  1. The Big Sky requires one year notice for Olympic Sports for no exit fee, but two years for football. Why we have a three year football notice is a mystery. But consider if the Montanas, Idaho and EWU all decide to join the Summit when east of the Mississippi River schools are gone, and that may happen by next June. Those schools would need two years notice for Football, matching UND's exit date. Kennedy has it all planned out. The IP's and W Illinois never really wanted a part of the Dakotas but it was their only choice and the IP's have always been longing for the Horizon since moving up from DII. A good chance they will all be adios before next June as well as ORU. We will be in a Summit football league in three years and never see the MVFC. The new Summit won't have enough teams for men's soccer or baseball, making football the saving grace for a continued autobid.
  2. When the MVC goes to 12 with Murray St and Milwaukee or UMKC or ORU, IPFW will be gone for sure. IPFW probably wasn't picked first because IUPUI is an easy addition to the OVC. The Horizon move to IUPUI first preserves IPFW for later. The need for the Montanas, Idaho and EWU is becoming more evident by the day. Imagine that ORU, W Ill, IPFW and maybe even Omaha are working the phones trying to get out of the Summit. UND wouldn't move in unless there is a plan.
  3. You love Emerado, and Thompson, and Manvel and Fischer.
  4. Any development of Ray Richards could buy some time for overpasses further south. Ray Richards could really enliven the western city with development and keep sprawl to a minimum. Don't need to be another Fargo in that respect
  5. Tony Paul reported that the school had baseball, and now says it doesn't. The Horizon has six baseball teams now, so one more isn't needed right way. IPFW and RMU could get the nods for the 11th and 12th spots for 2018-19, when both have new arenas. IUPUI has to decide before July 1st, which is the NCAA deadline. Paul is reporting that the Horizon AD'S now have two conference schedules, one with IUPUI. Could mess with our volleyball schedule, as we play IUPUI and Green Bay in what a supposed non conference tournament for them. http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/college/2017/06/22/source-iupui-receives-horizon-league-invitation/103102686/
  6. Now, Tony Paul of the Detroit News says IUPUI is the school with a Horizon invite, not IPFW or GCU. IUPUI is awaiting regent approval.
  7. An Illinois St fan says Murray St will join the Horizon this year and IUPUI and IPFW next. Not sure what Murray St is going to do with their football, presumably play in the OVC this year and MVFC next, so the Horizon will go to 12. That would leave the Summit at 8, and if W Illinois moves to the OVC, the Summit will be down to seven. Need to get EWU, the Montanas and Idaho in soon.
  8. http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/schools/20170617/no-div-i-for-iu-athletes-in-fort-wayne Interesting that when IPFW splits into PU-FW and IU-FW, the IU athletes can not compete for PU-FW per NCAA rules. Guess IU-FW, which will be the former IPFW health sciences college, will have to go to DII or lower.
  9. If IPFW is a goner, someone with baseball needs to be added (No Col) or the future Summit needs to add football to stay alive for mbb autobid.
  10. An unidentified school has been offered a Horizon spot - know in two weeks if it will accept Must have baseball - which eliminates IUPUI, Robert Morris Likely IPFW - chance it is Grand Canyon and SIU-E. The following story is wrong about IPFW splitting in half, as it will be renamed Purdue U-FW (PUFW). There will be an IU-FW, but it will just be a small college of health sciences. Would be surprised if SIU-E left the OVC, as their one champion sport got in the MAC as men's soccer affiliate, and the MAC has power teams like Akron and WVU in that sport. SIU-E has an old barn for mbb, while IPFW will move into a new downtown arena in 2018 or 2019. Illinois' government is near crippled now, so SIU-E spending on exit and entry fees wouldn't go down well. http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/college/2017/06/21/horizon-extends-invitation-unidentified-school/103076944/ As the Slummit Turns. Needs to get rid of IUPUI and W Ill next and then would be the Summit
  11. What is the source? A Utah poster said the same, that Utah would add hockey.
  12. On their board, Morehead State fans said he didn't get eligible this spring and had to take summer classes. Don't know if that's true. Morehead St has a new coach and now has a whole troop of new players, as they lost transfers too.
  13. Can't argue with that, but at least UND needs top 100 wins so it can actually get a better seed in the tournament and avoid a top 10 seeded team like Minnesota. The MVC actually gets at large because UNI and others have powerful programs.
  14. Didn't see the Iowa State at Ames game later. There seem to be plenty of 30-100 rated teams, so wins over them could put UND in a position for an at large. But an almost undefeated season would be necessary. Can see the wisdom on not playing elite squads like Minnesota and UCLA.
  15. Disappointing that the Gophers didn't schedule us. But they somehow scheduled powers such as UTSA, Idaho St, Denver, and A&M Corpus Christi. Looks like UND plays at Ga Tech when they fly back through Atlanta from the Oxford Ole Miss tourney. Also UNLV and NMSU at Las Cruces before they play in the El Paso tournament. UCLA is also in Las Cruces for that tournament but appears they seem to refuse to play us. And at Green Bay for their tournament with Cal Poly and IUPUI. USD is also missing from the schedule. The full schedule seems to be up on UNDsports.
  16. Apparently, even winning four Big Sky titles, for the first time in Big Sky history that the the Big 4 titles have been swept, did not do much for UND as UND finished seventh overall. Have not found a press release, but this was posted on another board. Big Sky Overall men's and women's 1. NAU 8.71 2. Sac St 6.63 3. Weber St 6.33 4. Eastern Washington 6.07 5. Montana State 5.96 6. Montana 5.22 7. North Dakota 5.14 8. Northern Colorado 4.56 9. Southern Utah 4.31 10. Idaho St 4.20 11. Portland St 3.95 Apparently, NAU wins based on m&w cross country, ( they were men's national champs), m&w indoor track, m&w outdoor track, m&w tennis, and women's golf.
  17. A Salt Lake Tribune article says Utah is in early stage talks with the ACC, the Big East, and the Big Ten. The ACC needs another school as then it can have an autobid. The ACC could also do that, because they often schedule at Denver with one trip west. Utah is the best school facility wise to start hockey in the PAC 12. If they add hockey, they will also have to add women's lax. Probably will take over $50 mill endowment, which makes the chances go way down. Men's lax was possible as Utah was underrepresented for men in Title IX. Hockey now would have to add a women's sport too, making it even more expensive.
  18. Utah's board approved men's lax to start in 2019. Apparently, a wealthy Brazilian airline executive gave over $15 million to endow the program. Utah has already been signing kids, mostly from California and Colorado. A later US LAX magazine article says the Southern Conference, the Big Ten, and Big East may offer a spot. Would think USC and Stanford would start men's lax and get the Pac12 to sponsor it.
  19. Utah is adding DI lax if board approves President's recommendation http://www.uslaxmagazine.com/college/men/utah-president-recommends-addition-of-mens-lacrosse-board-votes-friday Utah doesnt currently have a conference to play in. Meanwhile, Dakota lacrosse growth is happening: http://www.kdlt.com/2017/06/11/growth-expected-dakota-premier-lacrosse-league/
  20. Not a resident, but it seems like the Arbor Park protectionists would be happiest if the down town was demolished so it can all be made into pocket parks. The flood created an enormous park, yet they are still not happy. A downtown needs buildings, and some new ones, to even be a functioning downtown. Let's just plow all of Grand Forks over and make a park out of it all.
  21. Loved the Grand Forks Herald link to the Doug Burgum expo'se in Forbes, on being the best entrepreneurial governor, as it answers a lot of questions why there has been so many cuts at UND. Kennedy appears fully on board. Other schools not so much. Burgum is all about making government and education efficient and cheap to make the state more prosperous. The other day heard the US Postal service doesn't even have its routes mapped out except on paper for helping new employees or temporary fill in. Fed Ex and UPS would be bankrupt if they followed. Bakken oil is getting to lower and lower breakeven point due to technology. Burgum is all about efficient customer service for the people and will be demanding apps for taxpayers and others such that regularly need government service. Kennedy will do the same for UND.
  22. It was a smart decision to sell, as that was bad publicity to overcome, even if it improved and exceeded standards. Edit: Crooked Pint is a sister restaurant chain, as it it listed on the Green Mill gift cards as such. Those cards will still be good at Crooked Pint.
  23. Josh Perkins will be a Jr at Gonzaga. Drick and him were close personal friends with a Colorado AAU team, and it's been written about. The move to Wash St seems to be a way they can see each other more and even catch games, as Gonzaga is not that far.
  24. Ashley Dominguez is now listed as a transfer from UND on the UTSA roster. Not sure if that had been reported.
  25. Looks like Seattle will get an NHL expansion team as soon as Key arena is redone, probably by late 2020. http://www.kiro7.com/news/local/local/seattle-mayor-expected-to-announce-decision-on-future-of-keyarena/530748423 Jerry Bruckheimer, the Hollywood producer, wanted the Las Vegas team, but Seattle would be a better market.
