I watched the IUPUI press conference later, and it was interesting how the Chancellor said an often asked question over the years "is how long before IUPUI gets in the Horizon?" IPFW is under even more pressure to make a move now. Much of the talk was about how Indianapolis is the capital of college sports and IUPUI has great venues with Indy to host. There was talk too about the burden of a league like the Summit with teams so far away and that now maybe their fans will have to make the Horizon tournament without spending a weekend in wintry Sioux Falls so far away. Indy used to be practically the center of the Summit and now it is an outpost.
-
That was the newspaper that broke the IUPUI story, has said the Horizon is considering 16, and IUPUI was wanted to host the Horizon League. In the mean time, the bunny board was predicting Horizon and MVC schools moving to the Summit because Sioux Falls delivers a fantastic atmosphere to SDSU. Get off your high bunny.

Jones got a contract extension courtesy of Quinton Hooker. Did the Q at least get a gift basket as an expression of thanks?
-
So Izzo said the Summit cleared it's teams to have four rather than two non-DI mbb schools on their schedule as the IUPUI leaving left most schools short of games. Here is a chance for UND to swoop in and schedule.
-
The Detroit News said IUPUI could now host the Horizon tournament in the Pacers arena, as the swanky new Little Caesars Arena in Detroit could host future B1G tournaments. It also said the Horizon could go to 16 schools.

Read from Douple where they raised it be $0.5 mill more, to $1.5 mill. Guess the $0.5 mill more is due for short term (under a year) notice.
-
Chicago St only has until next year in the WAC. They had a contract for membership which expires next year, which is very unusual. With 86 freshmen students, most of them athletes, millions in debt, and Illinois almost bankrupt and now not paying lottery winners, it's not a good bet. GCU is a full member this year and Cal Baptist is coming aboard. The four most valuable schools in the Summit are: IPFW, W Illinois, Omaha, and ORU. They are most valuable because they have both men's soccer and baseball. If any one leaves, the Summit is in Big trouble. If any two leave, the Summit has to add football schools to save it.
-
Well UND won't be joining a Summit League if it doesn't exist come 2018.
-
NCSU might actually be a candidate, as the Hurricanes play right in their city.

Read back a few pages. Douple was simply tone deaf on issues. He gave an interview to Kolpack and he said Kelley's crew wanted the Sioux nickname to be an issue for conference affiliation. The Herald rushed in to say that Douple was lying and Bresciani wanted his head in the next review. He doesn't understand fake news and politics well enough to be a commissioner.

Mickey Garry and Jeff Kolpack, both of whom already posted their columns.

If non-B1G P5 schools like Pitt and Syracuse get hockey, think Miami and W Mich would leave to associate with them.
-
So you are denying that IPFW, Oral Roberts, and W Illinois are not panic stricken? Where's your Source? Show proof of your inside information. Do you have a video of Douple's daily visit to a Chicago deep dish pizza joint. Maybe if the Summit uses the $1.5 million exit fee from IUPUI to pay the OVC exit fees of SIU-E and EIU, which are in a state that is basically bankrupt. But they may need much more money to pay air travel costs to the Dakotas.

Like that, but we need to preserve the WAC too, as 24/2 gives much less dollars than 24/3. When the WAC and Big Sky complete more DII transitions, some more schools can be added from them. EWU has been working on expanded facilities for years and are so much ahead of PSU.

http://newsok.com/article/5554458 A big regional in OK has been getting big donations for new athletic facilities. They could partner with ORU, but would likely want the Southland for fb.

Remember how the bisonvile and bunny boards were just humming about how much better the Summit was now than the Horizon or MVC. They talked up a storm about how The Summit could poach teams the other way. Where is that talk now? If we offered the entire autobid money to them alone, it might work. On the other hand, been ostracized by them and here in saying the Summit was a powder keg ready to blow. That we should steer clear of it. Just saying it needs outside forces, our existing friends, to stamp out the lit fuse like forest fire fighters from the Bitterroot Range.
-
Douple is probably speed dialing DII's that would help IPFW and W Ill, like Lindenwood, S Indiana, and Bellarmine. Douple has ruled out football, so Grand Valley St and Wayne St are off limits. It's the Slummit until Doofus is gone.

People scoff at the thought of the Horizon going to 14. But even going to 12, IPFW and RMU are the favorites. At 14, going to SIU-E and UMKC would bookend Missouri metros for the Horizon. GCU and NMSU are possible for 14, but long term they would be looking elsewhere. UMKC has always wanted the MVC or Horizon for a step or two up. Going back to the Summit would be a major defeat for its strategy. SIU-E now is in the same conference ( MAC) as Mizzou for its main sport, men's soccer. The Summit simply doesn't have the pizazz to lure SIU-E
-
The deadline for DII moveups is actually June 1st. Same with FBS moveups. Add another year. But the DII to DI transition time was moved to four years instead of five, because the five year transition was too onerous.
-
IPFW, soon to be PUFW, doesn't want to in a flagship conference. The soups schools don't want the Dakotas. When IPFW is such a key member, as they sponsor both key sports, and they are a veritable island now separated from IUPUI, Douple has to understand that getting SIU-E to switch conferences isn't a long term solution.
-
Yote truly gets what's coming. Douple is a total doofus and somebody else will be commissioner of the Great Northern.
-
In individual sports, too many schools only have a few athletes, so it is easy to be very cheap. Two men's team sports is still cheaper in most cases than fielding a football team. Staying DI isn't meant to be easy for cheap schools. Team sports need almost a full roster, making it more difficult to be chintzy. One could get a low scholarship sport like men's volleyball started (max 4 scholarships), but even that has maybe 18 total players.
-
More than four members can't be taken from the Big Sky or else it will be destroyed. The future Summit needs a friendly relationship with them. Don't need a vindictive and nasty fights like the old WAC vs MWC, which was a fight to the death.
