Good point, but Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway owns 15% of Phillips 66, which in turn has a 25% interest in DAPL. That is a very small effective ownership (effectively under 3.5 %). Meanwhile, Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway owns 100% of BNSF, which will have a major hit on revenue and earnings when DAPL goes through. Phillips 66 is mostly the refining and pipeline collection arm of the former Conoco-Phillips. It still makes financial sense for BNSF to fund anti-DAPL forces like $100k in an attempt to stop it as BNSF has a lot to lose. When Keystone didn't go through, BNSF gained considerable traffic, as it can haul the syncrude to the Gulf Coast and haul back diluent, which syncrude needs to go into railcars in order to get it out. Stopping Keystone was a major victory for BNSF, and it is known that Buffett funded many of the Nebraska environmental groups that came out of the woodwork to oppose Keystone and Buffett funded a good portion of Obama's campaigns. There is a California billionaire that wants to stop crude oil production of any kind, so he is likely involved in anti-DAPL, but he also doesn't have much to gain directly.

So many liberal Facebook friends, that don't know anything about North Dakota, are posting lies about how ND is a fascist state etc, and wants to plow up Indian Sacred Burial Grounds. Try to reason with them and post news articles about DAPL facts, but they seem to give themselves bonus points for favoring Native People, without knowing the facts. Some of them are planning to actually come out join the protest and give money and moral support. But they won't bring jobs, which SR desperately needs. IMHO, railroads in ND have always been trying to enforce their monopoly position on the state throughout our history. Railroads had a major impact on state history and politics. The RR's benefitted by keeping ND a RR colony, so ND could not grow and develop or be part of the industrial midwest. History is repeating itself with anti-DAPL. IMHO, although I don't have proof, BNSF and Warren Buffett are the money behind the anti-DAPL forces, as that RR wants to ensure major profit from oil trains. The anti-DAPL forces grew huge in little time, and that has to be coordinated, which takes money and skills, which Standing Rock doesn't have. Standing Rock actually signed off was paid for 200k acres of oil rights to a fracking company, so Standing Rock wasn't against fracked oil when drilling and exploration were hot.

I'll take the win, but the next two weeks may be rough with the way UND has been playing. After the SUU game, it seemed like all cylinders were firing. Against ISU and Weber, it seems our game has become much less diversified, as our running game seems to have been solved.

NAU wins. But they still have a tough road trip to Pocatello and Ogden, before they get UND in Flagstaff. So UND would host the BSC tournament if they are ahead of UNC and NAU?

The Fort Berthold people had agricultural roots and lost much of their valued land, but the Sioux people are more inclined to ranching and the open plains. The Mandan, Arikawa and Hidatsa cultures were much more adversely affected by Pick-Sloan than the Siouxan culture. The Sioux's legitimate gripe is the Black Hills, which this has nothing to do with this. Siouxan people seem to detest growing crops as beneath them. Never seen a garden on a Sioux reservation.

There is groundwater below the lake, so the oil would rise gradually. The rock or soil might partially get saturated with oil first before oIl would be released into the Lake. Read the pipeline under the lake would have double containment (pipe within a pipe with anticorrosion coating applied to both) so the chances of a leak are much smaller than in other locales. The depth and pumping pressure of the pipe and pressure of the rock/soil matrix would also impact how fast any oil could escape. It's complicated to model, compared to pipelines near the surface. There is also microbes that would munch on oil before it even gets to open water. All these factors would slow another oil ingress into the lake.

The new water intake is at Mobridge, which has some oil trains that could be in an accident crossing Lake Oahe. How much sense does it make to kill a much safer pipeline?
-
It could leak into Lake Oahe over time, but oil floats so it would be visible. Many water systems run their water through charcoal or activated carbon, which removes organics. Right now the falling and decaying leaves in the river are a problem. Pipelines are instrumented to show significant leaks. There are major natural oil leaks into some oceans and seas where oil sludge is common at the surface. Environmentalists tried to blame oil tankers and Big ships, but there have been studies have shown oil has been seeping for eons in some spots. The lighter stuff evaporates and much of it is eaten by biolife like bacteria and amoebas eventually, which are natural. The earth is really good at cleaning itself up. Oil is natural BTW. Can't imagine Chicago St still being DI beyond this year. Chi St had 86 total enrolled freshman, closed it's dorm cafeteria, and shut off its hot water to its dorms, so students have to go to the gym to shower, The WAC will be down to seven schools and it has to do something soon. https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2016/10/05/chicago-state-struggles-under-questions-enrollment-finance-leadership

Fort Berthold depends on oil revenue now. They did not bitch about the pipeline crossing the Missouri near Williston. But they are probably too intimidated to speak in favor of the pipeline.

When is Al Sharpton coming?

The protesters know that if any of them get hurt by law enforcement, the media takes their side and they have a big win. Been amazed on Facebook at the comments about how we have to let's the Indians win because they have been treated so unfairly over the years. It's like whatever things the protesters do that's illegal, it's justified by past wrongdoing. That's the opposite of what Martin Luther King taught. But Jesse Jackson hasn't followed King at all, just the almighty dollar.

So apparently according to a tweet by Todd Milewski, UAF and UAA want to get an exemption from DII to lower their sports offerings to 8 rather than the required 10. That could save hockey at both schools and drop skiing. Would think the WCHA would almost rush Simon Fraser and Minot St to DI hockey and create a western division, so the other schools don't have to travel so much.

FBS is more affordable than FCS if you are in a CFP conference. Mo St has more allure than Coastal Carolina, which didnt even have facilities for FBS when it was invited. ARCH Madness has more allure than a trip to the Falls, like breweries and street pubs, plus it's mostly on a weekend. Weekday games are what keep the bizons from Sioux Falls, as who wants to take vacation time in SD in March?. They only need to couple thousand XDSU fans, as the Illinois and Iowa schools will still be there. It's not like they need a Frisco crowd. Think you're the one that's kidding yourself.
-
The MVC would not take two ND or SD schools, one from each state at most. Aligning with schools that have a history of screwing you does not make business sense. NDSU Presidents and fans would love nothing more than giving us the middle finger after we have made a commitment. Going to a league that has FBS powers will checkmate NDSU. That is what UND needs to do. Kentucky screwed over Louisville for years, even though Louisville had higher basketball revenue. When the ACC gave the Cards an invite, their football greatly excelled, leaving the Cats in the dust. UND needs to do something analogous to Louisville.
-
Mo St will only stick around until Wichita St leaves, as they have an open invite to the Sun Belt. Creighton wants WSU in the Big East, but don't see that happening. The American might be interested in WSU. CUSA might take both, as it can soon split in a couple years and would need more western teams. Wichita St badly wants to be in a conference with Texas and Oklahoma schools. Mo St and WSU are not long for the MVC, as even WSU Final Four money will be running out soon. When the MVC loses those two schools, there won't be any pressure to add private schools, except maybe Valpo will get support. Since there are not many FCS schools to choose from in their territory, Murray St is probably the only school that would have support, but their football isn't good. YSU is a basket case academically, WIU is a basket case basketball wise, and USD has not made an impact in men's basketball. UNI will be the new power and they would support the XDSU's. The MVFC must survive for the football schools. Bison and Jack fans will flock to Arch madness, as they will delude thenselves into thinking it's the Big time and there is beer there. Sioux Falls will be pissed about losing SDSU, but SDSU will probably have a Holiday tournament to placate them. Welcome to the new Slummit with UND, Mankato, and SCSU. It's a lower version of the NCC.

Washington Huskies Hockey?
-
The XDSU's have spent ten years sucking up to the MVC that it is no secret where they want to go. When Wichita St and Mo St leave, the XDSU's will put on a full court press to leave the Slummit. Any UND move would to the Slummit would be absolutely short sighted. With the XDSU's gone to greener pastures, we would be stuck in the Slummit with the dregs longer term, begging St Cloud and Mankato to join and pissed off our natural flagships allies in the Montanas and Idaho. A Slummit would be a deadend for us, as there would be no avenue for advancement. Denver and maybe Omaha could advance because of their media audience, but we'do be sitting with a crappy hand. We must continue to align with the Montanas and Idaho in sports other than hockey. USD can join us if they choose, because the XDSU'S are just using them too until they get an MVC upgrade. A conference move must keep in mind the next possible move, and this board has shown its terrible at chess.

Wasn't that for Big 12 wrestling? They don't do anything solely for women. But a BSC pulling in a couple thousand for volleyball should be something they would at least consider.
-
Wouldn't be surprised if Buffett was the money man behind this, with at least three cloaks. He was the money behind the environmentalists in Nebraska that opposed Keystone. Archambeault is probably being paid big bucks to lie and be a royal pain. Buffet will lose billions if this DAPL gets going and he has Obama and Hillary in his pockets.
-
The whole gist of the protest comes down to two things: Property rights of ownership should be abolished. Oil products in any form should be abolished (but let then have their pickups for protesting). It's truly remarkable that some people don't even understand those points.
-
Isn't NDSU volleyball moving to the new BSA for at least big games? If not, NDSU vb must not be seen having potential.
-
The longest title drought is owned by the Arizona Cardinals, which were in Chicago the last time they won. In the AFC, believe it is the Tennessee Titans when they were the Houston Oilers and won the first AFL season. There's a number of teams that haven't won a Super Bowl, and the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles have a worse futility streak than the Vikings even going back to previous NFL merger days.

There are a lot of disbelievers that a Jubilee year will bring out improbable. How about this?. Cleveland Indians VS Chicago Cubs for World Series. One of them is guaranteed to win. The Jubilee Year was over earlier this month, but this baseball season was part of the Jubilee.
-
Bowling Green might be the worst team in the MAC, as Miami beat them today 40-26. Dont think Miami had won an FBS game for a long time. Correction: Miami beat Kent St last week.
