ND Basketball Team Almost Wins Game With 2 Players
SiouxVolley replied to siouxjoy's topic in Non-collegiate sports
History repeating itself. Chuck Klostermann wrote a national story about how United Tribes beat Bottineau with only three guys at the end. He witnessed this game in Wahpeton at the state JC tournament when he was still in high school. -
O'Day said it was either FBS or DII. Guess the Griz are going DII then.
-
Why would he have wanted to shmooze the stream yellow crowd?

Idaho in the Big Sky would be the only orphan team in an FCS conference. UMASS could join the CAA, as it would be a better fit than the MAC, and become an orphan. NMSU could join the Big Sky, Southland, or the MVC and become an orphan. An FCS conference with an FBS team could be allowed to move up under rules that may be proposed after March 10th.
-
Sure. The P5 conference get out weighted votes. They can change the system to fit their liking. There are not adequate lower tier G5 conferences now - only the MAC and Sun Belt. If they allow conferences with orphan teams to move up to FBS, the P5 will seem generous. But the main motive is to get cheaper guarantee games as the G5 guarantees based on supply. Most of the P5 didn't outlaw FCS games without an intent to change the rules.

Ames, Iowa City, Fargo, Madison, Lawrence, Manhattan (KS), East Lansing, and others were well below and out of our league.

So Bresciani is faux outraged that NDSU has a racist school song, with "Redmen" in the lyrics. Guess he didn't notice while singing it in Frisco the past five years? Did none of the trolls here notice either? Or they intentionally looked the other way other throwing so much garbage north? Color me surprised. I thought there school song just referenced outhouses and bison *SS holes with their tails up in the air.

A new study by www.citylab.com shows that Grand Forks in now 10th in per capita venture capital funding. That puts Grand Forks in the same league as Austin, Raleigh, San Diego and Seattle, which is tremendous. The UAVS park can be thanked.

Idaho holds its nose academically among the Sun Belch. They are only there as a place to park the football team for four years until the Big Sky is ready to implement it's plan. NMSU used to be a full member Sun Belt team, but they much prefer a western or Texas based league.
-
Chances that Idaho gets expelled from the Sun Belt: 99.9% Chances that NMSU gets expelled from the Belt: 85% The P5 will use the Idaho expulsion as a way to show their compassion (but still screw the G5 and reduce P5 expenses). To bison trolls: have you seen the Five Phases of Montana States stadium expansion? Is that why AD Fields was let go because their wasn't enough progress on expansion?

The Big 10 wanted to change the season, but the other P5 conferences were against it. The baseball draft is in June, and extending the season beyond that will make more players opt of of college by going to the pros directly. MLB won't change their draft date because they need to staff their rookie leagues. Also, college players often play in a summer baseball college league, like the Northlands League in Minnesota. The new Vikings Stadium will see a lot of use next winter for baseball, as did it's predecessor the Metrodome.

With UND down to 11th in Pairwise now, does it need to win the WCHA tournament to get an NCAA berth?
-
Ben Reznicek is the lead off hitter and is batting .500. A JC transfer from Sioux Falls. Brett Harrison is a catcher from Winnipeg that is a key RBI guy now. Miles Lewis is from Hudson, WI, and plays OF is a key new face. Brensehan is the CF from Casselton ND that made several key running catches. Muckenhirn, Delano, Mn, is probably on scouting lists now.

That doesn't count Foundation athletic endowments giving or royalties on Fighting Sioux gear. Royalties are next to nothing now, but those weren't designated for athletics anyway.
-
Champions Club gifted $2.8 million last year. It has risen every year from when the REA's first year, when $1.3 million was gifted. This year, UND can't give as much institutionally to support athletics. Not sure where the money will come from.

As a team that played outside for the first time this year in Los Angeles, doesn't have a full battery of scholarships, this might be the greatest DI performance ever by UND. The recruiting is awesome (thank Devillers for that?) the team is disciplined and makes and executes great baseball decisions. Wonder how long Dodson will last here? Next year, UND should have early season games in the new Vikings Stadium, so it's not like they are perpetually doomed to not have an early season field. Maybe they can even be on Fox Sports North then? Crazy to think Lockhert, DeGagne, and Calvo are the only seniors. My dream baseball conference of UND, NDSU, SDSU, Cal Poly, UCDavis, and Sac State may actually come to pass as part of a Big Sky FBS conference.

The State Tournament Bismarck vs Davies Central vs Century Red River vs Dickinson Minot vs West Fargo Red River is still unbeaten. How long has it been since a school went undefeated and won the championship.
-
The HPC couldn't hurt, although they still use the Hyslop some. Playing great fundamental baseball with few mental lapses. Great coaching too.
-
UND beat Virginia today 10-6. The worm seems to be turning on this program.
-
UND wins the series! 5-4 final!
-
Got out of men on 1st and 2nd jam with one out. 5-4 UND. To top of 9th.
-
UND caught a guy stealing and forced a run down. That was a big play as the batter hit a deep single, but the next batter flied out. DeGagne is out now. Still 5-3 UND going to top of the 7th.
-
UND had a double steal and then scored because they averted a double play. 5-3 UND to start to bottom of the 5th.
-
UND back in the lead with an RBI double, 4-3. Forced a pitching change in the 5th.
-
DeGagne got out of the inning with just a Sac fly and two strike outs. 3-3. UND out hitting USC 5-2.
