Iceland beat England in the knockout round of the Euros. Maybe the biggest upset an any stage in the world. Iceland has under half the population of North Dakota. Leicester City won the Premiere League this year, coming out of no where, in what may be the biggest upset ever for a soccer club team. Leicester City was a third tier participant just seven years ago. AFC Bournemouth made the Premiere League this season and managed to stay. There are a club in a city not much bigger than Grand Forks and play in a stadium not much bigger than the Alerus. The thought of Bournemouth being in the Premiere League would have got their fans locked up a few short years ago. If UND has financial backing from alumni, why not make a move up?

Missed over a 100 years of playoff champions for the big boys, but the Press still declared a champion and presented a trophy. Guess you bizon were watching video reruns of wins against the Jacks.

The above league was close to what Idaho's consultant laid out for a new FBS WAC. He didn't include the Texas or MVC teams but he did include NAU.
-
So how does this look for an FBS league WAC North UND USD? Montana Montana St Idaho EWU WAC South NMSU Sam Houston St Lamar Wichita St (fb only) Missouri St (fb only) UMKC (no football) UTRGV (fb with the Big SKy) Denver or GCU Chicago St will probably drop sports by 2018. The California FCS schools can join the WAC later, when Wichita leaves. Wichita St and Mizzou St just want to get their FBS feet wet and then move on after a couple years to a higher G5 league. Then NDSU and SDSU can replace them as their such basketball schools according to their fans. The other WAC schools like UVU, Bake, Seattle, and maybe Grand Canyon move to the Big Sky.
-
So if Bresciani says that NDSU is in a sweet spot for football, and that no FBS or conference change is impending, does UND have to follow his lead, or can it go it's own way. Wichita St is going to start FBS somewhere. The WAC is the only conference it can go to, as CUSA, the MWC, and the AAC wont take a new FBS team now. WSU doesn't want the Belt or MAC because they don't have good buckets and don't have teams in Texas.
-
You bizons are showing an incredible lack of intelligence regarding the G5. Houston gained access to the Peach Bowl and it multi-million dollar payout as the best G5 team. It beat Florida State in the Peach Bowl 38-24, so Houston was considered the champions of the G5.

The Sam Houston St - UND series announced Friday is interesting to say the least. 2018 is when an FBS transition will begin IMHO. Sam Houston State stadium hold 14,000, but temporary bleachers in one end zone can be installed to make it more than 15 k. SHSU has hosted games in Houston's Reliant Stadium that drew 26 k. Also. Sam Houston and Lamar had flirted with the WAC back in 2011 to go FBS. NMSU and a Wichita State FBS team need a Texas presence. Could Sam Houston St be a part of the future FBS WAC? Lamar too? Missouri St fb could leave the MVFC and join the WAC for football only, as it wouldn't want Wichita St to get ahead, as those two are basically geographic twins. Those two want FBS as they would move in tandem later to CUSA or the American, but need an FBS invite from someone without ruining their basketball. So perhaps the future FBS WAC will be even bigger than I imagined, with Texas schools for NMSU and Wichita State's benefit. Sam Houston St and Lamar have both been rebuffed by the Sun Belt as FBS teams, but haven't made much noise about FBS in the last couple years. In Texas, a school almost has to be FBS for its football to be taken seriously. Sam Houston St and UND may have just signed a non conference series as the conference schedule doesn't have them playing. Interesting that Bresciani said that he doesn't envision an FBS move now and the NDSU is in the Tier II sweet spot. Personally think FCS is in Tier III, and G5 or soon to be G6 is in Tier II, but I'm just a lowly poster.

When other schools issue revised logos, there is normally many varieties to choose with the logo dispersed along the University's abbreviation, or the logo by itself, or with different major color, or with the state outline etc. A logo used on a helmet or hat generally won't work for a jersey or tshirt, so alternatives of the same logo are made availiable to maximize the sales and revenue potential. NDSU, SDSU, USD, UM, etc all have a number of different logo combinations to put on their uniforms and items for sale. That is a major problem with the logo, as it is the only current choice. The New York firm should know better. It's for all practical purposes fireable offense that UND didn't pursue.

AD's and Presidents always deny and deceive until the day they announce it.

All those schools are fbs. Shows how little you know. Why doesn't the MAC schools move down to fcs, like the mvc did 40 years ago? Used to be the mvc was so superior to the mac. Before the mvc dropped to fcs, it's good schools like Tulsa, Memphis, Cincy and Louisville left, and Wichita St dropped football instead of playing fcs and NMSU left the mvc entirely. The MAC teams get a couple million from P5 games, get a mill from the CFP, and get 800 k from their ESPN contract. But they still pay millions more to get their athletic budget in tack because FBS is worth so much more in free advertising than FCS. The MAC will pass the mvc even in basketball soon because all the mvc has now in terms of bball is UNI and Wichita, and Wichita St is probably gone by 2020 and the mvc will be dirt. The mac has superceded it because of fbs. FBS schools in the low G5 leagues lose less money at football than FCS do. Any FCS school has to look seriously at FBS if they want a national profile. If the fcs profile is satisfied with a Fargo and a Green Acres profile, fcs is the way to go. UND and NDSU should be at a higher or equal level to Ball St, Bowling Green, Miami, Akron, C Mich, E Mich, Troy, Akron, Apps St, Ga Southern, Coastal, La Monroe, Ark St, San Jose St, Nevada, Wyoming etc. Only history prevented that. UND used to play many of those fbs schools in DII days like San Diego St, Old Dominion, Ark St, Troy, La Tech etc, but they moved to DI much earlier when upgrading to FBS was easier. When the next CFP contract is signed, a G5 league could get even more, if eight teams are in the playofffs. This has been discussed here so much but remedial classes are always necessary for bizon trolls.
-
And somehow La-Monroe, Troy, and Ga St have stayed FBS on shoestring budgets. Coastal Carolina cant get their new stadium approved by the SC board. The new WAC will be an academic powerhouse in comparison.
-
Agree that an FSN TV deal would be an overwhelmingly positive development. But a move to FBS would make it even more positive financially. While the Schmaltz decision is big, UND doesn't control it and he has only one more year max anyway. When Schmaltz makes a final decision, UND will issue a press release. Signing Hennessey could be part of an FSN deal. Barry signing longer term is a possibility. Jones signing an extension I hope not. New boards at the Ralph won't make a difference to recruits or fans but probably needed. There is a toilet in the Ralph that should be replaced too. Guess therections will be a press release on that too.

So he is worth being the highest paid "FCS" coach?
-
Petrino will make 393 k plus bonuses, making him the highest paid FCS coach. Thought the Big Sky move was all about saving money for Idaho. Apparently not. Klieman will make 300 k plus bonuses, so the trolls and McFeely should chip in to make him the highest paid again.
-
Our SID said there will be major announcements next week. One will undoubtedly be a logo announcement. What is the other one? Would Schafer object to major announcements the week of a primary election, never mind the Orlando trajedy? Wichita St has not announced anything yet either, and they said they would after conference meetings are over.
-
Idaho just extended Paul Petrino's contract until 2020 at $400 k annually plus bonuses. Most FBS coaches wouldn't stay around if the school was going FCS. Idaho didn't save money on their coaches with the Big Sky move.

Paul Allen, the Seahawks and TrailBlazers owner and a Microsoft multi- billionaire, has some interest in the NHL for Portland, but he says the expansion fee is too steep. Some observers say he would swoop in on the Coyotes and move them if the Coyotes didnt have any hope left in Phoenix. The NHL's thinking is that that Coyotes will get a new arena closer to downtown/Tempa/Mesa and the addition of Vegas will get them a closer rival. Vegas could also attract rivals with the Ducks, Sharks, and Kings as an excuse to make a trip there, as well as many visiting fans from Canada and Denver.

Lamar Hunt Jr, who owns the Chiefs and the MLS team, wants to build up hockey's presence in the KC area first, as he also owns an ECHL team there on the Mo side and is building an arena on thee Kansas side for a USHL. He says a fee of $500 m for an NHL team is way too steep. First an foremost he is a business man.
-
Cleveland' Cavs owner Dan Gilbert said he wanted aN NHL team last night in Cleveland, when the Lake Erie Monsters won the AHL title before nearly 20k in Cleveland. Gilbert also wants an MLS team in Detroit and is worth billions because he owns a big part of Quicken Loans and Rocket Mortgages. Cleveland would be the poorest city with all four major leagues. Gilbert can maybe make it happen, but Milwaukee or Indianapolis would much preferred by the NHL. Quebec City is waiting for the Canadien dollar to go higher. Right now, an expansion team would cost like $700 m Canadian vs $500 mill US. They may be waiting on Carolina or Florida to throw in the towel. Seattle can't even agree on the location of an arena, and it would need an NBA team before the city will chip in on arena costs. If someone builds in suburban Seattle, then it can happen soon. It is thought that the NHL wants 36 teams sometime next decade. Portland, Houston, Austin, a second Toronto team are other cities that get mentioned.

Kolpack is in denial about Wichita St bringing back FBS football. He thinks the Shockers should show up in the Fargodome as a good MVC member. He can't even fathom WSU joining the WAC for FBS, but mentions the MWC should wouldn't take a new program. Wichita St can get anything they want from the MVC, as they bring in most of its money, but they don't want MVFC football, which Kolpack can't wrap his bald head around.
-
The B1G taking BU for all sports won't work, because all sports at BU are a joke except hockey. BU averaged 701 for basketball last year and would need to upgrade to the Boston Garden or some bigger arena. An average attendance of 701 for basketball won't get a school accepted to the MIAC.

A UND lacrosse team is not getting an affiliate spot in the Big East or Big Ten. I only listed close teams that are in lesser leagues and it looks really bare for this area. A women's lax team could get into the MPSF league, which is losing PAC12 teams shortly. Lax is a pipe dream for UND right now, especially if we go FBS.
-
NAIA might soon sponsor lax. U of Great Falls just announced a program and some signees. NAIA has a bunch of men's lax team in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. Some of them offer partials too. DII has some men's lax schools in Colo, Mo, and further east, and they offer partials. Imagine that MIAC DIII schools may start m lax too. Hemline already has a women's team. With college lax play starting in February, it's difficult for most schools in this area to have facilities for it. Suspect Minnesota will be the first DI school to announce M/W lax in UND's area. NDSU will go for women's lax before UND does. Men's lax at DI isn't growing that fast except at schools that don't have football or are already a P5. Women's lax at DI and at every level by contrast is growing fast.
-
Kansas.Com just published an article that Wichita State is waiting on conference meetings to wrap up before they issue their FBS study. The MVC had its meeting last week, so it obviously wasn't them. G5 conference do not normally want a brand new program, so the WAC / Big Sky moveups must be it.

Orlando would be excellent, as every airline flies there. The Amway Center is nice, and the Solar Bears play there so it always has ice set up during hockey season.
