Question to anyone who can answer Is the Dakota Marker being put up for grabs or is that not an option? At any rate, it will be an absolute battle between these two. However, I see this going 1 of two ways. SDSU in a close one, or NDSU running them out of the Fargodome.

I have not seen this kid play. The info I got was just looking up a few recruiting websites and some AAU junk. He is from a different part of the state than where I am from (he's from the Metro area and I am not). I think with his LOI we have either 2 or 3 scholarships left to give out. Someone else who has a little bit more knowledge on this that I do will have to shed some light.

darn it Johnboy, I was hoping for some banter before our BBall teams played on the 9th in the dome... oh well

Kinda looking ahead at the class of 2014, but it appears that UND has gotten a verbal commitment from 5'11 S/OH Sydney Griffin from Marshall, MN. Currently the #6 rated Junior in the BreakdownUSA recruiting ranks (which does the preseason books for Minnesota, same place where SiouxVolley got his info). This girl has come a long way since playing varsity as a freshman, and she is only getting better as a player. She is part of a very strong program and a great coach. She is like a swiss army knife of a volleyball player. http://www.marshallindependent.com/page/content.detail/id/537157/Independent-All-Area-first-team-includes-handful-of-MVCA-All-State-honorees.html?nav=5021

The women take care of business with a 5-2 win over Duluth to complete the sweep. Its amazing how much this team has improved with Michelle back in the lineup. Now it appears that Leah will work her way back into the lineup. Things are about to be fun and we are starting to figure things out before we head to a tough stretch to our schedule. We are now tied with OSU for 2nd in the conference with 24 points. Quick stat: Before Michelle K came back 2.2 Goals/Game (5-5) After Michelle K came back 4.75 Goals/Game (4-0)

The NDSU game is 1 week away They are 3-3, their best win is against Harvard, however the last two games haven't been pretty as they got blown out against UAA (A D-II school, Alaska-Anchorage) and barely beat a winless Prairie View A&M team in which they needed to storm back from 17 down to win. They also beat Mayville State for their other win.
-
Wild ending to the game tonight. UND went up 3-1 on an empty netter with :30 left. UMD then scores 2 goals, including one with .2 left to send it to overtime. They started with a penalty, it was killed and Monique bails out UND with a GWG to get 3 big points. Jensen also was on the ice tonight playing, so we are now have all of our big weapons on the ice.
-
UND down 36-26 at the half to South Florida. Glancing at the stats we are actually shooting decent for a change (41.7%) turnovers a little high with 12. Also looked like we were sticking with them until the last 3:00 when they went on a 14-4 run to finish the half
-
Interesting situation tonight as Jensen is dressed and is on the 4th line. I think this weekend will be a bigger test to see how much this team has improve with Michelle K back in the lineup. If we can get a huge sweep of UMD this weekend, it will go a long way to build this teams confidence and get them on a roll for the second half of the year.

future opponent UMKC is on the Big Ten Network as they take on #3 Ohio State at 5:00

after a furious rally that just came up short against Hawaii, UND (1-3) will finish their tough 3 game road trip as they head down I-29 to take on a very talented SDSU squad in the always tough Frost Arena. WHERE TO WATCH THE GAME: Game will be on MIDCO sports in GF and will be on 100.3 FM HISTORY: UND leads the all-time series against the Jackrabbits 104-80. Nagy has a 18-6 record against UND (most of that in the D-II era). These two teams met last year twice. SDSU crushed UND 92-54 at Frost on Dec 10, 2011. Then 5 days later in our barn, UND took down the Jacks 89-70. ABOUT THE SDSU JACKRABBITS (4-2) Don't let the record trick you, this team could easly be 6-0 as they have lost to both Alabama and Hofstra on last second shots. The Jackrabbits are lead by head coach Scott Nagy (18th Season). Before their NCAA touranment apperance last year, Nagy was starting to feel the heat that SDSU was not returning to their former glory at the head of the conference as they watch NDSU beat them to the dance. Also not helping matter was just the absoute success of the women's program was having around the same time. How much the last 2 years have changed opinions. Now he appears to have a team capable of making a cinderella like run in the NCAA tournament this year. This is a very good shooting team and is also a halfway decent rebounding team (not as prolific as Hawaii however). In their last game against a very good SMSU team (that's Southwest Minnesota State for you NoDakers), they struggled to put away the Mustangs as they only won 81-72. While certainly fatigue could have played a factor in this one (they had played their 4th game in a 8 day stretch before playing the Stangs.), they gave up a lot of open looks and the Stangs buried them and actually outscored them in the FG department 68-67 (but was undone at the free throw line (14-23 vs 4-5). They get a little rest, like us, before they play at home. KEY PLAYERS #3 G Nate Woltes 6'4 SR (22.0 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 6.4 APG) Its fun to look back at recruiting rankings after a few years. In the class of 2009 for the state of Minnesota, the state was agog with White and Williams heading to the U. The top 2 in the class according to ESPN. You have to go down a long ways, even Felt and Aaberg of NDSU were ranked higher that Wolters. When the dust settles however, no one will have had a college career like this kid from St. Cloud. This kid has a cult following like no other (has his own t-shirt: Naters gonna Nate GO STATE!). An All-American and a darkhorse for National Player of the Year. This kid is a very good shooter and can fill up the stat sheet like no other. Would not shock me if gets a few triple-doubles this year. His talent alone should help SDSU get to the top of the Summit, but he is going to need help if cinderalla is to exist in Brookings #42 F Jordan Dykstra 6'8 JR (10.7 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 1.2BPG) If you want the biggest reason why SDSU would make a run in the NCAA this year will be the development of this kid. He has been a little incosistent to start the year, he had big games against Alabama and Tenn Tech, but since has stuggled a little bit shooting the ball. He hasn't really gotten all that much to the line and in his small sample size in the first 2 years has been okay, but not great. Also has a little bit more of a foul problem to start the year Need to keep an eye on this kid because he can put the ball in the bucket and can stretch the defenses with his 3 point shooting. This kid has the potential to be a 1st team Summit League Player and if he plays like it on Wednesday with Wolters, they will be very hard to beat. #25 G Chad White 6'6 JR (8.8 PPG, 3.2RPG, 1.3APG) This kid knows his role for the team (a bench/spot starter that can bury the 3). The kid has all the tool of a small town South Dakota guard, someone who can nail the 3 effeciently. Had his best game against SMSU where he was 5/7 from behind the arc, and is starting to get his stroke. We cannot let this kid get any easy looks or he will torch us all night long. KEYS TO THE GAME 1) Keep the crowd out of the game: Frost will be an absolute madhouse, they know how good this team is and how good this team could be. 2) Rebounding: We need to bring our Hawaii game plan to Frost, we need to hold these guys to one and dones and little to any second chances. 3) Guards: You need to be big and hit your shots. Schuler has been consistent and we need this to continue. Anderson needs to have another game like Hawaii shooting wise, and Webb needs to keep getting back to his Sophomore self. Antwi, just keep shooting that rock and don't get discouraged, they will go down, you are much better this year. 4) Forwards: You need to be prepared to play out and work. I want Brekke to keep getting back on track and either Wilmer, Traylor, or Allard to step it up and help out. STAY OUT OF FOUL TROUBLE (NO MORE MOVING SCREENS!!!!) 5) Pick your poison. Wolters or team: What does Jones decide to do, does he throw a box and 1 or triangle and 2 on Wolters and have the teammates beat them, or do they shut down the rest of the team and have Wolters try and beat you? (I would have love to see Huff guard this kid and see if he could shut him down) 6) Free Throws will be huge in this game, you need to knock them down. 3 out of 4 game the free throw percentage has been over 70%, which has been decent and we need this to get this a little better. Try for a 75% or better from the line This will be our hardest game of the 3. If we bring it for 40 minutes like we did the 2nd half of Hawaii we stand a decent chance. If the first half team shows up... that 92-54 score last year will look good compare to what they might put up this time around.

That is the million dollar question I believe. Hooker defintely has the talent to play significant minutes right away next year, but who would he take minutes from? He would fit in the 1/2 role (mainly at point I would believe). Of course when Anderson, Webb, Schuler, and Huff graduate there would be no question he would be starting in 2014 and be a 3 year starter. He is that good. Now if for whatever reason he got a red-shirt, then he would be a 4 year starter. He comes from the same conference as Anderson did (Park Center and Osseo are in the NW Suburban). The recruiting sites say he has a great on-court demeanor and is a prolific slasher in the lane. He looks pretty well built and plays well above his 6' height. It does help that he plays on the same AAU team with the likes as super recruit Tyus Jones (Apple Valley, can pick whatever college he wants) and high volume scorer Anders Broman (Providence Academy, SDSU commit), and has played exceptional. A major coup in not only a great basketball player, but he has a good head on his sholders, just have a look at this interview and article about him. http://www.twelve.tv/news/newsitem.aspx?newsid=318&newsitemid=20190

you appear to be right on the redshirt during his JUCO years http://www.undsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=58566&SPID=6388&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=13500&ATCLID=205719093&Q_SEASON=2012 http://www.texastech.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/nash_jaron00.html

So let me get this straight Nash officially transfer in May, under the old rules Early November: NCAA decided effective immediated to apply the 100 mile radius Tweet from Tom Miller: really hard on the 100 mile radius
-
Forte is at a JUCO college now. There is 1 big difference between those 4 and Nash. Nash has a different situation in which is father is ill, which is why he transferred in the first place, usually the NCAA is very lenient in letting the players play right away. These 4 did not have those circumstances (at least as far as I know when I looked through articles of all the transfers and Nash). That is why a stink is being raised, it has nothing to do with how Billy G acted down in Lubbock.

Truly a huge coup for UND and coach Jones, this class by far needs to hit if we are going to be successful in the future. Now I would like him to land a couple solid big men in this class either through JUCO/transfer or recuits. I also would like to see if we can't find a lights out shooting guard somewhere in the near future as well.

I just read the chat from last night, according to Ryan, the UND MBB SID, he said that Huff will only be out 2-3 weeks and will be back for the all important NDSU basketball game
-
Since I believe he never red-shirted he could get one and still have 2 years to play here, otherwise it would be 1 if the appeal fails #FreeJaron!

Biggest reason why I though Wilmer started was I think with a bigger lineup (and yes foul trouble) they went with Wilmer, I didn't take too much of an issue with him starting. I thought he did a nice job with the minutes that he played. Other notes from the game The Bad: -Stupid basketball plays: We cannot get away with setting so many illegal screens guys, I counted at least 4 of them in the game. Mr. Wilmer, when you see a shot that has no business going in, do not bail him out by blocking the shot, they will ring you up for a goaltend -The Announcers: Can you say Homer? I swear these guys were serious butt kissers. Felt like they gave us no chance, and their halftime comments of "why the heck are these guys not up by 30" really ticked me off. They did have a few nice things to say for us, but felt they were treating Hawaii like they were the second coming of Gonzaga -1st Half: Was a disaster from the start. I thought this was going to be worse that UNI, could buy a bucket, doing stupid things on offense, defense was average, and that 9:00 drought was killing us -Droughts: We need to stop getting these, it killed us against UNI, and really put us in a deep hole to start with. -Traylor: He looked a little overwhelmed out there tonight, and with Brekke and Wilmer playing decent and halfway decent respectively and staying out of foul trouble, he really didn't see the court much. -Officals: Bad on both sides, should have called a foul on the last 3, Anderson was mugged -Last play: I wished Webb recognized that the baseline was not given and pulled out, and tried to not force it to Schuler. In his defense, he should have a foul called on him because he was being pushed out. -Antwi: Just didn't have it tonight, reason why he is on this list. You need to make more than 1 out of 3 from the line when given the chance buddy. The Good: -2nd Half: Gotta give these guys credit for manning up and fighting back, they could have just gave up and let this got out of hand. -Rebounding: If you told me that this undersized team would be dead even with Hawaii on the boards, I would have called you crazy. This was the one of 2 areas, with a few exceptions, they played a solid 40 minutes. -Anderson and Brekke redeption: These guys were starting to get a little heat turned up on them for various reasons and last night they stepped up in a big way. Anderson didn't do much driving with the trees, just stayed out and buried some big time 3 pointers. Went 5/8 from downtown, but was robbed of a 6th when it rattled in and out. Brekke finally stayed out of foul trouble in a real game and responded with a solid 10 points and 7 boards. He make a couple good moves against Joaquin and nail 2 great jump shots. -Schuler: Played very solid once again and continues to be our most consistent player from night to night. You can see he is starting to be a lot more aggressive -Free Throws: Got to the line more, which was surprising, and they had another solid performace (15/20). Anderson and Schuler did their thing, but Wilmer and Brekke stepped up and knocked a few important ones down. Webb was ok as well. Now this was a nice rally, but we need to play a 40 minute game if we are going to beat some of these schools and especially when we get to conference play. We need to build on this performance, because we are going into a hornets nest at Frost. The good news on that: we have 7 days to prep.
