  1. UMKC still doesn't have baseball, which the Slummit might just need if a baseball school gets an MVC invite. UMKC avoided adding baseball by going to the WAC, which has baseball teams aplenty.
  2. And my post doesn't agree?
  3. Mens Basketball is it. Wichita St was a power in baseball and women's volleyball too. UNI dropped baseball and the MVC will be short in that sport too. The Horizon, Slummit, and MVC will all be borderline autobids if they lose their baseball autobids. Dallas Baptist doesn't count as it isn't a full DI school, although it is a baseball power. DBU could go to the WAC, which would have stronger programs. If the Slummit loses NDSU, SDSU, W Ill, ORU or Omaha, it would be forced to get No Colo or have UND or USD restart their baseball programs or alternatively sponsor football.
  4. There was a recent Chatanooga newspaper article that said Belmont is talking with the SoCon. The SoCon has numerous private schools and they miss the bball power of Davidson. Belmont wants and needs students that want to be a part of the Country and Christian music industry, as Belmont has deep connections to that Nashville scene. NC, SC, GA, and AL have a lot of those type students. Belmont already has awareness in TN and KY so the OVC doesn't buy much, but needs more eastern recruiting for both athletes and students. Belmont recently left the Horizon for the SoCon in men's soccer, and rebuffed interest from the MVC the last time when the MVC took Loyola. Have no doubt the MVC wants Belmont, but there is no indication of the reverse.
  5. The UNI board is pushing for NDSU and SDSU. The MVC will go east or north to Milwaukee though, where there is TV markets and actual recruiting.
  6. The MVC.has nearly 20 dance credits while the Slummit has one over the minimum of six. Until those expire, nothing happens. Those credits are why Drake can pay $400k to their coach.
  7. ESPN reports that a Shocker move to the AAC will happen soon. Matt Zimmer of the SF Argus Leader says SDSU won't abandon the SF Slummit tournament for the MVC but NDSU might.
  8. Nebraska is where bb coaches go to retire. It's the furthest thing from a stepping stone to greatness. With Northwestern's recent dance win, Nebraska is the only P5 that has never won an NCAA game. Creighton bb is king until that turns. The Drake job is similar to the Huskers bball for futility.
  9. The cost needs to be cut. Never argued that. Revenue can be raised by having extra weekends at the Ralph for other events. Have the women play most games in the Olympic arena or Icon.
  10. How many people know who won softball, swimming, lacrosse, tennis, golf, volleyball, or almost all the women's sports? If one asked Americans who won FCS or men's hockey, 90% wouldnt have a clue.
  11. How do they accomplish that other than alumni giving? They have lower attendance than UND. Must be some major revenue accounting tricks, robbing the men's team of revenue or listing most expenses on their men's team. No college can claim women's hockey makes money if accounting was done by a legitimate business.
  12. That's as logical as saying if UND can abandon the Big Sky, it can drop all the hockies. Drop softball, play WIH in Icon for most games, leaving the Ralph open more weekends for other events. After clearing baseball and softball from the spring calendar, down the road that will open up spots for M&W lax, which we have ideal facilities for.
  13. And Clarkson has done it twice. Wonder what their WIH budget is. Their expensive tuition certainly inflates their total. Clarkson is the best example of why WIH shouldn't be cut. Harvard, BC and BU haven't won a championship with all their lofty academics, but lowly Clarkson can do it twice. Recognize that Clarkson is close to Canada, is a good school academically in business and engineering without low intensity liberal arts majors like Minnie and Wisconsin can offer, and it's team is mostly Ontarioan's, but most of those reasons also can be applied to UND.
  14. Strange how our FBS games switch to the Midwest from the Pac12 just as we're moving from the Big Sky.
  15. Looks like Craig Smith is a finalist for Drake not our Jones. At our level, a very good coach rises fast. Is Mayville a coaching bastion ? Lute Olson, Jacobson, Tim Miles, Craig Smith http://espn991.com/rumor-mill-south-dakotas-craig-smith-a-finalist-for-drake-job/
  16. http://www.kansas.com/sports/college/wichita-state/article139945788.html Wichita St leaving for the AAC seems more and more likely. The MVC will be very weakened, as Wichita had accounted for 18 NCAA credits over the past five years. UNI and Drake to the Summit might be a reach, but the money in the MVC is going to evaporate. Would expect that Mo St and Illinois St are shopping around for lower FBS conferences.
  17. When he starts filling the Betty and getting corporate accounts to sign on, the job will really be worth a significant raise. Great coaches create even more demand for their product, and that is reflected in revenues.
  18. Even moving most WIH games to ICON could provoke the wrath of the feminists. Best to be prepared.
  19. Wayne St and Niagara have dropped women's hockey. Wayne St dropping WIH was well after they dropped men's. Findlay dropped M&W hockey at the same time.
  20. Both schools athletics were threatened by the recent Alaska revenue crisis, but saved by non-government fundraising. Alaska college hockey seems safe for now. The Anchorage situation is far different from the Fairbanks one. Bball won't ever be a priority as long it remains DII.
  21. If the WCHA can get a western division, that would limit travel for eastern schools to Alaska once a year, the WCHA would be better off. Phoenix is so much cheaper.
  22. It is in UND's and most hockey schools advantage to get more P5's to field a team. More TV awareness and more money and more esteem. That not hard to understand. DU and CC would kill to get Ariz St in, as it conveys a message that DU and CC are big time to casual fans.
  23. Penn St wasn't a hockey school, but now they get sell out raucous crowds. The Pig Ten was silly to invite them in.
  24. UND actually had interest from the Southland for football, as the Southland had lost schools and had invited DII's. Faison talked about that. But the Southland would have been the death of UND fball, as there would be little interest in playing in Texas, LA and Ark constantly. A Slummit Southland combo was far from ideal. Gene Taylor and NDSU'S President led a MVFC effort to block UND from the MVFC because he wanted UND fb financially comatose. Why else was there a refusal to schedule us? It was finally exposed to the SBOHE and taken seriously and why NDSU had to reveal emails recently where Bresciani supported UND to MVFC presidents with carbon copies to the SBoHE, otherwise Bresciani would have been fired. Bresciani valued his job more than he valued UND fb comatose.
  25. One of the points in going West with the Big Sky was to show potential hockey schools out west, like with PAC12 schools, that we would welcome them. That was one reason that UND was so willing to travel out west and very much supported by Hakstol, who called the move critical. If more P5 schools add hockey no matter where, UND wins, especially if they are in our playground. Kennedy changed our playground, which indicates B1G hockey is in our future. Academically, a move to the B1G is a grand slam, even if only in perceptions. The idea that Ariz St wants the WCHA is a complete joke. It's a mostly DII conference with small schools most ASU alumni and students don't have a clue even exist. ASU would be better off staying club than going WCHA. BGSU doesn't want it either, and the travel for them isn't bad. When ASU gets a decent rink and if UNLV starts hockey, they will both be NCHC schools.
