We need the next Dale Lennon at DC and instead of implementing a defense designed to stop the veer, he implements a defense designed to win a playoff game.
-
My comment wasn’t a direct response to anyone or anyone’s comments, just an observation at large that we seem to be going through DCs without much changing. That’s the part that needs to get figured out.
-
I mean, doesn't it depend on what and how they implement it? Like some people were saying, scheme doesn't necessarily matter, but you've got to recruit well to whatever scheme you're trying to implement. Blitzing on 3rd and long will work if you get home. But if you don't, that's a lot of open receivers downfield. So maybe don't send that many on the blitz if your defensive athletes aren't better than the offensive athletes.

Thanks. I saw that Sulik name mentioned earlier, but didn't know if that was a wishful thinking kid, local kid, committed kid, etc. Clears things up for me anyway.

Does UND have a QB commitment yet for the 2024 signing class? I'm sure I could look it up somewhere, but if someone knows off the top of their head.
-
How many DCs under Bubba so far? Schmidt, Holinka, Schwenzfeier? Need to get that defense figured out.
-
I'm not opposed to it. A little taller and a little bigger than Tommy. Probably would get about 1/4 of the playing time as his brother, if things go the way we think they should go.
-
No. It will be determined in fall camp. And probably not even announced until game week of Iowa State.
-
With a new QB, so many of our games will blowouts that the backup QB will be playing before the 4th Quarter starts
-
Yeah, he’s come up several times.
-
Hate to say it, but this scenario possibly exists next season. Hope it doesn't, though.
-
The battle between Feeney and Kaminski at fall camp will probably be pretty epic.
-
Now, if we can get some coaches in the transfer portal....
-
Congrats on a record-breaking career at UND, Tommy.
-
Looks like any MAC coordinator would be getting a pay bump to be HC at UND.

After 2021 season. https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/college/und-signs-football-coach-bubba-schweigert-to-two-year-extension-through-2025

I thought there was general consensus that UND’s recruiting has trended upwards recently. Maybe I am not remembering correctly? Or maybe there was but seeing them on campus has proved otherwise?
-
No. Contracted through the end of 2025 season.

He said that he was in the post game radio interview.

I think this would be the best that can be made with current staff members. maybe Freund would hire an outsider and say “fix the defense.” would be nice if it would happen in this offseason before next season costs us another year.
-
I've been an advocate for Bubba to retire. In that scenario, I've been assuming he would be due no buyout of his contract. Does anyone know if that is indeed correct?
-
I definitely don't agree that's what UND nor its staff want. But wanting something (a championship) and being capable of getting it are not the same. Bubba did what he could, now he needs to get out of the way and let a new guy try his hand.
-
Schmidt left UND after 2019 season. Freund was not named Associate Head Coach until earlier this year. I know a lot of people wax nostalgic for Schmidt, but I seem to remember his defenses being a liability as well.
-
I've said it elsewhere, but for a long time, I was proud of UND running a 3-4 defense. Not sure why, exactly, maybe just because it's the defense that took us places in the '90s and '00s (several NDSU wins, an NCAA championship, another NCAA title game). But it sure seems like it's a liability now. Honestly, I don't care what defense we run as long as it's successful. Get someone in there who can design a scheme to stop a modern offense at this level.
