  1. The future facilities must take into account ND’s future outlook. The ND public school enrollment will increase more than any other state by 2025, 27%. https://www.forbes.com/sites/chuckdevore/2019/01/21/a-connection-between-state-income-taxes-and-public-school-enrollment-growth/#7b807df22f90 There is still a need for technical people in the oil patch. A bill may pass the ND legislature that if STEM majors stay in ND, they don’t have to pay a year of tuition: https://www.grandforksherald.com/news/education/4560124-bill-would-offer-free-year-stem-student-nd-colleges UND just upped the ante on Big Data, by hiring six more professors and converting the Budge bldg to Computer Science. Aerospace Studies used to house Computer Science, so this is a big change. Arguably, this is where NDSU has helped the Fargo economy (Great Plains Software bought by Microsoft) and UND has lagged way behind. http://blogs.und.edu/und-today/2018/12/big-day-for-big-data/
  2. So Shanley and St Mary's didn't have their own teams? Fake news. The Fargo Angels are set up by the Catholic parents if I’m not mistaken. Catholic schools in ND basically have had major donors now and in the past who pay for ice time. Two divisions adds another opportunity, playing the big schools will end demoralization, and enhances enrollment.
  3. Like this. Legacy, a new WF HS, and maybe a Minot HS may be coming aboard. With another class, maybe B St Mary's or schools like B Shiloh Christian or Minot Ryan can start teams.
  4. UConn and St Louis But the Big East has floated going with only 11 schools to get a true double round robin. The Big East will likely guard its private status and UConn wasn’t a threat to that in the past. The Big East really values it’s MSG tournament and UConn only cements that more. Creighton would likely be the only major Wichita St booster. They wanted the Shockers before it went AAC.
  5. UConn is probably next in line for the ACC, but that could take decades. BC and Syracuse may actually oppose them there. The B1G requires an AAU school, which UConn isn’t. The Conn legislature is spending massively to upgrade UConn’s research capability, but that can take generations to be AAU. The American Conference has been promising P5 status ever since it started, so the schools spend like it will happen but it hasn’t happened and probably won’t. The AAC will get a raise, but it will fall $15million short of what every ACC school gets. The Big East and fb independence is the far safest way and it doesn’t eliminate its candidacy from the ACC. Complicating thing further was that UConn made hockey big time when things still looked OK in the Big East. Their promised large rink on campus has been cut to only a couple thousand seats now contrary to Hockey East’s demands.
  6. UConn thought it was a perpetual P5 as part of the Big East, only to be screwed by it so-called friends Pitt, Syracuse, UWV, and BC. It got demoted to the G5 and lost sweepstakes for the ACC to Louisville and the B12 to UWV. P5 only is secured if the networks say you are. It refused to play UMass for years, and now that’s nearly the only school that brings in a semblance of a rivalry, as UConn fans don’t get excited about Tulsa, Tulane, SMU and Memphis. Going to P5 status right from FCS is financially dangerous and never have suggested it contrary to you and Goon’s debased thinking. Downsizing finally to a G5 budget and being part of the Big East’s much larger TV contracts are legitimate ways to to financially make it as a non-P5 school.
  7. https://www.davisenterprise.com/sports/aggie-football-maintaining-the-lofty-perch/ “This School is just too big and prestigious to stay at FCS”, says a UCDavis big booster. Maybe UC Davis gets five years at the lower level of FBS and then they move to the MWC Poly and Sac St will at least follow Davis through the initial steps..
  8. UND seems to be performing better lately as Stewart return has been great and improving his output and Rebecca keeps improving. Next up NDSU on Sat at the BSA. NDSU lost to DU by 15 today for DU’s first Summit win.
  9. Two private schools that have grown impressively over the last decade in NC are High Point U and Campbell U, which are now both in the Big South. Could see both try to up their game to the CAA if it is has openings. High Point doesn’t have fb yet, but some other CAA schools like UNC-Wilmington, Drexel, C of Charleston, and Hofstra don’t have fb either. Campbell just started scholarship football, but see them continuously improving like Elon has. Here is what HPU has done recently. It borrowed a lot of money in addition to receiving many gifts, but managed to make it attractive for students from the Northeast money set. http://www.highpoint.edu/blog/2019/01/continuous-growth/
  10. “Permanent” can be for 30years or so.. After that, it’s at the discretion of the U. When Ray Richards was first started, south or east or west there was nothing. Now it’s surrounded by apartments, medical and commercial developments. Hyslop was a gift (or at least partially), but is now scheduled for demolition. Loved that place and it used to be the showcase for ND tournaments and US Presidents, but now it has outlived it’s day. Change is very hard for Grand Forkians. Seems they want everything to remain the same like a museum. But a prospering city keeps only limited landmarks if they have smart development.
  11. Have to ask is a permanent golf course an appropriate gift for University? Maybe in the South it is. But up to six months it is unusable in GF and it is prime real estate. Valley, Lincoln and GF CC courses are not. Perhaps if they added frisbee golf, an outdoor workout area, cross country skiing and more nature walks like along the bike path on the north English coulee, and softball and baseball diamonds, it would make much more sense for the faculty and students that aren’t into golfing. If golfing is so important to attract faculty and students, UND could get reduced cost passes at Lincoln or Valley courses. The golf crowd has tremendous power beyond their numbers, probably because they are more likely to be high givers. Always thought Ray Richards should be developed by UND when the need arises and other cheaper land further west could be made into a UND course with many more attractions. It seems selfish just for a golf course.
  12. Bottineau already co-ops with Rugby. Watford City was scheduled to go NDHSAA in hockey. They may have the nicest rink for a HS team. They could co-op with Sidney Mt for numbers. Crosby and Langdon are the only other non-cities that play Jr Gold. SD teams are relatively decent, maybe at the level of Mandan, but that state HS league still hasn’t authorized hockey.
  13. Have to give Mayville-Portland-CG-Hillsboro-CV-Hatton-Northwood-Finley-Sharon a shoutout for going 11-2-1 so far. Granted, they have played some JV teams, but their Minnesota record against teams like Morris-Benson, Bagley-Fosston, Ely, and Moose Leake is like 6-2, if one counts a loss to Wahp-Breck as a Minnesota school. Hallock was their other loss http://ndhighschoolhockey.com/NorthDakotaBoysHighSchoolHockey/teampage.aspx?teamid=2235 There really should be a Class B in hockey and only enrollments over 800 should be eligible for Class A.
  14. The OVG group manages 26 major arenas, all of them being NHL and NBA homes. They haven’t messed around with being a primary college tenant, and Austin is an attractive NHL market no matter how you poo poo it.. OVG already runs the Spurs arena down the road in San Antonio and wouldn’t want a another competitor taking event space if they didn’t have major plans. OVG is building the news arenas in Seattle and for the Islanders to expand their empire. They have close contact with the NHL and NBA head offices due to the nature of their business. Wouldn’t bet against OVG bringing an NHL team to Austin is all I’m saying. You are one of the posters that said Vegas would be a crap market and look up happened. Virgin pro markets get very enthused about their new ream. Yuppies with money flock to Austin for high paying jobs, not Vegas except for long weekends. http://www.oakviewgroup.com/alliance/
  15. Champaign hasn’t started on its downtown arena/hotel/convention center/apartments yet, but it’s getting closer. http://www.news-gazette.com/news/local/2018-09-11/downtown-champaign-mega-project-covers-whole-nine-yards.html Iowa’s potential rink is under construction in Coralville. https://www.thegazette.com/subject/sports/hawkeyes/university-of-iowa-hawkeyes-club-hockey-team-ahca-20180927
  16. Shanks talked up UND and Grand Forks as an incredible experience at the Final Four. He also was willing to donate his COA to help save UND baseball. The comments on her seem to more like small town farmers angry that someone made a right decision which moved him out of town.
  17. Wasn’t he already a grad student at Loyola? Granted, people can get all kinds of grad degrees.
  18. Noticed that the USD message board has now capitulated to the smaller size. The renovation gives fatter people room now to go comfortably to a game. People in the 70’s were more slender. That Dome can be much more easily expanded than the FargoDome. It doesn’t have a fabric roof now as it’s metal and doesn’t have corner beams like the FargoDome. No wonder USD seemingly supports Sanford’s Augie plans.
  19. What was Carson Shanks doing on the bench? Noticed him in the Russ Hons pictures.
  20. Just last year, the Atlantic Sun lost USC-Upstate to the Big South, and in return the Big South lost Liberty to the Atlantic Sun. It may have happened over two years, but in essence was a trade. So much for you being the realignment guru here. The Big South is a group of mostly small private schools and the ASun is moving away from that model. The Atlantic Sun could be the beginning for an FBS league with Kennesaw St and the Florida public’s. Expect Jacksonville St to go there from the OVC and Lipscomb to move from the ASun to OVC. Stony Brook and Albany to go to the ASun and NJIT to move to America East. By trading, it means going to more appropriate conferences for geography/cost effectiveness vs aspirational.
  21. USD averaged 9345 last year. Those numbers must be added. The USD board has the right capacity.
  22. Utah now will have seven DI schools. Minnesota, with 2.5 million more people than Utah, has one. U of Utah BYU Utah St Weber St Utah Valley St Southern Utah Dixie St
  23. Despite denials, Oakland U is in serious negotiations to buy the Palace of Auburn Hills, presumably for hockey. https://detroitsportsnation.com/breaking-oakland-university-serious-talks-buy-palace-auburn-hills/ddrysdale/10/26/2018/197626/
  24. Dixie St has an official invitation to DI and will start competing in 2020. https://www.wacsports.com/general/2018-19/releases/20190111mx6862
  25. Here’s the CFP and bowl distribution to the G5 conferences: AAC $34.8 million MWC $30.4 mill Sun Belt $27.2 CUSA $25.6 MAC $24.0 Here is the cash haul by the two conferences playing in the FCS championship game: MVFC $0 Big Sky $0
