  1. ALOHA!!!! UND is in the middle of a tough 3 game road swing as they leave cold, cold North Dakota to head out to beautiful Hawaii to take on the Warriors. Game time is 11PM our time and will be on our usual radio station and there appears to be a free video viewing of the game at www.OCSports.tv ABOUT THE HAWAII WARRIORS (3-1) The Warriors are lead by coach Gib Arnold (4th season), who has done a wonderful job in turning a Hawaii program back into respectability, despite not having the greatest facilities in the world to draw the great recuits. Arnold has literally traveled the world and raided the JUCOs to get kids to come to Hawaii. KEY PLAYERS #15 C Vander Joaquim (6'10) SR (17.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 58.3% FT, 59.1% FG) He is the best player on the team, and some people think he has skills to be in the NBA, (no joke). He is still recovering from a knee tear form last year. He finally played his first full game against Illinois last Saturday. He is a very aggressive rebounder and has gone for 20 and 10 the last two games. He has a couple good moves in the post and whenever he gets his position in the paint he is very hard to stop. He is also not afraid to throw it up from 15-18 feet, and can consistenly make the shot. He is also a good defender, always good for a block or two a game. He hasn't shot well from the line however. #34 F Christian Standhardiner JR (16 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 68.2% FT, 45.1% FG) The German is starting his first year at Hawaii after spending 2 years at Nebraska. He is a halfway decent shooter from the line, and really works to put up shots. He loves to crash on the o-boards #21 F Hauns Brereton (6'6) SR (15 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 91.7% FT, 40.9% 3P) This kid has a Big Sky background (played at UNC for the 2009-2010 season), another great marksman from behind the arch, but has struggled to find his touch the last 2 games. However, we need to keep him off the line, as he is 11/12 for the year. Like with the rest of the Hawaiian team he is a solid rebounder. While they have a solid 4 players, the one issue they have right now is that only 7 players currently have significant minutes during the season. There is still a lot of newcomers that have not gotten a lot of minutes. Keys to victory: 1. Limit these guys to 1 possession: Do Not let these guys crash the O-Boards. High school fundamentals: all 5 box out, someone get the ball 2. Get ready to get some rebounds and man-boards: These guys have killed every team on the boards, if we can make the battle of the boards close to even (within 5), that would be a major victory 3. Guards: You will get open looks, BURY THEM. 4. Brekke, Traylor, Allard, Wilmer, Archer: Stay out of foul trouble 5. Get them in foul trouble: Lets see if we can get into their depth a little and overwhelm them with our experience. Joaquim is due to have a game where he sit out a lot due to foul trouble. The sooner we can get him out, the better 6. Don't be afraid to run and gun: these guys do not play the best defense despite all of their height. get these guys in transition and get them running I think we can give these guys a serious run.
  2. The next logical move would be Rutgers would also move to the B1G Ten tomorrow. Watch a potential bolt of UCONN to the ACC in the near future, as by the day the Big East looks less attractive and the ACC will want a 14th full member. Big East might raid a lower conference/independent to replug the losses. (maybe towards BYU). Like what everyone else says, this is purely a TV Market/$$$$ move, because other than Maryland Basketball these two teams don't really bring much to the table Athletic wise. I would also not be shocked if some one made another run at the TX/OK schools again, and would also not be shocked if one of the big conferences expanded to that magical 16 team number.
  3. HOW BOUT NO............. Kid is a real piece of work, we don't need that around here
  4. Some thoughts -Brekke needs to stop making dumb fouls, he always seems to be making 1 or 2 of them every game it seems. -Webb had a lot of struggles with taking care of the ball, he accounted 5 of the 8 UND turnovers. -We have got to find a way to get it inside more and work our offense that way a little more. Lets get our bigs active -For the longest time, we could have put in a few more buckets to make this game interseting, we were down only 12-15 for much of the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half, but too many empty possessions. -Enough of the every man for yourself attitude and play some team ball -We really miss Huff... even when he isn't shooting well he can really dish the ball and rebound and play lock down D. -The Chip Rank 3 pointers, 2 out of those 3 were wide open missed assignment by our D. Schuler played better D on the middle one -Defense needs to play better close out defense on the shooters, whe they got their hands in their faces, they weren't making as many 3's. -We just got worn out, plain and simple. Hard to play with 8 guys consistently rotating and they are throwing line changes at our guys. Yes I understand that we have a very difficult non-conference schedule, but I would like to see our team be competitive for the entire 40 minutes. If we had lost 72-62 with a solid performance I wouldn't be complaining as much. I want to see a better team performance against Hawaii, we are going to need our shooting game to be HOT to have a chance against these guys
  5. Updated Big Sky Tournament 1 PSU BYE 4 UNC 5 UND 3 NAU 6 MONT ST/SAC ST 2 ISU BYE A Montana state win over Montana gets them in, if they lose Sac State gets in
  6. yes. If you counted there is 12 UNC players on defense
  7. Whats wrong with this picture? http://twitter.com/tommillergf/status/270247189010321411/photo/1
  8. I am currently rewatching the game, trying to take it all in to come with my thoughts. Hawaii is not going to be any easier. They lost in OT to Illinois on Friday, blowing a 13 point lead. Their 6'10 Center went for 22 points 11 rebounds, with 2 Three pointers.
  9. How about a running back that can be a big time brusier with some speed Get some depth at D through transfers and recruits Pray that Mollberg is the 2nd coming of Manzel of A&M
  10. I won't be able to give anymore live updates because I have to step away to do business and before hockey starts Quick back to back buckets cuts the lead to 7!
  11. 4 Key stats Field Goal UNI (10-30) UND (10-31) 3 point shots UNI 7/18 UND 4/15 Free Throws UNI 9/9 UND 1/2 Rebounds UNI 23 UND 13
  12. It would sure be nice to have Mr. Huff and Mr. Nash play UNI TV people said Huff broke his Jaw during the KSU game and his jaw was wired shut
  13. Half 36-25 UNI Make a nice little run at the end to at least make it respectable, UNI hasn't hit anymore 3 in the last couple of minutes. Gotta get hot from the field and play better closeout Defense.
  14. Traylor hits a nice 15 footer, now down 11
  15. Other thing I am seeing is that a lot of the shots appear to be missing short and they are getting burned on the corners leaving open 3's that UNI is not missing Gotta close out better. Got back to back buckets to cut into the UNI lead, down to 13.
  16. only one shooting worth anything for us is Antwi, he is looking pretty confident out there.
  17. ugh... UNI hits another 3 our KSU shooting game has clearly shown up today. Cannot hit ANY open shots
  18. Anderson his a much needed 3 Then UNI draws a foul on Wilmer, make both free throws 31-19 UNI 4:50 left
  19. We cannot buy a bucket, just look awful Anderson is just struggling
  20. Schuler nails a much needed 3 then.... UNI hits ANOTHER 3... seriously
  21. this might get out of hand quickly.... 26-13 UNI 8:09 left
  22. Allard draws a charge Brekke gets a nice bucket 19-12 UNI A missed 3 by UNI and then Schuler draws a foul on the drive, makes 1 of 2 19-13 UNI 9:53 to go
  23. No kidding, they are 5-13 from the field. All of their FGs have been 3 pointers.
  24. Webb makes a nice driving layup UNI makes another 3......... TO UND 19-10 UNI Jones is very unhappy
  25. and another 3 by UNI Webb takes a NBA 3? missed badly UNI misses a 3, get the O-Board and draws a foul. Makes both free throws 16-8 UNI 12:14 left
