. I think you first have to understand that there is passion and support or nobody would be commenting one way or the other. I think most of us are frustrated with the lack of passion from our coaching staff and tired of watching the program go south. You can call it "fair weather", but who wouldn't get tired of going to games that we get blown out in and see players screwing around on the sideline while we are getting out butts kicked.
  24. I'm not sure I would bring in any recruits during this season, unless you want to show them how quickly they will get on the field.
  25. I am assuming that we are interested in him as a LB?
