  1. Although I don't use it, I like to dip into twitter from time to time and decided to checked out his twitter page. He had a post saying he was sorry to the people who talk to him since he can't say anything, but in 1 week he won't be able to shut up. He send that last Wednesday.
  2. Despite one of their better efforts on the road, a Chad White contested 3 pointer would steal the game for SDSU. Now after a long road trip, these guys finally get to come home and take on the UMKC Kangaroos on Wednesday at the Betty. Tip off is at 7:05 PM MEDIA FOR THE GAME The game will be on MIDCO Sports here in GF, and it will be also on Big Sky TV for those who want to watch nationally. The game will also be on the radio on 100.3FM. HISTORY History has not been kind to UND in this series as they match up for the 5th time in these schools history. UMKC has a 3-1 lead in the series. Last year down in KC, UND was downed 78-75 to the Roos, as they hit the long ball at will against UND. Brekke was our leading scorer with 20, and Huff backed him up with 15 (althought he will more than likely be out still with his jaw, but it sounds like sometime this week he will get the wires out and he sounds happy that he will get to talk again lol!). UMKC was led by Reggie Chamberland with 20 (graduated) and Trinity Hall chipped in 18. ABOUT THE UMKC KANGAROOS (3-4 1-1 Summit) The Roos are coached by Matt Brown (5th Season). The Roos were picked to be 7th in the Summit Leauge ahead of USD and Omaha. This last weekend they started their Summit League Schedule with a couple of surpise results. On Thursday Night they took down IUPUI (picked 5th in the Summit) 79-65. They shot 53.4% out on the field, and had 7 blockes. Then played halfway decent against Western Illinos (picked 4th) but fell 68-63. What I am trying to say is that they have a couple of nice pieces on a veteran returning squad. They will be better than their 10-21 (4-14) last year, but how much will be determined throughout the Summit League play. If these guys play to their potential, they might have a chance to climb a few spots in the standings. I think they are still a year away from making any serious moves (i.e: top tier of the Summit) STATS COMPARISON UND UMKC PPG: 64.4 63.4 RPG: 34.8 33.1 APG: 11.8 10.6 FG%: .396 .421 3P%: .347 .339 FT%: .735 .664 KEY PLAYERS #44 6-7 F-C Kirk Korver Jr (10.1 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 93.3 FT%, 44.8 3P%) For you guys who actually watch the NBA, this is the youngest brother of NBA sharpshooter Kyle Korver. Like all of his brothers, he is a very good 3 point shooter. Other than the fact of shooting, he doesn't seem to get to the line a lot (although he is 15-16), he doesn't seem to pad the other stats quite well. The last time he played against us though he got 9 rebounds. Would help to try and keep this kid cold if possible #11 6-1 G Estan Tyler So (9.1 PPG, 4.0 APG, 93.8 FT%, 42.9 3P%) Another solid player, but like a lot of young point guards he is still very wild. While he does lead the team in assists, he also leads the teams in turnovers as well. After a solid start to his Sophomore campaign, he has started to struggle in shooting and has turned over the ball at a more consistent rate. He will want to get back on track soon before the heat of the conference play gets going next month. Has all the tools to be one of the better guards UMKC has had in a while. He does love to drive a lot, so he is kinda like a taller Anderson but a streakier shooter. Very lethal from the line so far. #21 6-9 F-C Fred Chatmon Jr (7.6 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 50.0 FG%, 40.7 FT%) A kid that his getting a lot more time this year, and in his first Summit game took advantage with a 20-9 game. However, his next best scoring game is 9 at the beginning of the year. Why is he on here when if his ppg is very inflated. He is quite honestly their best rebounder. While he hasn't gotten a 10+ rebound game yet, he has had couple of 8, 9 rebound games. There is 1 big glaring weakness night now... he is Shaq at the line. We cannot let this guy kill us on the boards like he did against IUPUI, he got 7 Offensive Rebounds... 7!!! he almost outrebounded IUPUI in this department. Box him out. KEYS TO THE GAME 1) Your focus is on UMKC, do NOT think ahead: The guys have done a pretty good job in building some momentum since the 2nd half of the Hawaii game. But this can all end pretty quickly with a lame duck performance against home. Take care of business and then you can think about NDSU. 2)Perimeter D will be very crucial in this game, we cannot let Tyler to drive on us all day and dish out to Korver and the gang. Have to bring out tight D like we did against SDSU and close out on shooters, limit the open looks people 3) Brekke: You are starting to break out a little bit finally after a slow start. This is where you had one of your better games last year and I think you can have your first real big game of the year. If he can get another similar performace (15+ Points, 8+ Rebounds), it will go along way. 4) Free throws: Although we have improved, we need to keep this as a trend not a blip. 5) Guards: Schuler you keep doing your thing, you have been Mr. Consistent so far. I look for Webb to come out on fire and start getting a few more dimes. I feel that Antwi and Anderson will have a solid game as well. Keep hitting your 3's boys! 6) Rebound: Lets kill these guys on the boards, we have had 2 even performances against decent to good rebounding teams. Keep that Chatmon kid from getting any O-Boards.
  3. Was a pretty full barn down in the BSA, but the sound system there is absolutely atrocious. They need to get their new arena up ASAP. Thoughts -We punched NDSU in the mouth right away, and for 38 out of 40 minutes the NDSU crowd sat on their hands. It was the UND fans making the most noise -NDSU did scrap back, but everytime they seemed to make it close we would get a big bucket -Getting Wall back is huge, she played some big minutes but you can tell she was a little out of game speed and was slightly frustrated. That will come in time -We ruled on the boards tonight, but still had a couple of lapses -Outside shooting was very solid when we needed it to be -That was the Nicole Smart I am used to seeing, very solid -Turnovers was still a little high -Williams played very good D tonight, still had a few dumb TOs -Evers played with a lot of good energy -Buck had a very nice breakout performance -The screens on D were killing us, we are somewhat fortunate that NDSU was not making shots, but they also seemed to get it a lot to the hole, which did not make Brew happy Overall, THE best game of the year and they can build off of this performance. You can see how much these girls wanted that win
  4. Could be the spark that we need. Looking forward to heading down and watching the girls, sounds like its going to be fun one!
  5. Next 2 opponents as of right now UMKC 260 NDSU 92
  6. Next 3 out of 4 opponents scores from tonight UMKC beats IUPUI tonight 79-65 . Kind of a surprise to me NDSU crushed UNO tonight to no ones surprise 95-51 TCU takes down SUU 61-52
  7. The best thing about this is that this class will get the chance to prove themselves over the next two years.
  8. Thanks, and nice job last night knocking off Dayton. Solid win for you guys
  9. Final Thoughts: -Wilmer and Archer stepped up last night in the biggest way possible. It sounds like they took Jones message about the bigs playing better seriously. Very impressed so far with Wilmer free throw shooting and who knew Archer could shoot the 3! Can these two build off of this performance and can give us more meaninful minutes the rest of the year? If so, look out! Wilmer, you need to quit bobbling the ball in the post, you can easily average another 2-4 ppg if you can catch them clean. Not all of them are your fault, but you need to get better -Allard: Well, you hit a 3. Struggled mighty due to foul trouble. Need to stay out of trouble -Brekke: focused on a little bit more, ending up with 8 points. So far looks much better from the line. I like that he is taking more 15 footers cause he needs to make more of these to prevent people from sagging on him down low. His near 3 pointer looked good as well, but just rimmed out. Didn't really commit any stupid fouls, but still need to work on staying out of foul trouble as well. At least he is finally scoring, but still looking for his breakout performance. -Antwi: He only took 3 shots, and was in foul trouble as well, but he hit 2 very big shots. That mid range shot he took and stuck shows me how much his confidence has improved, he more than likely airballs that one last year. That last shot that won it for SDSU, you can't play any better D than he did. If you were 6'3, no way that goes in. -Anderson: Whoever had Anderson as the teams leading rebounder please tell me Saturdays powerball numbers. He struggled on his shooting, mainly cause he was trying to drive on the trees again. I know why he is trying to because the kid right now is lights out from the line, but isn't getting the calls right now. A/TO ratio is 2:1 -Schuler: Continues to be consistent for us, which is much needed. Spend a lot of time on his mid-range game. Kinda got a bad roll on his first free throw attempt. Hit a couple of clutch shots in the 2nd half. -Webb: Don't know where to begin here, never seen such a rough start (2 airball, 4 TO). Looked better in the 2nd half, but I feel for the kid of that free throw. Needs to cut down on the TOs, but compared to what he has been, he is starting to turn it around slowly. Team: -Shot the ball efficienly -While the last free throw hurt, we were once again very good from the line (13-16 81.8%), as a team for the season we are at 73.5%, which is tied for 72nd in the nation right now. A lot of guys so far this year have looked good from the line, but have to remember there is still a lot of the season to go, but this is very promising. -Key Stat: SDSU 23-30 UND 13-16 (SDSU +10) -Played a good 34-35 minutes, but you can't start like you did on the road in the Big Sky. -Even on the boards once again -This is a much improved team that will be coming back to Grand Forks, we went from a pathetic performance against UNI, to a near comeback against Hawaii, to a solid performance but lost to a heartbreaker against SDSU. If they keep this performance up, then add Huff and Traylor back into the mix... we are going to cause some headaches
  10. I agree, we should have gotten that one last night. However, the next 4 games will not be as much of a grind as these 3 were. UMKC @NDSU Presentation @SUU With this stretch we can I am expecting to get out of this at least 3-1, and getting to 4-0 will depend on how well we play down in Fargo.
  11. If you would have told me that Wilmer and Archer would step up, play a significant role in this game, and I think both score in the double digits, I would have called you crazy. Another thing I noticed, ZERO illegal screens
  12. To sum up our 3 roads games UNI: Awful: Looks like we are going to be a mess Hawaii: 1st 15 minutes awful, next 25 minutes great. Almost pull off amazing comeback. SDSU: First 3 minutes, sucked... Rest of the game: Amazing. Just painfully couldn't finish the job. A few breaks and we get out of this road trip 2-1. Time to keep the good and move on to next week as they finally come home to play UMKC. Take their frustrations out on them and then NDSU.
  13. From how we looked at UNI to now, this is a very different team. A night and day difference But that just sucks...............
  14. We were really good at the line..... but that was a killer Great D by Antwi, just better O by the taller White
