  1. This isn't a new thing, this is something that has been done since the middle of the 2010-2011 hockey season. Usually its for a women's hockey game or a volleyball game, or the basketball games. This has never been tried for a football game. I am assuming at this point that this is the game they are choosing.
  2. I get what you are saying, I am agreeing with you that it was disappoint on the students end that we didn't show up. I just wanted to point out that it hasn't been like this all year with students showing up. Now the leaving part, I don't really understand why. After the game, the team went down to give hi 5's to the students who stayed, EVERYONE of them said to my face "thanks for coming, we really appreciate this". Not to be the downer but if you think this was bad, wait til SUU. Unless the athletic department makes the football game priority tickets for the hockey game against BU later in the night (which I am assuming they will be doing). PS: You think this was bad. Haloween 2009 when we beat #16 Poly 31-17 and had 6400 people show up and 300 students, not including the band. It can be better, but it could we way worse and lets not talk about the USD game from last year either....
  3. Not to rush to our defense, but this year has been better for student attendence than it has for the past two years. The students came for Mines, which was the biggest reason why they nearly got 9000 for the home opener, its why they did get over 9000 for PSU for Potato. Trust me, as a student of the transition, the crowd at Montana was STILL better than any game except for Poly last year and any game other than SUU two years ago. Its been better this year. However, I cannot defend my fellow students on this one, we dropped the ball on this one. Lets explain what was going on this weekend. a weekend women's hockey series against SCSU... and that was it. Everything else was on the road and the hockey games weren't even on TV. The game was played at the right time to sober up if ya had do and it was over early enough for everyone to still have a night out. I don't care if we were 3-4, ya show up. Simple as that. Don't get that winning excuse fixes all, if the hockey team in the middle of the season was .500, the student section would still be full. BTW: the section in your picture is the section that usually the Band sits in. Unless the other two sections are full, no one really goes into that one. Your point is proven thought.
  4. A very sad situation indeed. I can't imagine what that family is going through right now. Always pains me to hear about people my age losing their lives. They die too young
  5. Was a good weekend for the women, they got the sweep of St. Cloud and now are tied for first place with the Gophers. Should be a fun series next weekend when they come to town. What happened to Jensen? She wasn't in the lineup this weekend.
  6. I was wondering if someone could answer this question for me How do they decide who gets to host the Final Faceoff for the women?
  7. Irritated.. but not shocked by the lack of students showing
  8. Not quite http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=cr-robinson_north_carolina_sanctions_031212
  9. Hey now, my Dukies are 6-2 and are going to a bowl . Thinking ACC championship baby! But seriously, wasnt the greatest idea for the Gophs to cancel that series. UNC is going to be down for a few years once the sanctions really kick in.
  10. Wow... just wow, that was a fun game. That will go down as the best game, entertainment wise, I have ever seen at the Alerus. I felt like I was in an arcade with all the passing yardage that was throw. I don't care that Montana came in 3-4 and this wasn't the Griz teams of old, that was a significant win not only for this year, but for the program. We still have a good chance of a winning season and finishing with a .500 record in the Big Sky. Hardin and Hanson's assult on the record books was something to see. The crazy thing was those numbers could have been bigger. Harden could have shattered a FCS record and Hanson could have thrown it for 700 yards!Wherever the world Blair Townsend came from was awesome. He had himself a great game as well and it was well needed. Jackson did his thing and had another 100+ yard game. Felt the O-line did fine, they have gotten better as time as gone on. Need to figure out how to get the run game going. I didn't understand why we kept running up the middle, we were getting to the outside a couple of times with Miller. Defense still game up a TON of yards, but I am not as frustrated as I have been in the past few weeks. They still gave up big plays but they seem to have a better tacking performance then they have been in recent weeks. Nice to get 3 sacks, as we seem to finally getting some better pressure. Don't get me wrong, they need to stop giving up 500+ week after week, but im not as upset. Jer should be very lucky, seriously. If that call is not made, he would be getting shredded right now. Can we please get someone on punt return that can ACTUALLY CATCH THE BALL!?! Very disappointed in my fellow student for A) not showing B) their 3rd quarter abilities to turn in from a UND home game to a Griz home game (not kidding, it was THAT bad) and C) Leaving early. The 4th quarter was more fun because those who were left made some noise. Still upset that the band ruined my Bon Jovi moment....
  11. Off to the Alerus... all decked in black
  12. Small background story, I remember playing their school, Mankato West, in basketball my senior year when Nelson was a freshman and still playing basketball. I remember hearing the Scarlet fans who traveled saying that while their QB now was good, they were looking forward to watch Nelson play. I thought to myself when I saw him the first time, really? him? Gopher fans will enjoy this kid, he is the real deal and the perfect QB to run Kills offense
  13. Off to a good start for the weekend, they sweep Montana 25-17, 25-16, 25-23.
  14. UND sends the Griz home unhappy and finishes whatever slim playoff hopes they have UND 44 Mont 34
  15. A significant road trip for the girls this weekend as they head west to play the Montana schools. They sit 5-5 in conference and tied for 5th in conference with Montana State. A road sweep of both the Griz and the Bobcats would help move up a spot in the conference standing and put a little distance between them and whoever is in 7th place. They haven't gotten a weekend sweep yet, but I think with the way they have been playing recently and starting to put it together, this finally might be the weekend it happens.
  16. These blackout shirts are pretty cool. The football car was out on campus handing them out to students for free when they showed their ticket. Once the weather started to turn to crud they camped out at differenet spots on campus til stopping.
  17. Total Attendance compared to last 3 transition years through 4 games 2012: 37,330 2011: 33,366 2010: 34,138 2009: 35,443 Averages through 4 2012: 9333 2011: 8342 2010: 8535 2009: 8861
  18. Practice has gotten started http://undathletics.areavoices.com/2012/10/16/und-hoops-teams-open-practice/ Hoping that Nash is cleared, hearing that he is another athletic beast just like Huff gets me more excited for this year
  19. Thoughts on this move: "Checking out practice at Memorial Stadium on great fall day. UND swapped WR Tyhre Ivery to DB. Might see him on the field later this year." Football by tommillergf on Oct 16, 2012 06:38:18 PM
  20. Although we cannot make the playoffs anymore, it would give me great pride to at least be the team that knocked Montana out of the playoffs. The boys need to keep playing and not quit and start building for next year. Got my ticket and I can't wait til Saturday
  21. Um... no thanks. Petrino would abandon us in 1 year because once he showed a major program that he had no more issues and he would be gone. An FBS team would be desperate enough to hire him away if he showed that. I don't want his baggage and his circus around. The man can coach yes, but his off-the-field stuff throws too many red flags. He burned Louisville, he burned the Atlanta Falcons, and he burned Arkansas. UND should not be associated with this man. I don't think they regret firing him (It was the right call, you cannot do what he did and keep your job, the amount of backlash and media scrutany would have been frustrated for the team and the coaching staff if he kept his job) as much as they much regret hiring John L. (Loser) Smith to replace him. IMO he should have just stayed at Weber and built that program instead of going into that pressure cooker of expectations that was Arkansas. Yes injuries have not helped, but they were thinking national title. That was a no win situation for him, and he will be given most if not all the blame (fair or not) for this year. As for Muss, I might be in the minority in this but I feel he should get another year or 2. I want to see him coach some of the talent that has been redshirted for this and last year play before I made a full decision. Next year we get 7 home games, and the expectations should be risen after this year of making a run to the top half of the Big Sky and playoffs. For his staff however, changes need to be made at the end of this year. The DC needs to be gone and some new blood needs to be brought in. If we are going to play the who do I want game if Muss is fired? I would want Duluth's head coach. I know he is the AD there as well, but he is a very good football coach and he turned UMD from a doormat in the NSIC to the top of the mountain. I almost feel however it might have to be a Jerry Kill type move where he might want his entire staff with him.
  22. I am frustrated..... Frustrated that our defense cannot stop anyone (my goodness, my high school team could gash this defense, they just ran for 500 yards on Friday!). Frustrated that we had a 3RD AND 1, Sutton was running good enough to pick that up and you call a deep throw? And after going super aggressive against Cal Poly, Muss goes back to his eh, punt on 4th. Offense didn't frustrate me, but 2 plays did other than the 3rd and 1 call 1. Golliday dropping that pass, which lead to the pick: That pass was on the money, no excuse for even dropping that one. 2. 3rd down play when we were up 31-24 on our own 4: Hanson just missed Miller, if they connected.... he had sooo much open space, he could have taken it to the house. Boom, 38-24, different atmosphere. The Hanson fumble, with my viewing angle in the student section and looking at the highlights, there was no question that he not only lead with his helmet, he did connect with Hanson's helmet. That was a big missed call, I don't want to fault the officials but with all this talk of protecting the QB and the fact that UND has gotten called twice for leading with helmet penalties with less contact. The thing that most frustrates me... despite all of that WE STILL COULD HAVE WON THE GAME!!!!! I will say a few good things: -Nice to see Hardin and Jackson have a really good game. -Hanson was very, very good. Hope he is good to go for Montana -Sutton had a nice few runs as well -Nice drive by Hendrickson at the end. I guess we have to move on, no playoffs... time to play spoiler and end Montana's playoff hopes next week
  23. Well, we arent off too much from our numbers from last year. Through 9 games this year we are averaging 797. Last year we averaged 853, which yes it is lower, but consider those numbers are skewed slightly because of the 2,394 against NDSU and the 1271 against Utah Valley in the tourney. Take those two out and its 690, I like that our attendance is pretty consistent, its been around 700-800 for most games. It might be next year with everyone coming back and more than likely both NDSU and SDSU coming here would push the average attendance past 1000.
  24. Sluggish? That was an understatement. They did not look their best. Hardee was not very happy tonight with the play of the girls. I was about 6 rows from their bench during the second set and after that first game, he was just absolutely livid and lit into his team. Crowd size was good, semi surprised by that.
