  1. Darian C is playing again. Don’t know about Bryn N. The second half of the season has been a disaster. But the playoffs are good experience for the freshman. They have a chance against PUFW, but almost none after that.
  2. NDSU and ORU both lost so UND will head to Denver as the fifth seed facing PUFW.
  3. NAU beat FBS UTEP and then their wheels came of when they lost their star QB Cookus and they got trounced by Mo St. NAU has a psycho record because of injuries to key players. They easily could have won their game against EWU.
  4. Here are video highlights from a Panther perspective. https://mkepanthers.com/news/2018/11/10/mens-basketball-panthers-comeback-falls-short-at-final-buzzer-63-60.aspx
  5. Nice road win irrespective that it’s a Horizon League team. Weird that I would be routing for strength ( road victories) in the Summit League RPI ( which now has another name). In the past, a road non conference win was rare. Perhaps this young team can begin a new tradition.
  6. Agree but the coaching staff just reeks, as last week left a very bitter taste.. Happy for the players.
  7. Portland St started the season badly as they had two FBS opponents trounce them, Nevada and Oregon. They then lost to Idaho and Montana St and their season was seemingly over. But they had a schedule of weak Big Sky teams and Montana and they have feasted on them. Portland State has been on the rise since the first half of the season and UND doesn’t have the offensive weapons now, so PSU could Key on the run game.
  8. The CAA has six teams with three losses that can potentially qualify. But two can be knocked out next weekend, as Elon plays Maine and James Madison against Towson. But Stony Brook and Delaware can lose too. The Southern Conference might get three, but the Southland and OVC don’t deserve even one ( but they have autobids). The good thing is UND hasn’t been blown out by an FCS school yet. Other four or five loss teams have been.
  9. Using this one. http://www.compughterratings.com/FCS/rankings
  10. At least 7 of those schools were Ivy League and the MEAC had one. So that’s 30th with a couple teams with losing recorded ahead of us.
  11. Is it possible the MVFC only gets two in, NDSU and SDSU? Ind St is 6-4 but has to play a 5-5 W Illinois. Assume that is essentially playoff game. 5-5 UNI plays Mo St and 5-5 Ill St plays Youngstown for maybe the playoffs.
  12. Who to win? Idaho or Montana. Montana would probably be eliminated and Idaho probably is already.
  13. UND got swept by USD today by a combined score of 75-59. UND will still make the Summit tournament if either NDSU loses to USD or if ORU loses to Omaha, both games Sunday.
  14. The first probable collegiate basketball game was according to the NCAA between Hamline and the Minnesota State School of Agriculture in St. Paul. https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2016-02-09/possible-first-intercollegiate-basketball-game-was-played-feb
  15. Was there ever a Minnesota A&M? The campus was the supposedly in St Paul campus the Uof M near the fairgrounds. Only saw a reference to it from this source. It used to be what Texas A&M is now to Texas but supposedly combining the two saved money or something. U of M is much bigger than most Big Ten schools even and is both a flagship and a land grant. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/minnesota-am/
  16. Appears someone will buy the Coyotes in 2019 and keep them in the Phoenix area. https://www.thefourthperiod.com/pagnotta/ownership-change-coming-in-arizona
  17. Know the bison trolls and other usual subjects will swoop down and say, “What does a student newspaper know?” But even a student newspaper sports editor knows that one has to move another conference or eve to another Division if there isn’t teams to play. It’s not brain surgery. But those trolls and others have said that before when a sportswriter said that a CWU DI invite was coming. The Big Sky can’t handle more additions like CWU and Dixie St and even Metro St without splitting, but Southpaw is the expert here so I’ll naturally will defer to him. https://cwuobserver.com/12487/sports/opinion-cwu-football-to-stay-or-leave-the-gnac/ Why hasn’t their administration dropped football instead of pouring millions into an upgraded field. Their admin must be so stupid according to troll logic. Maybe Humboldt St knew they would be without any other DI football in the NW, and having no other options, dropped fb themselves.
  18. Just love the River Walk at San Antonio. A lot of things to see (like the Alamo) and do and miles of shopping and entertainment places along the way. San Diego might be building a new arena soon. Coronado Island, Old Town and Mission Valley are all great.
  19. An article on App St and Ga Southern, who moved up to FBS on the same day and are both making waves in FBS. https://www.journalnow.com/sports/asu/app-trail-karl-benson-on-app-state-s-addition-to/article_e7532876-dd1d-11e8-9f18-3b339561c238.html
  20. Pitt has added women’s lacrosse for 2022. Why report it here? https://pittsburghpanthers.com/news/2018/11/1/general-pitt-athletics-to-add-varsity-womens-lacrosse.aspx The addition of a women’s sport leaves open the Title IX possibility to start a men’s hockey team. A feasibility study of hockey has been rumored previously. Arizona St added women’s lax and triathlon to remedy its Title IX situation with men’s hockey.
  21. The play not to go on 4th and 1 at the Vandals 43 was so illuminating. It is not like a punt with this team is 100% risk free and the defense soon gave up the yards back to the same spot anyway. Our own coaches don’t know their own risk and reward. The punt unit risks a block nearly 10% of the time and would be a major game changer. But they looked on it as a sure thing. That time the punt worked but the next time it was blocked for a TD. At that pace, never punt again but go for it on 4th down and let the defense come up with a big play.
  22. I’m the type that doesn’t want to get rid of competent people in real roles. But Bubba has seemed to exceeded his fb potential as HC. Bubba just needed to make hard decisions years ago. Maintain that neither him or Faison ever saw that light.
  23. It was just an example. But people that aren’t standouts merely average in one technical job can be absolutely outstanding executive in another and vice versa. People are gifted differently and a good AD and HC understands that.
  24. Move Schmidt to HC, Bubba to DC and Freud to OC. The staff needs to be shaken up and new blood inserted. It won’t happen, but someone needs to be an executive as HC.
  25. NDSU has had a history of quickly getting rid of football coaches that didn’t serve them (Babich, who got an NFL assistant job). That permanently damaged their entire program! NDSU realized that Babich was not HC material even though he was outstanding at Xs and Os. Some people are great at Xs and Os, but there are not leaders in a battle for conquest. Bubba is very good at being a coordinator, but hasn’t shown that it translates to being a HC, which is executive position. Look at Duluth. Nielsen gets a lot of grief on this board, but he is a proven executive. Gets rid of people that are even personal friends. That’s a rare talent and often can’t be taught.
