ND High School Hockey 2017-18
SiouxVolley replied to OgieOgilthorpe's topic in Non-collegiate sports
Haven't seen Mayport-Northwood-Hatton-Finley-Hilllsboro on ND school schedules but they are listed twice on Breckenridge-Wahpeton schedule. Maybe they included Norman County West in that co-op so they could be a Minnesota team too like Wahpeton. A schedule with Bagley/Fosston, Kittson County, Morris Area, and Red Lake Falls suits Wahpeton and MayPort better. MnHSHL schedules are shown at http://followthepuck.com, and May-Port has at 10 games. -
Wow, Dooley hit at a .632 pace. Vail hit at a .379 pace. The match was really dominated by our strong middles. UND had a lower hitting % than Idaho after the first set, but had stronger %'s each succeeding set up to over .400 while Idaho's hitting sank throughout the sets. They did not even try fake it when they went to Dooley or Vail because Idaho had no one to match up against them.

UND seems to really enjoy playing again. They were smiling the whole game like there was no pressure. Great win gals. A championship win tomorrow and UND will finish with 30 wins.

Like watching Crandall even more than Hooker. Crandall is just a smooth player that is a joy to watch. The idea of Jal next year may entice Crandall to stay his four years. Buchanan has potential too, but needs more development.

Just go to bozoville, where there is an apparent UNd fan trying to get a rise out of that fan base. Never link there, as that's a cardinal sin. He seemed to have inside information, and am unaware right now how many scholarships we have to give.

The Calgary Flames are demanding a new arena with city dollars. Bettman will use Fertitta and Houston as a possible destination first for holding Calgary hostage so the Flames get their wish. One has to play Bettman's game first to get on an expansion list.

Hampton is holding a press conference tomorrow to announce the it will join the Big South and leaving the MEAC. Big South football will survive for the time being. Hampton has eyes on the CAA so this move is just getting used to a non-HBCU conference. Howard could be a CAA team too, but Howard has much more academic credentials. So if schools are positioning themselves for the CAA, some movement will take place in the CAA.

Nice article on UND's increasing volleyball attendance. Think the upper limit is greater than UNI's, which has to compete with P5 schools. Wichita St is a better model, but we need some postseason victories. http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/4360243-und-volleyballs-success-attracts-impressive-fan-following

Big South football is on life support. Kennesaw St wants to go bigger. Presbyterian College wants to go non-scholarship. The Big South needs to sponsor a non scholarship league and get Stetson, Jacksonville, Davidson and Morehead St fb aboard. Then maybe Upstate takes the plunge, as Upstate isn't a big public school, but fb is so important down here. The A Sun could be an FBS league before this is over, as E Kentucky and Jacksonville St could have a conference to go to. JMU, Delaware, Stony Brook, and Albany could follow and then FCS would be just a shell of its former self.
-
Officially. South Carolina-Upstate moves to the Big South next year. Liberty probably move to the Atlantic Sun. Will be interesting if other FCS schools like E Kentucky, Jacksonville St, JMU, Delaware, Stony Brook and Albany that have wanted FBS move too. The A Sun may just be a future FBS league. Lipscomb would move to the OVC and NJIT to the America East if it happens. Kennesaw St has always intended to be FBS and there is talk North Florida and FGCU also want the option. A Florida presence is critical for recruiting. FCS would take a major hit. http://www.goupstate.com/news/20171115/usc-upstate-moving-to-big-south-conference

There was a message posted on another board that UND may sign two or three other recruits that have offers to go to much higher schools.

EWU beat Stanford 67-61. The Big Sky is getting some signature wins this year. Maybe UND can do it.

USD becomes just the third DI school with women's triathlon after Arizona St and East Tennessee St. There are 17 other NCAA schools that have it.

Denver has won the regular season and tournament each of the past three season and their looking for four. Perhaps the Summit gives the previous champion team hosting rights. Last year Denver hosted too. Here's a link to the hosting announcement. Seems the Summit gives previous conference winners some benefits. http://www.thesummitleague.org/general/2017-18/releases/20170720i0mo1k

Next year, the Big Sky goes to a set host on the volleyball tournament. Northern Colorado will be hosting. In the Summit, the top six teams go to Denver, which won the regular season crown. The Summit seems to play Friday to Sunday in the regular season and postseason. No more Thursday night conference games.

NAU lost to Embry-Riddle Arizona, which is a branch school of Embry-Riddle of Daytona Beach. Losing to Northland College would be our equivalent. Embry-Riddle is an aviation school and is often a competitor of UND's Aerospace College. -

Thought it would be interesting what kind of support TSL schools have for their volleyball. Think now UND has made a name regionally for itself with its attendance and facilities so talent naturally wants to come here if no P5 offer is coming.. Avg attendance Denver ~600 IPFW 472 -doubt they will be in the league Omaha 1524 - inflated due to the Cornhuskers playing at Baxter and bringing most of the 5300 fans and Omaha hosting Kansas St and UNI NDSU 762 ORU 580 SDSU 351 USD 540 WIU <300 UND 1399 If UND can keep attendance at 1000 or higher, better recruits will want to come. Like to see a 2000 average someday.

Not saying it will happen, but 3-0 is possible. Troy may very well be the best team we play on Oahu. Nebraska next week may be in reach. Gonzaga and Creighton are likely wipeouts.

That would be rather cool to have a hospital wing serve as one side of a stadium. A lot of recent FBS stadiums have been built with a dorm paying much of the stadium cost, as the two are intertwined. Would really make parking much more efficient, as weekends the parking isn't as intense.
