  1. Personally I think he has done a terrible job recruiting, so I don't have any idea why he would give himself a chest bump.
  2. I get the feeling that some of you are living in fantasy land. We have almost zero shot at getting most of the coaches mentioned, unless of course we are going to be paying the new HC in the $300,000 range.
  3. Maybe he just wanted to give himself a recruiting chest bump?
  4. I heard about the tweet, didn't hear who it was.
  5. who gave a verbal?
  6. Does anyone think Tibesar, Claeys or Bollinger would take a drastic pay cut to coach a lower level?
  7. If we want a coach like you are describing, you need to pony up more than $150k. I do NOT believe bring in a coach from the south with help you bring in recruits from that area. When you consider that most the the MIAC coaches are making $90k at a D-III school, why would a OC/DC from a FCS school take a HC job in GF for $150k? Do you honestly believe they would be willing to move to the frozen tundra of ND to make $20k more? Hell, some of the high school coaches in the south make 6 figures.
  8. I don't think they command respect if they didn't get the respect from the current players. Sorry, but I personally would rather have a completely new staff and no carry over from the previous dysfunction.
  9. I love Brooks and would love to see him come to UND, but as a OC. Using Richard Petino is a poor example. Richard Petino was a head coach that had succuss, not a position coach with 2 years of experience. I am sure that Brooks would do a incredible job recruiting, but for him to take over a entire program, hire a new staff, recruit and sign players all within the next 60-80 days and without any experience? I am all about a getting someone on the way up, but this might be a bit more than he is ready for at this point in his coaching career.
  10. He can give himself a "chest bump" if he wants, but I would prefer to have a completely new staff, with a new direction, new ideas, goals and thought process. Time to move onward and upward.
  11. I could not disagree with this thought process more. Recruiting coordinator for Alabama? I am pretty sure a trained monkey could recruit for a program that has the tradition and championship rings that Alabama has. He family doesn't coach for him, so it doesn't matter what his dad and brother have done. He has zero connection in the midwest with HS coaches. Anyone can "mirror" there program after Nick Saben, but we aren't sitting in the middle of the SEC with tons of D-I players within shouting distance. Remember this, Tim Brewster was a "recruiting genius" for Texas and had ties to the NFL, and look how that panned out for Minnesota.
  12. Lance Leipold is in a state that only has 1 college that offers scholarships. Caruso not only has to compete with all of the MIAC schools, he has to compete with 8 regional D-II schools, 3 of which are ranked in the top 12 nationally.
  13. We have no chance at getting anyone from Kill's staff. They have been coaching together for 20 years and unless someone is willing to offer some big money, you won't be able to break them apart.
  14. All I can say is that I am glad you aren't the one picking the next HC. That "guy" you are referring to lost 2 games by a total of 13 points and was ranked 16th in the country. If you want a "proven head coach" I hear Chris Mussman is available.
  15. I love Bollinger, but he has 1 year of coaching college football and 1 year of HS coaching. You would rather have someone with 2 years of coaching experience over someone who has taken his team to a national championship and made the playoffs multiple times?
  16. "Go big"? So you would prefer to have a failed D-1 coach or a OC/DC that would use us as a stepping stone for his next job? I would rather have someone that is interested in building the program from the ground up for long term success, rather than a guy who gets us over .500 and moves on to something bigger and better. I know there are the snobs out there that turn their nose up at anyone who isn't a "big name", but I want a winner. How many of you had honestly ever heard of Jerry Kill before he became the HC at Minnesota? Give me a guy like Glenn Caruso that is firmly intrenched in the midwest, has morals, values and holds coaches and players accountable. You can have the "big name" coach, I will take the guy that recruits his butt off, has players that will break down walls for him and understands how to pull every ounce out of the people around him. ok, my rant is over now.
  17. Although a coaching change could hurt, a new staff would have the ability to bring in the type of players they want to build around. Maybe some new faces talking to recruits can get a couple of kids to reconsider?
  18. I my mind Caruso is by far the best and most likely. Coaching at a D-III level does not mean you know less than a D-I coach. I know HS coaches that are more than qualified to coach any level of college but choose not to move their families. I have also met more than a handful of D-I and D-II coaches that were not qualified to hold the clipboard for a HS coach. There are a couple of things that I really like about Caruso. First, I love his ability to bring in some very good talent to UST while having 0 scholarships and no indoor stadium ect. Secondly he has relationships with many of the HS coaches across MN,WI,ND,SD, IA. Lastly, I love his passion for the game, his program and the kids that he is involved with developing. Bollinger is a great guy and a good coach, but asking him to take over a program with 1 year of HS and 1 year of college coaching under his belt would be asking for too much.
  19. It has happened before and it will happen again.
  20. It will win a few recruits, that is a fact. It will for no other reason than to show the commitment to the program. Of course, it will not be the only reason a recruit comes to play, but it won't hurt.
  21. Nice find! Guess I should have looked at hudl instead of Youtube. All 3 are good athletes and you could make a case for any of them as a QB. I guess it would depend on which offense the new staff would be running, which would determine which QB you would want to bring in.
  22. I live in the metro and have seen him play a couple times. I have also seen Perra, Studsrud, Meidtke, Rooney and Green. Of the QB's I have watched, he impressed me the most and thought he would look great in kelly green. I have also went out of my way to pump Leech out of East Ridge (too bad for the knee injury), because I feel he would be a great addition as well. Sorry if my opinions bother you.
  23. I would definitely be in favor of Caruso!
  24. I was just surfing around looking for highlight videos of Studsrud, Perra and Wilkie, when I ran across this. Didn't find anything recent on Perra and Studsrud.
  25. Typically a new head coach will want to bring in his own staff.
