So are the Montanas going to go for a 9 game conference schedule, which means every other year that they only have 4 conference home games? They demand 6 home games, so the other two must be at home. Which means no FBS games. ISU and PSU need two FBS games to make their budget. That means only four home games for them every other year. This 9 conference game setup is a disaster, and everyone knows it. If 12 games were allowed in FCS, it would work, but that's a rare year. It's an excuse to divide the Big Sky up into two. Add Wichita St and UTRGV to the east and each half has seven conference games. Play one across the two leagues and everyone is happy.

Was thinking more like www.easternshorecentre.com near Malbis, AL or Coconut Point Center in Estero, Fl south of Ft Myers. (www.simon.com ). They are limited to two floors with apartments on top, but both have higher end stores like J Jill, Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma, and restaurants and bars etc. They have adjacent office buildings. The St Louis Park development is more like new urbanism, which is common in bigger metros with closer built up suburbs.

President Kennedy Message on Athletics

If it was me making the decision, M/W Tennis and softball would get cut. And not for the reasons above, but because those sports don't have adequate facilities on campus and there is no plans to build them. A new outdoor track is on the books with a soccer field and stands, so soccer at least is in the plans. But if was me, MW swimming would get dumped too, and replace them with M/W lacrosse. Swimming doesn't bring many spectators or athletes, but lax would have a major impact on walk on enrollment. Sorry. Admire what you do and appreciate the effort and dedication. Wish we could afford more sports, but we're not DII anympre.- 2,150 replies

Seems like your desperate for Kelley to come back with his empty platitudes. Loss of a sport is not like the loss of a life or career, as you seem to say. DI sports is a business, and what doesn't pay or help with awareness for the U goes out the window. It's not a nursery school anymore.- 2,150 replies

They are very popular in southern locations. Mostly upscale too. Some have vehicle traffic with limited parking on the inner Avenue. Grand Forks might be borderline for them, mostly because of too few upper middle class. It definitely would be different from an outlet mall. But could be a popular spot for college students to hang out and live. Could make more sense if office space for UAV companies suddenly comes in demand.

President Kennedy Message on Athletics
SiouxVolley replied to fightingsioux4life's topic in Other Sports
If all the Big 12 schools don't have as many sports as UND when it moved to DI, it didn't take a brain surgeon to realize that UND was sponsoring too many sports to be competitive. Any AD worth his salt would have told us that. But Faison or Kelley didn't want to ltell the truth, and one of them had veto power over the other. Give us a Stanford or Ivy League endowment, and you have some credibility.- 2,150 replies

Threatening to cut programs may lead to more donations to save programs, like men's golf experienced. Stay focused.- 2,150 replies

President Kennedy Message on Athletics
SiouxVolley replied to fightingsioux4life's topic in Other Sports
Miller and Schlossman keep writing hit pieces. Been in a lot of corporate slim downs, and it's never pleasant. Apparently they are pretty ignorant that thats the way the world is. No athlete will lose a scholarship, even if their sport gets cut. The coaches will be the ones hurt, but that comes with the territory of DI. Why haven't Schlossman and Miller wrote about the incompetence of the Kelley admin for having 21 sports, with most of them being DII Level? Kelley didn't have the balls to axe them when they should have been, because his overriding concern was his own popularity. Incompetent or corrupt previous administration decisions always lead to unpleasant issues today, but they refuse to put that in context.- 2,150 replies

It will be a convenient excuse for the Montanas to leave for another conference - the WAC. But this post will be mocked so what's the use. The Montanas, Idaho, and E Wash don't want such insular schedules forced on them. BTW, Weber St has a big stadium upgrade coming. Maybe... The BSC President know how to implant fear in their fans eyes. it's a way they can legitimize a breakaway conference and save cost at the same time. Find it pretty incredible and ridiculous that Portland St, N Colo, Idaho St, and NAU would volunteer to trim FBS games, when they often rely on two a year to make budget. Sac St and others won't get so many DII games and Montana will have to give up on a Sister of the Poor FCS program like St Francis or MVSU. Doesn't make any sense unless it's a ruse to break the BSC up.

It's interesting that our resident trolls didn't insist on shutting down a thread on bozoville, where posters were discussing joining with the Montanas and Idaho and NMSU to bring back the WAC FBS. As long as NDSU gets to FBS first, FBS talk is all fine and dandy. But if UND has ideas that it should go FBS, that kind of talk has to be squelched by the trolls. UND should only be allowed to excel in hockey, and all other talk of improving our athletic standing is impermissible according to them.

Lifestyle malls, which don't have a central indoor walkways, are suburban approximations of mini downtowns. They often have upstairs apartments and condos, so there are people living there.

Looks like Wichita St won't announce a football team until next summer, and an FCS team probably won't play until likely two seasons later. It's already too late to recruit players for a full class, so that might be just as well. But Wichita St is mainly interested still in FBS, although they need to play a few years in FCS. UTRGV will face the same time line. http://thesunflower.com/1038/news/delay-of-game/

Every AD at Nebraska, A&M, TCU, Mizzou, WVU, and CU lied though their teeth or honestly didn't know before their moves, as their Prez's either didn't tell them or waited until the last minute. Part of the job of AD is issuing plausible denials, but still be prepared for a move up. If he anything about how conference moves work, Mazzolini should have asked Engstrom not Haslam.
-
Probably Nebraska just trying to get concessions. Rumors are Mizzou isn't too happy either, as they don't get to play in A&M's and Arkansas's division, but that would force Auburn east, and Alabama and Auburn don't want that unless they both go. Iowa St and Kansas St would love Nebraska back, bUT the B1G is just too much money and prestige.
-
So have some balls and guarantee we'll be in the Slummit then, instead of just trolling. The WAC is the first step, as it can gain us FBS status later. It's not brain surgery.
-
A rumor that Nebraska wants back in the Big 12. Could shake thing up. http://larrybrownsports.com/college-football/nebraska-rejoins-big-12/326385

The P5 will continue to through crumbs at the G5 or G6. An FBS will get a much better deal than being FCS.

Fullerton talked openly about FBS then and there were other signs that some Big Sky schools wanted FBS. The Montanas didn't seriously flirt with the WAC in 2011 for no reason. But even they weren't ready yet. How is that Fullerton didn't have a thread excoriating him for his FBS desires, but someone like me does it, all the bizon trolls do? UND is openly talking about dropping Big Sky core sports. That is like spitting in your bosses face week before you even have another job interview. That is simply stupid, but the Big Sky still publicly wants us. Jumping conferences is so political, and dropping sports makes it even more so. Wholesale switching membership among the WAC and BSC is already a done deal, so those rules are thrown out the window.
-
A President wouldn't cut sports unless it knows what it knows what a new conference considers important. Therefore, the cutting can't be a means for Slummit entry, as that would only happen after we moved there. It's a means for FBS affordability, as Kennedy knows what the WAC wants. NMSU, Montana, Montana St, Idaho and E Washington aren't exactly no-name schools around here, who will be joining us. The WAC is a ticket to FBS, which many FCS Presidents are willing to be contortionists for. The WAC ticket to FBS is useless for GCU, Seattle, Bakersfield, and UVU, so they would jump at a chance to swap with the aforementioned schools.
-
As stated numerous times but am not believed, UND will be donated a new on campus stadium remodel that will drastically increase revenue and attendance. Half of FCS teams moving to FBS had major projects to accomplish it. It's not as unheard of as the board seems to think.
-
I've been wrong about the timing, but right about the substance all along. Kennedy wouldn't cut sports or preannouce a conference change if he wanted in the Slummit. The WAC is the only logical next step. A self respecting FCS President will do anything possible.to get to FBS, provided they have funding. That's just the way it is, because FCS doesn't buy much status compared to FBS. Kennedy has already stated he wants UND to be the premiere university of the Northern Plains. FBS will be a huge part of that. This hasn't been planned recently, but even before UND got a Big Sky invite.
-
Interesting that Montana States new AD just sent an email stating that in the next 100 days, MSU will have strategic announcements that will shape MSU's goals for the next five years. To me it's being a full FBS member in the WAC.

The article says 16, 17, and 18 sports are what the athletic department needs to prepare scenarios for.
