Big Sky Conference QUADRUMVIRATE 2016-7
SiouxVolley replied to BarnWinterSportsEngelstad's topic in Other Sports
Asked the question on another board, and the best answers received had teams with with the three big conference champions, but not four. In some conferences, baseball out ranks vb, so that is pertinent. Texas 1995-96 in Southwest Conference, which was it's last year Won in FB, wbb, vb, baseball, but not mbb. Mbb is a major miss in my book. Ohio St in 2005-6 and 2006-7 Won three championships each year in fb, mbb, wbb. Also won in men's gymnastics and men's volleyball. But not women's vb or baseball. Utah in the early 70's had some dominating years in the old WAC. Haven't confirmed their championships though. This is truly a blessed time to be a UND fan. We might have set some sort of record in college athletics. -
Loudoun County is a fast growing suburban county of DC and is home to Dulles Airport. George Mason U, the largest public U in the state, has a campus there, but is mainly in nearby Fairfax County.

Keep in mind those aren't true odds, but weighted betting odds based on fan size / enthusiasm and brackets. UND hasn't done well vs PSU so they get inflated some. Only the top five get byes, which hurts MSU.

Not usually a spelling Nazi on message boards, but am with names. Richman.

NDSU has been playing like dogs sheet the last month. That squad got run over by many teams that the bizon beat earlier. Without Dexter, they will be bottom dwellers until they get some legitimate help in the paint. Maybe they can play in the North Star and give Mayville some competition. The wbb teams has fallen so off the radar that bizons don't even discuss them or go to their games anymore. Thats why women's softball and soccer are exalted by the bizons. But Khy Kabbelis twisted his ankle and couldn't hardly walk a day ago, so that is the excuse Richman gave for leaving a buffalo pie on the court.

When a player transfers from one DI school to another, he can go to a JC and then another DI. It doesn't appear to matter where he sat out a year at. Maybe that's incorrect, but does the NCAA now view him as a UND athlete? Since Stewart has sat out a year, he may be free to go again without sitting again.
-
Any talk of Jones getting the Drake job could be bad news for UND if he takes Seales and Stewart with him. Still believe as assistant coach was a key this year, likely former Australian pro coach Davidson. Whoever that was needs to be retained.
-
It was said in jest to mock those bisonville knuckleheads for spouting off how great they are.
-
In fairness to the bizons, mbb, W soccer , and W softball have pulled a trifecta. Wbb is lower attended now than those other women's sports so it doesn't count. VB isn't doing much better, after their raging feminazi assist AD fired their male coach.

UND (13-4, 18-9) vs PSU (7-10, 14-14) 3/4 3 PM
SiouxVolley replied to SWSiouxMN's topic in Men's Basketball
Well we've got the NIT bid wrapped up, but make the dance especially for the seniors! -
NDSU gets pummeled by the #7 seed IUPUI. Nice work Jags. The bizon didn't seem to improve at all over the course of the year. Both bizon teams are done fore the year. Guess it's just UND's year. The Fargo media will have to cover UND basketball now.
-
If the total cost is $189 mill and very little has been raised or set aside, it seems like UND is anticipating some very big donations. Is a new remodeled Memorial in the cards? Would be nice to have an elevated tube walkway stretching between those buildings.

CBS says Wichita St is the only school so far that is getting a serious evaluation from the AAC. Wichita St would probably drop it's football plans if it gets accepted.

UND (13-3, 18-8) vs Sac State (8-8, 11-16) 3/2 7 PM
SiouxVolley replied to SWSiouxMN's topic in Men's Basketball
Obviously it was. The biggest game of the year on the line for a Big Sky championship, and it's blown. -

And thats part of the point too, as UND didnt overwhelm most of its Big Sky opponents. It relied on winning the close ones, and that maybe over now. -

EWU didn't blow their game, even though it was on the road. To go dancing, teams have to win a game or two that was close. UND hasn't done that, as the Sac St game proved. -

The Sac St game was two in a row where UND didnt show significant improvement over their oppenent since the first game. Sac St has improved markedly, but with Seales and good shooting that should have been a win. The Big Sky may just have seven teams that can make the dance. Saw Montana come back from 12 at Weber and still win. Montana seems to improved lately too, although Weber has seemingly fallen off a cliff as they rely on Senglin too much, and his shooting is not up to par. Would have put UND's chances of dancing before the game at about 40%. After this game its like 20%. E Washington is now the favorite to dance. But that's good because I usually don't predict well. -
There are rumors of Wichita St, Dayton, and VCU going to the American to strengthen their basketball. Wichita St is a no brainer - they want to start FBS too - but Dayton and VCU are new to the rumors. The A10 gives much of their NCAA dance money to the schools that actually earned them, as the A10 doesn't divide it evenly. Dayton having a big run a couple years ago would lose some major money to move soon. UCONN is still rumored to be moving to the Big East, which has a major bball contract with Fox, and then UCONN would need to find a home for FB or go Independent in that sport. The Big East could conceivably add just one, but St Louis (really weak right now in BB) and Dayton (Xavier has a major geographic problem with them) have been mentioned in the past. The A10 might stay without backfilling, as it has a number of schools, but the MVC would certainly backfill. AAC looking to upgrade hoops teams If Wichita St leaves the MVC, MVC Presidents would get nervous about a DI basketball split. WSU is almost always a high profile team and no no else fills the bill.
-
Some MVC Presidents are concerned that DI will split in two because of finances, FBS wants to grab more bball money The revenue crisis in college athletics could get worse, as ESPN and cable system may be hurt by todays announcement of YouTube TV, which will be much cheaper but not reward conferences so much. ESPN gets $7 / month from nearly every cable home. ESPN revenue will likely decrease faster now than over the last two years, cause a big decrease in conference TV deals, so the bigger conferences may be forced to grab more big dance money to stay even. YouTube launches it's own stream service

The women's swimming squad shows signs of life. Though they finished 5th out 8 in the WAC, but the top spot is within view based on the pts scored. We had a freshman swimmer of the year too, in Katie Breault. Swimming isn't a bottom feeder like tennis, which is almost designed to be non-competitive with the money inputted.
-
To be passable in women's tennis, foreign players are given schollies at much higher expense. Either cut it all, or go all in. There was a quote a few years ago from Wynn where he stated men's scholies aren't given.
-
Notre Dame and Johns Hopkins have their own deals in their B1G affiliate sports, so imagine UND would be free to market it's home B1G games. Fox Sports North would almost certainly be interested, as some here said was a rumor.

SWSiouxMinn: You should seriously start a blog, like another UND grad had for a couple years. All Big Sky fans raved over his work and they would like yours too. Your writing and insights are great. -
M&W Tennis gets cut, why have sports where scholarships aren't even given? Might as well make curling a non scholarship varsity sport, so beer drinkers have a sport where they can indulge while playing. W hockey is saved, but most games are moved to the Olympic Rink except the Gopher and Badger series. If someone want to donate actual cushioned seats, they can. The REA will have like 6 more weekends to host concerts etc. The rest of the cuts are line budget cuts.

That player was arrested after the game was stopped. It is a clear example of assault.
