  1. Feel free to make corrections.

  3. No doubt better attendance would help, as it would also increase the % cut of concession sales that UND Football gets. I still think the agreement with the REA is the biggest issue. REA takes 52% of ticket sales, pockets any Ticketmaster fee revenue, and makes UND pay CC fees. REA allocated $0 income to UND the previous two years, as documented in the NDUS annual reports. Then UND still has to pay for it's use of the Alerus. Why else would Kennedy fight so hard to (unsuccessfully) renegotiate the contract with the REA.
  4. After watching the last few games, I'm back on board the Sather fan club. It's impressive how much better the team looks to have gotten as the season has progressed, and I really like his recruit, in Freshman Reid Grant, who looks to be a legit point guard. I didn't think he recruited one, but I was wrong. Going into next year, If we can keep Bruns and Grant, and with Eaglestaff coming in, I think we will be much improved and will be trending in the right direction. I think Eaglestaff will be a glue guy who may help to keep the team together, as well, and his work ethic will rub off. Despite our record, I'm excited to watch the team play. And the teams effort in the Omaha game was impressive, considering the let down vs Denver. I feel like most teams under similar circumstances would have completely fallen apart by now. I really hope Sather stays away from Juco's and transfers moving forward, with exception to maybe one guy a year. With so many schools going after transfers, I think there will be a lot more higher end high school talent that is available to us, which we otherwise may not have gotten, if not for the portal. Given the major contributions that we have seen recently from freshman, it's clear that younger guys can come in to this league and contribute right away.
  5. Awesome. Hope UND is able to give them a nice contract extension when the time comes, after Volleyball goes from worst to first and the Betty is selling out.
  6. Did the press ever request or report any foia emails about this subject?
  7. I was thinking about that the other day. It's too bad the sport died off so much. Was even on espn for a time.. An indoor field in gf would be nice in the winter. Outdoor would be nice as well. Cost is a factor now though. Paint is really expensive. Cost for playing a day is probably similar to a golf outing. I've heard a lot of fields have been closing down over the past decade or so. Business/event outings for paintball still seem to be somewhat popular, but I've heard open play numbers are just bad. High school and college kids would rather play video games or are in demanding sports or working it seems. Maybe it could work with all the college kids we have, perhaps there's enough that would be looking for something to do.
  8. Grant is legit. Can create. This team really needs a legit pg for next year. Great team effort. Danielson is sneaky good at creating turnovers.. wow.
  9. Yeah I found it yesterday after @iluvdebbies first mentioned it. It's in the 2014 990. https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/display_990/806008137/2015_11_PF%2F80-6008137_990PF_201412
  10. He's swaggy now.
  11. I listened from 41 on. Liked it and will check outs some of the other episodes. Your thoughts on the assistants and the other coaches you named was interesting. You follow the program much, or at all, and have you seen any games recently? If you havent taped the new pod, would be curious to know your thoughts on Freund as OC now and the state of the program overall.
  12. Agree with your first statement. As to your second statement, yes, they are nice. What's your point?
  13. Nice straw man. Again, you said locker rooms have no relationship as to why we recruit D2 talent. Never did I say that locker rooms are all that matter. I asked a hypothetical statement about the renovated hockey locker room area, because it obviously DOES matter, and you stated the opposite. Other factors are obviously at play when it comes to recruiting. I shouldn't even acknowledge your soccer statement, but the women's soccer team doesn't even have a stadium and their locker rooms are across a huge parking lot in the basement of a hockey arena.. highly doubt that is one of the best D1 set ups in the Midwest.
  14. Thanks for clarification.
  15. You implied locker rooms have no relationship as to why we recruit D2 talent. As if it's a choice.
  16. Why did hockey waste 3m if locker rooms don't help at all?
  17. Did they fore sure? All I ever saw was that it was "privately funded". Which could mean money came from rea improvement fund, right? Just odd no names were ever mentioned. Never saw mention of anonymous donor.
  18. Seems we have a lot to learn. Very well done!
  19. Warning, rant ahead.. Would be amazing for the volleyball program if basketball moved out of the Betty - wouldn't have to compete for practice time there, and they could utilize the basketball space. Could legit turn VB into a top program. I legit think the Hyslop is better in it's current state than the Betty. Probably was bluffing, but I'm pretty sure I remember reading recently that Kennedy threatened to pull basketball out of the Betty when he was trying to renegotiate the lease agreement with KEM. I understand that my Hyslop fantasy will never happen, but I can't get this similarity our of my head... see below pic. Would UND basketball be in a better place if they took the 7 million the Betty cost and put it into the Hyslop instead? I kinda feel like the Betty, built next to the much larger REA, diminishes the basketball program, as it sits almost literally in the shadow of the hockey program, and UND, as we have seen, lost a lot of the control it had over the direction of the basketball program when it was moved there, as the usage agreement limits what UND can control when it comes to revenue/investment, facility operations, and marketing (floor design drama). That said, I DO like the Betty, but the Hyslop with some chair back seating would be much easier to recruit to, IMO. The Betty would also look and feel a hell of a lot better with larger risers at one or both of the ends, IMO.
  20. The Ralph has about 4+ million in it's capital improvements account. With a recently updated players area and a new scoreboard, it would be nice to see that money go towards a practice facility on the north side of the Betty, which would help. It's in the Athletics Master plan at least, but there wasn't any mention of a new scoreboard being needed in the Ralph, so who knows what the next project is. Highly doubt that money goes towards anything football related, so if it isn't hockey, the Betty would make sense. How do the locker rooms and athlete facilities in the Betty compare to other Summit schools?
  21. You make it sound like it's easy to pick a up and coming coach. For example, Sather fits that description pretty well, but how is that going so far? Would DeBoer be where he is today if he got the UND job? Is it certain he actually would have done better than Bubba? His non UND success doesn't mean that he would be successful here. Maybe he was riding the coat tales of head coaches? Maybe Bubba would have done better if he had the budget to hire a better OC than Rudoph.
  22. Easy to say in hindsight. Tons of young talented coaches who move up to D1 programs fail, and it's not always the coaches fault when it happens either. It's just not that easy... would he have the same career trajectory if he came here?
  23. Let's see whether or not he brings in a ball handling point guard who can dribble. This eaglestaff kid sounds promising but I don't know what position he plays. There's a good chance Sather has 4 freshman of the year in a row though. The first two left. Seems like the guy is a good coach but I want to see some legit D1 athleticism come in. Given how unathletic this team is, they do decently well as a team despite losing every game, considering how bad everyone is at shooting also. I think overall you have a legit gripe about recruiting. I'd say give him another year as he was kinda screwed with so many guys leaving as he came in and he had to find replacements during covid. Gotta be at least 500 in conf next year. I'd still rather have Sather over Jones.
  24. When you are actively seeking employees, better pay attracts better employees(applicants). Paying an employee more as he becomes more attractive to other programs is also important if you want to retain talent. Overpaying or giving non sensical raises to below average employees does not make them better. In summary, higher salaries attract and retain better coaches, and the answer to your question is "both". Better coaches will eventually get higher salaries, but likely at a different school if their current school under pays.
