  1. We were before. A UT system school with a med school is not that shabby. UVU, a former JC, and even Boise St, another former JC, are not that high on Presidents lists.
  2. Add Wichita St, E Wash, UTRGV and one has the new WAC! (minus NDSU of course).
  3. Bemidji State a few years ago spent $1.6 mill on men's hockey and $1.2 mill on women's. With tuition inflation it is probably more now. But Minot State would start men's hockey first and women's hockey years later. Minot State would have higher traveling costs than Bemidji, but the $3- $4 mill cost given by Hedberg is a fully compliant Title IX cost. Don't know how Mich Tech, N Mich, and Lake Superior St don't have womens DI hockey or other women's DI sports. Maybe they have skiing. But they don't have the Minnesota State Board mandating women's hockey. If Moorhead St had had a Michigan board overseeing them, they would have had hockey.
  4. They tried the Sun Belt, but no interest on the other end. The WAC might be an option as a football affiliate, but Tressel needs to bring dollars to the WAC. Tressel wants FBS but the MAC has repeatedly expressed no interest. They are lucky the Horizon took them when they did, but the Horizon was probably desperate. That said, think Mo St probably has an open offer from the Belt, but there are probably reluctant to leave Wichita State for a weaker bball conference. Right now, the Sun Belt won't take Liberty, Youngstown St, Lamar, Jacksonville St, Sam Houston St, Stephen F Austin, E Kentucky and New Mexico St for various reasons. But Mo St and JMU hold their noses at the Sun Belt. There is a lot of desire among FCS schools to move up, but the opportunities are few.
  5. Where would YSU go? It is known that Tressel wants FBS, but Youngstown's academics are in the basement for DI schools. The CAA wouldn't touch them as much as they value academics. The MVFC seems to be stuck with them, but they probably want them gone too.
  6. The counseling is more for the faculty who compare the election results to 9/11, than students. Looks like Bresciani authorized it. Kennedy apparently didnt.
  7. The Bizon really like to schedule Big Sky teams, except us, so NDSU must find the Sky interesting too.
  8. A club team doesn't bring enough revenue to justify All Seasons being open to Minot State's club. Simple economics. If the fair board still isn't open to a Minot State varsity team, massive criticism will result and the board will relent.
  9. Cberkas just listed 20 odd schools that could go DI in hockey, but you single me out, even though Hedberg has been quoted in several stories about Minot St having an interest in DI. Just so rich in hypocrisy. Need to chew out those story writers too and get an education in finance.
  10. Bemidji St charges up to $45 a ticket. Suppose thats hilarious too in your small mind. Minot St football takes in about $9 per seat, which gives revenue to Minot St a whopping 1600 x 5 games x $9 = $72 k revenue. Which is better for Minot, football with massive scholarship needs, or hockey with more revenue potential?
  11. Jordan Vail and Grace Bettenga seemed to get playing time in non-conference action, but didn't in conference play.
  12. #2 seed SAC St had a lot of trouble with #7 seed E Wash, but won 3-2.
  13. 3000 season tickets × 15 games × $ 30 / seat = $1.35 mill They will have to get money from their Beaver Club, just like the Bizon do. Or charge more in student fees. So Lake Superior St is going to drop hockey because they don't have enough ticket sales to cover the cost of the Program? It would be huge for the city of Minot if Minot St can go DI. All Seasons Arena would have to offer open dates. This isn't club hockey.
  14. Iowa State is afraid that Texas and Oklahoma will leave the Big12 next decade, which will devastate their large TV income. If UT and OU start hockey, ISU will too as a move of support to keep them in the conference.
  15. There are major expenses the first year before a program starts. Minot State just needs to show they can sell season tickets the first few years, as that practically guarantees break even. An endowment should just be for an emergency, not continuous funding. Minot State doesn't have any success in sports where fans actually attend games. Hockey would draw even if they don't win.
  16. As the article says, the merger needs to happen but right now it won't as the different schools don't have trust with the other side. Never did I say a combined school was vital to a new WAC.
  17. Like I said, Minot State has not accomplished much for spending millions more.
  18. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/17/sports/hockey/minnesota-colleges-herb-brooks-stcloud.html?_r=0 Article on the sacrifices Herb Brooks took to get the SCSU program going.
  19. The ND SBOE would not impose criteria like Minnesota would. Minot State already said they would have to raise like $6 mill, not $27 mill. Six million is doable. Dakota State is back in the North Star. Neither Mary or Minot St have done anything in the NSIC. They are like another Crookston or SW MN St. Minot St envisions being like another Bemidji St. I expect Ariz St and Simon Fraser to join the WCHA now, as that would create a western division where teams play 12 games against each other. The rest of the WCHA would then only play one series against each of the western Teams, so they limit Alaskan trips to one per season. Ariz St needs to be in an autobid situation for its program. Once Ariz St gets its new rink, they will get an NCHC offer. The WCHA will need to replace ASU, and Minot may be the choice circa 2020.
  20. Very cool that UND is sweeping the awards. Next year could be very special. But then again, this year already is.
  21. If another B1G team starts hockey, the new team probably wouldn't be playing a B1G schedule until the 3rd season. UND is not going to accept an affiliate spot, and then accept a B1G eviction notice couple or even ten seasons later. There would have to be guarantees that the affiliation is permanent. UND would be better off when the NCHC accepts Ariz St and UNLV and maybe more PAC12 teams.
  22. Iowa just had too much height and talent: Iowa 75 UND 60. UND had tied it up in the 3rd qtr, after trailing by 13, but UND went cold and Iowa pulled away.
  23. NDSU paid an absurd amount to Ark St to open their new digs. They didn't have the cash left to schedule more DIs. Women's bball doesn't have a big pot of gold dependent on scheduling so it's much easier to get big name teams to come here, like Iowa.
  24. Surprising that Seales did not play or score much. Really need someone to replace McBuckets threes. Kienan Walter may be that three point shooter, but not yet. It's most the Hooker show it seems. Looking for more balanced scoring.
  25. The UM and UW hockey teams may want us in the B1G, but they don't have a vote. Illinois, Iowa, Northwestern, Purdue, Indiana, OSU etc etc Presidents don't want to besmirk the B1G's Holy Name with a small fry like UND. Minn is already trying to weasel out of the DQ cup so they can schedule more against UND. If Iowa, Nebraska, and Rutgers start hockey, UM hockey willeague be hurting again.
